Evelyn had gone far ahead of Adrith, she needed to figure out a way through the next tower before he made it over. Of course, they could just blow their way through again, but then the Soul Reaver will just be chasing them up the stairs again as well. She needed to figure out a different way, maybe she could go ahead and make a way through, lead the Soul Reaver away, and then follow after. Evelyn didn’t think it could work, but she knew she was faster than the Soul Reavers and Revenants. All she had to do was get their attention and lead them away.
Evelyn took in a breath as she began to attract multiple monsters’ attention through different magic uses. As she flew, she focused upon her magic as she cast her light spell to summon 3 large orbs of light which made it very easy to see, even in this illuminated place. She flew through countless streets, casting her light about trying to pull out the hiding monsters. Some hid in plain sight, others came bursting from buildings. Unlike before when the shapeshifters would just hide again, they now properly chased her. And they were fast, they could have probably kept up with Adrith, so she was curious why they hadn’t followed before.
She then noticed something as she was doing this, anytime she came across a Revenant, the Revenant would attack her and chase her for a moment before they took notice of the shapeshifters. Once the Revenant took notice of the shapeshifters, they would keep their distance if not entirely leave.
Evelyn was curious about the strange actions the monsters were taking, were they fearful of each other? Evelyn heard of monsters from different places fighting each other, but she never heard of them fighting each other. From what she knew, monsters in this dungeon actively helped each other. The only thought ringing through Evelyn’s head was, ‘What made this area so different?’
It was then Evelyn had a thought, she began to corral the shapeshifters she had gathered and then directly flew to the tower. She knew she would make it there before Adrith would, she had cleared much of his path, and now she needed to test her theory. Once she made it to the tower, she began to collect shapeshifters around the tower and began to corral them towards it. She noticed at first as she moved around the tower the shapeshifters would not come close to it.
However, the more and more she gathered the more they were willing to get closer to the tower. It was not until she gathered maybe over 30 shapeshifters she was ready to enact her plan. She began to fly around the tower in a consistent pattern to force the shapeshifters to stay near it as she then performed a chant.
“Hear me, oh falling star, cleave through the night and turn the night aglow, answer me, bolt”
Evelyn aimed her wand toward the base of the tower and fired a beam of shimmering silver and gold energy which struck with enough force to pulverize the stone. When the dust settled a raging blur of purple sprung forth, followed by such a powerful shrill yet gurgling screech the pressure from the scream could be felt even from Evelyn’s elevated position. Out came another Soul Reaver, its head immediately looked up towards Evelyn as its arm changed and took the form of such a wicked scythe blade-like arm that it looked even better than some weapons she had seen in her life.
Yet it was not the first to attack, from the side the Soul Reaver was struck with multiple matte gray spikes on the opposite side of its blade. It was pierced by multiple large spikes yet it did not flinch as it whirled its body to face the threat.
The tentacles on that side of its body transformed and changed as they turned into thin almost wire-like blades. These wires lashed out and tore into multiple shapeshifters that were to its side. The stone of the tower was turned into slabs and even brought more of the tower wall down. Even with this attack that killed multiple shapeshifters in a single blow, it did not deter the horde of them.

The shapeshifters began to change into different objects, blades, spikes, whips, and clubs, as they all rushed the Soul Reaver with fervor. The battle between the shapeshifters and the Soul Reaver was ferocious as countless amounts of blades were being swung by both the Soul Reaver and the many shapeshifters.
The Soul Reaver transformed its body into countless amounts of blades, all of which extended out and lashed out with such ferocious speed that it became impossible to see any single blade. it was easier to see the glimmering bubble of golden purple light that surrounded the Soul Reaver from the countless attacks. At first, the shapeshifters were unable to get near the Soul Reaver as any that tried was turned into a puddle of goo.
Yet a few seemed to change their body into something similar to what the Soul Reaver was performing, as countless blades sprung from multiple different shapeshifters as they began to perform a similar feat to the Soul Reaver, attacking with such speed it became nearly impossible to see the true fighting that was occurring.
Evelyn noticed then in that moment as the shapeshifters began to clash attacks, some of them became smaller while others became bigger. Eventually one hit another’s attack with such force that it lifted the other. Which prompted the stronger shapeshifter to reel in the smaller one and instantly assimilate it into its body. Making the shapeshifter much larger, more defined, and overall much more powerful.
As the conflict between the Soul Reaver and the shapeshifters escalated, more and more of the shapeshifters began to become assimilated, until they became one giant blob of gray goo which began to overpower the Soul Reaver. The giant shapeshifter began to move towards the Soul Reaver at a rapid pace, with such overwhelming and unrelenting attacks that Evelyn was no longer safe from her height as she was forced to fly even higher.
Yet the Soul Reaver seemed not to be finished as in one final desperate attack, Evelyn saw the Soul Reaver summon its scythe arm and cut at the air. There, a single blade of purple energy ripped forward through all the attacks of the giant shapeshifter and cleaved it in 2.
The giant mass of gray goo collapsed into 2 pieces. The gray slowly darkened as the Soul Reaver began to move towards the two masses as its maw changed into 4 giant tentacles. The moment it had come within arms reach of the masses of gray goo, they moved. The masses lunged forward and surrounded the Soul Reaver.
The giant shapeshifter began to warp and shift, and multiple areas began to puff up, multiple spikes shot out of its body. Yet after some moments the movements finally stopped. The goo settled as it began to look as if it was melting. Evelyn began to let out a sigh but then felt a massive weight placed on her. She looked down as she saw the goo begin to shake, and all she could think of was to run.
So she did.
Evelyn flew on the golden disc with such haste she was praying she would be fast enough to reach Adrith before it was near. Then she heard what sounded like the roar of 100 different inhuman beasts cry out. It was then a memory came back to her mind, the moment of her death.
She was facing one of the most feared monsters in the entire dungeon, the Chimera Dragon. A beast that stood so tall that it would dwarf watch towers. Was so large that it was unable to move through any city without destroying the buildings along the streets. It was covered in flesh that would shape and change and had such strength that it could crush and pulverize metal and stone with simple actions. It had wings which allowed it to fly. Yet the part that mortified Evelyn was its maw. Its giant mouth had countless rows of teeth and multiple sets of jaws that opened and closed. They shifted, they changed, and it had a tongue that could be launched which could have a spike, its mouth, and even become bladed and transform into its own weapons.
Evelyn had flown as fast as she could, yet the moment the Chimera Dragon began to fly, she realized it was as fast as she was. It ripped and roared through the city chasing after her. She had to bee-lined directly for Adrith, she prayed to whatever god would listen that he may have had a plan. The moment she saw him, her heart sank, as she could see, all his armor had been torn apart, many large holes seemed to almost be punched through cleanly as it showed his withering body, and a vile crimson orb that chased him, reached his heart.
