Fateful Encounter

Fateful Encounter

A somewhat muffled yell rang through a metal helmet “Good gods!”. From below Adrith and Evelyn, the group who were fighting the Chimera Dragon saw a large explosion then a high-speed glowing object burst through. Some of them believed that they had witnessed a new creature break through the dungeon.

A few moments into the desperation leaving their bodies and dread filling its place, they saw from the strange flying object a man drop from the object and rush at the Chimera Dragon.

The moment Adrith drew near, the body of the Chimera Dragon changed. Multiple tentacles began to form near the leg Adrith was about to attack. The tentacles launched out and began to lash out at Adrith. He dodged and parried many, as both of his weapons struck and flared. His body moved fast, but he wasn’t fast enough to make it through, as the Chimera Dragon began to form more tentacles.

The group looked on in disbelief as they saw him fighting, they were stopped in that moment, yet were broken from their stunned state with chanting beginning to be performed from above them.

“Hear me, oh morning star, give onto me your warm glow, answer me”

“Hear my request, blast through the darkness and bring about the dawn, answer my wish, Blast!”

The moment the spell hits, it will just dissipate into the body of the Chimera Dragon. They saw a beam of white energy light up the dark and let out an awful shriek they had heard just a moment ago, yet this time it was almost deafening to them. The group watched the spell hit and knew it would do nothing. They had thrown countless attacks at the monster, yet nothing worked.

The energy beam hit the Chimera Dragon and began to explode. The spell made the flesh of the creature concave and bow inward. Yet a moment later the flesh seemed to shift as once the spell ended the flesh returned to normal. The flesh flexed back into place as the group’s astonishment left them.

Their hope was brought up and then dropped as they turned until they heard a loud popping sound. They saw multiple areas across the Chimera Dragon begin to expand and explode. Multiple tentacles Adrith had to fight against began to do the same, as it began giving him small openings to then attack directly at the body of the beast. Adrith flurried countless blows and attacks as the Chimera Dragon began to recover.

Another deep breath came from Adrith as the group watched on in anticipation. They began to see his shirt rip, his pants tear, as they thought they were seeing the man become larger. His attacks were more ferocious, more violent, yet that alone wasn’t enough.

Evelyn began to fly around on her Wishing Star, she was constantly using the Monster Cores they gathered. Save the Revenant cores, she used them without care. Yet every attack she performed seemed to become less and less effective. The Chimera Dragon began to shift and change, more tentacles began to be produced, more limbs, then more heads.

The group watched on, as one of them yelled out, “Hey, what are you guys doing? They’re here to help!”

The others looked toward the one who said that it was a taller man he had a chain shirt with a metal helm, gauntlets, greeves, and padded armor. He lunged into the fray with Adrith as he brought his large axe up and cut into multiple tentacles.

The man threw a smile at Adrith as he continued his attack, “Can’t let you claim our quarry!”

Among the group, they began to look at each other as a younger woman covered from head to toe with grey robes and holding a staff observes the fighting, “It seems to be changing, not like how we’ve seen it before”

The others looked at each other before they decided to follow the man. Each of them took up their arms again and began to fight with the 2 new people. Among the 6, there was the axe-wielding man who stood above Adrith in stature, yet seemed incredibly slow in comparison. There was the cloaked woman who was able to perform magic, she cast many spells using water. There was a bow woman who switched to a spear when she needed it. A swordsman with padded armor. A man who used 2 short blades. And one more covered in armor and who used a large sword.

The group started their fighting roughly, they had not felt each other out and how to work together. Yet as the fighting went on, as more appendages began to form, their strengths came in. For Adrith he began to step back and fight more in line with the other swordsmen. His skills were a surprise to some, for a few of them they seemed surprised he was able to keep up such speedy attacks constantly.

For Evelyn, she rained down attack after attack. She remembered when she watched the Chimera Dragon fight the Soul Reaver and Revenants. As they attack, eventually the beast will be able to change its body to become unaffected by the attacks. It was exactly what happened when the Revenants could no longer use their orbs against it. Evelyn looked towards Adrith for a moment and could tell he knew this would happen too. He was trying to attack it as much as possible before it could adapt to the attacks. Evelyn wasn’t sure if that was the right plan, however, she knew that it needed to die before it did.

It was in this moment of compilation Evelyn heard the most terrible thing. The Chimera Dragon’s heads it grew began to scream. The shrieking and screaming produced by the heads made multiple people begin to stumble. Some of them were so close the the heads that they felt their ears burst. Others were far enough to only be forced into a stumble yet nothing more.

Evelyn tried to yell out to the others, but she was unable to get any of their attention. The screaming of the heads constantly rang out and disoriented many. It was when they finally heard the roaring of the monster stop, that they felt both a sense of relief, yet also dread.

Many of them were recovering and only a few of them heard another terrible shrieking of energy being built as the entire area was lit with a purple glow. Everyone turned as they saw that the Chimera Dragon had formed 2 almost wheel-size orbs of purple energy that aimed to different areas. Only a few could even fully comprehend what was happening, let alone dodge what came next.

2 enormous beams of purple energy fired, one aimed directly toward the group of fighters who had taken to fighting the Chimera Dragon head-on, the other aimed for Evelyn.

Evelyn had prepared for this moment, she was far enough away to make sure she was safe from the possible attack. Yet even as she dodged the head began to try and track her movements as the beam continued to fire.

For the fighters, they did not get so lucky. Adrith knew what was to come, so he prepared to leap back. The moment he realized that multiple of them were not prepared, Adrith looked at each of them, he shifted from his heels to the balls of his feet as he threw himself to the side, as he shoulder checked the person in full armor. The beam passed by as Adrith had barely saved the person in full armor. As the two of them landed, Adrith instantly got to his feet, he picked up the armored warrior like it was nothing and threw the person hard enough to go quite a good ways away Adrith continued to dash and dodge the beam of energy.

Once the beams of energy were exhausted, multiple screams could be heard. Adrith looked around as he saw multiple people were hit by the beams. Some of them had taken some minor injuries from what could be considered a lethal attack. Multiple people had lost hands, and some of their arms, yet for a few others they lost a leg or multiple limbs. However one had it the worst, the large man with the axe had lost his entire upper half. He died instantly as there was nothing.

Multiple of them began to panic, death was terrifying. To die is scary. Adrith knew this well. For the living and for the Awoken. It was a natural fear that marked that a person was still alive, that they were still a person. So even if they were all undead and could come back, the fear of death still haunted them. And now, when truly faced with it, fear struck them.

Adrith grabbed the person in armor with one hand and lifted them up before setting them down, “Come, we have to end this”

The person in the armor nodded their head as they took up their sword and rushed in with Adrith once more. The two began to slash and cut into the flesh of the Chimera Dragon. The Large sword cleaved and cut through the flesh with such ease now, the person aimed and cut into one of its legs and gave themselves a satisfied nod.

Adrith yelled out, “Keep attacking that limb! It’s not dead!”

The person barely just turned when they could see in the corner of their eye multiple spikes launched out to stab them in the head.

“BOLT!”

2 voices yelled out as 2 magic bolts struck the gray limb that began to turn into a blob creature. The moment it was struck it was turned into a puddle of gray goo. The person turned to see both Evelyn and the woman in gray had fired an attack. The woman in gray had lost both her legs, yet was still able to sit on Evelyn’s Wishing Star. The 2 flew off as they continued to cast spells. The woman in gray tried to heal herself yet felt an intense pain run through her to the point of knocking herself out. She cried out in pain, Evelyn began to look and she could instantly tell from the energy within the girl, that she was being corrupted. Evelyn winced in pain as she thought about the man who died to the beam. Yet this was not the time.

Evelyn began to stand on her Wishing Star and pulled out another monster core as she began to aim with her wand, she chanted,

“Hear me, oh morning star, give onto me your warm glow, answer me”

“Hear my request, blast through the darkness and bring about the dawn, answer my wish”

“Hear my plea, let no darkness within the heart or world escape your radiant glow, answer my desire”

“Hear my prayer, give onto the world an incandescent golden glow, answer my dream, Blast!”

In front of Evelyn formed a single golden orb the size of a wagon that shined so bright that it felt as if the sun had risen.
