chapter 17: Delver's guide to kobolds.

The three relaxed on the couch a bit longer with Jack keeping a closer eye on Tezira. He wasn’t a psychologist, but he could tell she was struggling with her place in life. Someone like her didn’t buy a house like this for no reason at all, and it clearly wasn’t being used for work. Her spacing out like that was also not a very good sign either.

He gently patted her head a bit as he tried to think through why she would be acting in such a strange way. He watched her for awhile before Nelva nodded a bit and stood up. “Hey Jack, mind coming with me for a second?” She asked as she slowly stroked his shoulder. He blinked a but in surprise before getting up and following her to the kitchen.

Once they were out of earshot Nelva leaned against a wall and let out a long sigh. “You noticed too?” She asked him as she looked into his eyes.

“Yeah. She seems pretty out of it all of the sudden.”

“Well. I think I know why.” Nelva walked over to him and pressed against his side. “She went from a dragon’s slave to a hero to the leader of a syndicate. I doubt she has ever really had a “normal” period of time in her life.”

Jack paused then put an arm around her before nodding in agreement. “Yeah. I can see how that would cause some issues.” He admitted as he pulled her close getting a small rumble from his girlfriend. “I know you were jealous of her, but mind if we help her out some?”

Nelva went to protest that she had not been jealous, but paused and let out a long sigh knowing full well that she had been caught. “Alright fine. I admit I was gettinga bit jealous of her going right to rubbing against you.” She confessed as she rested her head on his shoulder. “Plus we did just start courting so I am a bit… nervous about things. I haven’t exactly been courted before.” She reminded him.

He put a hand on hers and gave it a small squeeze. He had to admit that this did feel wonderful. “Well honey-“

“Why are you referring to me as a sweet tre- awwww!” She grinned a bit wider.

“-Yes that is why. Well honey, I just realized something about out new friend.”

“What is that?”

“Think about it. You barely had many friends or romantic interests before, right?”

“Riiiight?”

“Well think about what she has had to go through. I bet when she was a slave she was barely allowed friends. Once she was free and famous she probably had people begging to court her from all over due to being a dragon slayer. Now that she is a boss probably nobody is brave enough to even talk to her outside of work stuff.”

Nelva thought for a long time before giving a small nod. “So. What you are saying is that I, the scholar adventurer frog from the swamp, has more social experience than her?”

“Yup.”

He could feel her shudder as his words hit a chord in her. “Alright. I think I am going to give her a pass then. On a few conditions however.”

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

Jack shrugged. “Pass for what? And sure, lay em’ on me.”

“One: I remain your first love in this world.

Two: I get to sleep with you first.”

“You already-ah.” He blushed a bit as she chuckled. “Fair enough. Now, I was thinking we team up and start treating her as just a normal, but slightly strange, kobold. No boss stuff, no dragonslayer stuff, no slave stuff. I think she needs it pretty badly.” Jack explained as he rubbed his lover’s belly a bit getting a small rumble from her.

“Hey hey hey. Not right now.” She ribbited out gently pushing his hand away from her sensitive belly. “And sure. Sounds like a good idea.”

“Alright, lets get back out there.” He then gave her ass a small pinch getting a very shrill ribbit from her. “Oh, and she is hitting on you too.”

“Why did you-wait what?”

She didn’t get a chance to get an answer as they returned to the main room where Tezira was waiting and toying with a coin. Waiting patiently and hoping nothing had gone wrong. When she saw then return she looked between the two and a wide, pure smile grew on her face. “Ah, welcome back!” She squeaked out with a little wiggle.

Nelva looked at Jack, let out a long sigh, then sat right up against Tezira’s left side. The little kobold let out a squeak before she felt Jack sit right up against her right side. She froze with her tail curling up as she tried to process everything that was happening.

“Uhm. Alright. Glad you two are getting comfier with me.” She eeped out as the last of her tough side faded away. Her eyes glancing between the two as they both put their arms around her. “Hey uhm… we just met and all so please lets keep this a little professional?” She squeaked out.

“What are you talking about? We are just three friends relaxing on a couch. Nothing in mind that would be too indecent.” Nelva cooed out before patting her head.

“Yeah, we are just relaxing on the couch with you. Besides, why would we need to be professional?” He asked her with a smug smile. “We are just friends relaxing on a couch after a trip to the library.” He leaned down and scooped up some of the books.

“Lets just relax and read a bit more?” He offered as he sneakily tossed aside one trashy human romance novel that he had accidentally scooped up. He wondered for only a moment who had checked it out before he saw Nelva’s disappointed face. He let out a sigh, leaned down, plucked it up, then handed it to her hoping she wouldn’t get too many expectations or ideas from it.

Nelva let out a happy rumble and Tezira picked her own book before they all settled in and started to read once more. Jack couldn’t help but think it would be nicer with a mutual movie or show, but the ship was outside the city walls and he didn’t bring a tablet with him.

Besides, he wasn’t going to complain about sharing a couch with two women!

He just sat back into the cozy couch and slid into his book about a brave lizardperson trying to romance a dragon. As he went from page to page drinking in the light hearted things about two young boys in love he noticed Tezira’s eyes darting between their laps as her tail tapped her own feet. He reached over and tapped Nelva’s shoulder to let her know he was about to do something.

“You know, if you want to lay down you can.”

He offered the little kobold that just froze solid. She just sat there, staring at her book unable to think about how to respond as her eyes darted around. She took a deep breath then gently laid her head on Nelva’s lap while her legs draped over Jack’s. “Thank you.” She squeaked out as she just laid there awhile, taking in the new sensations unable to pick back up her book as she just absorbed being close to others for once.

No judgement, no risk, no rules, no expectations, or even any need to “repay” them. Just a nice comfy pair of friendly laps to lay on and relax. She just soaked in the warmth and comfort for awhile before she felt Nelva slowly start to rub her head. She froze once more, then let out a small chirp as she gave in to the gentle, calming touch.

In only a few moments she was fast asleep. The other two smiling as they watched the kobold on their laps curl up just a little and twitch as the book she was holding fall uselessly to the ground. The picture of peace at last.
