Damon's Ascension
A Solid Plan 3

A Solid Plan 3

"My point is that the image you create for yourself is crucial. If our Primse Representative will create the image that humans are gullible and easily controlled with a few benefits, everyone will seek to take advantage of us."

"The first generation might still treat it as a lucky chance, but those who'll come next, who have witnessed our treatment from their youth would assume it's the norm, even if history tells them otherwise."

"At that point, it would no longer be treated as 'taking advantage of us', simply the 'golden standard'. A first generation would feel guilty if a human learned the truth and try to restore some of the original value he cheated out from the human."

"A second generation would sneer and feel that the human was asking for too much and overestimating their value. This difference in thought has solely to do with perception and prejudice." Damon paused there to catch his breath.

"I remember we told you that there are two stages to introduce to the IUAS, one public and the other private. We're currently in the midst of the public version, but the private version is where things will get truly messy." Felicia continued.

"As we said, there are three main 'occupations', excavating, Ability hiring and livestreaming. Obviously, after so long, a whole economy spanning the whole universe has come to exist and it even has the support of the IUAS."

"That's right, you might have escaped it on Earth if you're a rich second generation, but you can't avoid it if you want to earn money in the universe. The companies will descend."

"They come in different types with different goals. The easiest one to deal with are those who specialize on livestreaming. As the newest species, others will naturally be curious about us, so there will already be a base level on interest for us. It will be like actual 'reality-TV', allowing others to enjoy your dangers and thrills."

"Then, there are those who will hire you to excavate the specialties of your world's AR clone server. They will then process them or sell them depending on their business model."

"Lastly, there are those who will hire you specifically for your Ability for a wide range of reasons. For example, Xela might be hired to act as a healer for a team, or for her to heal the wounds of someone important. They may hire me to use my Empower Ability to strengthen a team before their expedition or they might hire Damon for his Ability to clone himself, using them to explore dangerous areas 'safely'."

"Out of the three main types, Ability hires are the most profitable and most dangerous. They offer a golden leaf to the non-awakened in that they will pay for their awakening, yet under the condtion that they will pre-sign a contract that would relate to the kind of Ability they awaken later."

"If that human awakens a D-Grade Ability, they will treat him or her like a failure. On the other hand, if they awaken an A-Grade or higher Ability, they will treat it as they have made a huge profit, and that person's quality of treatment might even be good, but it won't change the fact that they would get treated like a higher-tier slave, rather than a worker who gets fully paid for working their ass off."

"We are mainly guarding against them, because if our assumption is true that humanity's special quality is that we all will awaken with at least an A-Grade Ability, then the companies specialiasing in Ability hiring will inevitably swarm us down like locusts, biting and fighting each other for just a single human."

"They will offer the world to each and every human and promise the best treatment."

"But... isn't that a good thing?" Protizen asked with confusion.

Felicia nodded. "It would be perfect if we don't account for the nature of sapient species as well as political factors. In others words, the outcome I'm painting for you is akin to trying to explain communism's ideals without factoring in reality."

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

"And if we do factor in reality?" Ektor asked with a serious expression.

"As Damon said, humans are greedy. Upon hearing that they can get Abilities and wealth, without understanding their true value, the most probably outcome is that they will sell themselves for far less than they're worth. That is just talking about the high class and middle class. The poor of the world would be happy with even a breadcrumb if it meant they could change their situation."

"I don't care about the choices others make, but this one can indirectly affect all of us. If we work hard here to dupe Ambrose so that we can protect the legal freedom of humanity, only for other humans to sell off their own freedom for the first offer of coins, we'd look like complete fools."

"Hm, hm, quite a conundrum." Nicholas Spencley, a finely dressed gentleman with neatly combed spot of blonde hair and well trimmed mustache as well as beard, commented. "Lest I be wrong, I believe the up and down of this spot of trouble is that by settling for less, perception of the little fellows who come later might be that this is the standard."

Damon and Felicia both nodded. "That's the long and short of it."

"What is your suggested solution, dear friends?" Bane McGregor, the gigachad lookalike, asked with a deep voice.

"That one is far simpler. As Damon will do during the duping of Ambrose, his first law as our Prime Representative will be to ban every human from accepting any external employment for a year."

"In this one year, he and I will maneuver the various companies and milk them out of their value to build a specific device, the Intercognitive Broadcasting Device. It's basically a bigger and more perfect version of what Ambrose used to connect to the minds of all humans and inform us of the news."

"Using that, Damon and I will share our knowledge of the galaxy's inner workings to all human, whether infant or aged. That way, every human would know as much as we do and rather than human greed acting as our enemy, it would become our closest friend. As long as a person knows their true value, they will never settle for less, especially since demand for us would never fall."

The others shared a look and finally began to show actual interest on their faces. They were considering the plan from top to bottom and realized that they really had nothing to lose, as they would not be sacrificing anything.

Most of the burden would fall on Felicia and Damon. Sure, Damon would get voted in as their Prime Representative, but what were the chances of them getting it anyway? Not even 1%.

Like Felicia had said, humans were inclined to follow the strongest. Most of them had already considered voting for Damon, Felicia or even Xela since they had been the ones with EX-Grade Abilities. Among those three most tended towards Damon subconsciously because he had the most Abilities of them, which made him appear more fitting to act as their leader.

As such, they were quick to agree. It was just passing a vote. That was their only input. The rest would be handled by these two.

Thinking like this, Henry felt like a weight had been lifted from his shoulder. He easily began to joke again.

"Sheesh, Mr Prime Representative and his wife are truly sharp! Without you. We'd be in quite a spot!"

Damon and Felecia paused when they were called a couple, then shared a strange look. While they did have a good impression of the other for their due diligence, and were both at least somewhat attractive to the other, neither one had actually considered the other as a relationship partner.

The two looked away and did not say anything. However, this ancient tactic had never failed since time immemorial. Even if they didn't say anything, the idea had been planted in their minds, and their relationship would not be the same going forward.

After that, everyone dispersed and things returned to normal. Jose could not keep control over the ship's AI for a long period of time, otherwise Ambrose would notice that something was wrong.

As such they 'broke up', but the ship's AI still 'loved' Jose, so it didn't 'snitch' him out to Ambrose. In other words, the details of their interfacing were voluntarily hidden by the ship's AI.

The pure look of sadness on Jose's face as he left made Damon and Felicia somewhat speechless. Eventually, the duo were the only ones left in the room.

The business only atmosphere they had engaged with each other previously was noW a little different... very, very ambiguous. Damon smiled at Felecia and tried to restore the mood.

"Let's go over the plan one more time. I'll be heading over to visit Ambrose soon anyway."

Felicia gazed at Damon strangely, as if she wanted to say something, but eventually decided against it. However, she nodded her head in the end. "Will you use your Ability?"

"Most likely. Devour and Avatar will not be helpful now, but Probability Manipulation will. If I can gain even the slightest advantage in the coming exchange, it will make all the difference to our success rate." Damon agreed with a smile.

Felicia hesitated. "I can use Empower on you to increase your power before you meet Ambrose."

Damon shook his head. "It won't help. It will only increase my level without affecting my ability. Not to mention, if I power up before meeting him, the likelihood that he'll become alert is higher."

Damon slapped his thighs and stood up. "It's time. Best not to delay this and waste precious time we could use to build a foundation. Wish me luck."
