I still remember that day like it was yesterday. Wailing cars. Crying people. Fallen Skyscrapers. It was the day the world had fallen. The day my world had fallen. I am Dom Maximus. You can call me Dom for short. And this is my story.
It was a Monday evening. The day before I turned eighteen. I remembered that I had taken my sister out to the arcade as an early treat for my birthday. She was really happy although she did feel a bit bad that I had to pay the money for the arcade on the day before my birthday.
We were walking down the streets. It was the same sight I would see every day walking to school, as the arcade was on the way there. I knew these streets like the back of my head. Little did I know how fast it would change.
Suddenly I fell down. I had a weird dream. It was a dream about me being beaten up by my school bullies for having a weak-ass ability. They knew I couldn’t fight back so they kept on kicking me. I was kicked so much till the point all of my muscles were literally swollen. Then I woke up.
I saw my sister sitting on top of me. And suddenly a slap hit my face. “OUCH!” I said. “Who asked you to randomly start sleeping, brother?” she questioned me back. “Sorry I must have been watching too much MeTube yesterday” I replied.
I got up and then continued walking down the streets with my sister hugging me by the hand. My sister was a young girl at the time. If I’m not mistaken she was about 11. Suddenly my vision flickered revealing the city in ruins. I rubbed my eyes and I was seeing the usual streets again.
Suddenly we all heard an explosion. Wailing car alarms. That noise still traumatises me till this day. I was thinking maybe it was something as simple as robbery and indeed it was.
But then more cars started wailing. I was confused. “A Mass Robbery?” I thought to myself. Suddenly from the corner of my vision I saw something black. I turned back to the sound. And there it was. Ankou Apollos. Today he is the most famous dragon to walk the Earth. But at that moment, it was pure terror.
I grabbed my sister’s hand and started running in the opposite direction. The direction which the crowd was running in. Even if we wanted to we wouldn’t have been able to run against the crowd so we went with it. But as it was a crowd, the dragon Ankou followed, but it wasn’t doing much.
Suddenly I noticed a lot of people falling. “Must be the crowd” I thought but then I had a sudden thought. That was what I thought moments before the dragon had appeared. Then the person who was running next to us fell into his own shadow.
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
“WHat THE F-” I was about to say as my sister cut me off. “Brother don’t swear. I know it’s scary. But please don’t”. I couldn’t say no to my sister so we just continued running. Eventually the crowd was stopped by another monster.
Up till the current time I’m writing this, we still don’t know what that monster was. The best I can do is give a description. It was like a boulder which was levitating on two rocks which looked like its limbs. It had a mouth with teeth that looked like crags at the seaside. But the most disturbing part. Its mouth and eyes had a ghostly green glow to them which terrified everyone there.
We had been cornered. It was either die by the dragon or die by the other monster. Suddenly my sister dragged me into a building. It was some kind of clothes shop. The electricity had been cut off so it was really dark inside. But now we couldn’t see our shadow and with enough luck the monsters wouldn’t kill us.
I could see the apartment which we lived in from this shop. “We were this close to getting there. At least then we could have been with our mother” I thought. But as soon as I said that Ankou threw his fist into our apartment. “MOM!!” my sister and I both shouted. But it was lost under the panicked screams of the people outside.
The monsters killed half of the people on the streets and destroyed a lot of buildings killing thousands more. Our mother was included in this fatality list. But just as we were about to lose hope the monsters stopped attacking the buildings and turned past the street they came from and disappeared.
“Is it finally over?” I asked rhetorically. At that point I was so terrified I was stuck on my knees looking at the massacre outside. My sister and I started grieving at the loss of our loved one and so did many people. We went into our apartment but somehow the staircase wasn’t broken on the inside so we went to our room.
We entered the room to our apartment. It was a complete mess. The windows and most of the exterior walls were broken. This enabled us to see the carnage outside. Underneath a piece of fallen rubble was where my mother’s grave lied. Her entire torso was crushed and the blood was dripping out of the broken walls.
I quickly covered my sister's eyes to not make her even more traumatized but I think she already caught a glimpse of it. With that we left our apartment and walked down the stairs out into the crowd of people who had managed to survive.
Somehow, one of the big TV screens on one of the skyscrapers was still intact. And we heard a broadcast. “The incident which all the survivors here witnessed is happening all around the world. Don’t worry however as the government has already begun talks on how to prevent a situation like this from happening again”.
The crowd went into an outburst. “HOW THE HELL IS THE GOVERNMENT GOING TO PROTECT US FROM THOSE THINGS” commented a lot of people. Suddenly a SWAT team arrived at our location. “Everyone here who is alive will be coming with us”.
I would say there were about two hundred or so survivors but the SWAT managed to arrange more than enough vehicles. The 60 or so vehicles managed to carry the 200 people to an area where they could interrogate each one of us and find out what had happened.
The drive was about 30 minutes and they brought us to this massive police station. And when I say massive I mean massive. The Police station was easily as wide as a shopping mall. People were debating on whether or not to follow them but I was too traumatised to fight back.
When we went in we were all given bunks to sleep in. At least I was able to sleep with my sister because we kindly requested the police. But unless you were biologically related with someone you would have been separated.
I laid down on my bunk whilst hugging my sister. “Hey brother, what are we going to do now?” my sister asked. “We’ll have to watch the situation unfold. Only then can we come to a decision” I replied. With my sisters in my arms, we managed to fall asleep.
