Chapter 9 – Hello darkness my old friend

As he tossed me down on the seat I hit my finger and was laying there trying to keep from screaming in pain, before setting up.

He just shook his head and closed the door to the car before going up to the driver side.

He stopped but didn't entering there, clearly talking with the larger man.

It was all hitting me now setting there in the car alone, my parents were likely dead from what the skinny man had said.

My seemingly normal life with school and friends......

I paused, I had forgotten my friends in all this, until now that is.

If these people were capturing kids, then hopefully they had survived and I would see them again in the future.

But for now, I wasn't sure exactly what they would want with some kids.

Quickly trying to thank of what to do he spots the port for the card on the middle console between the driver seat and passenger seat.

I plugged in and pushed past the horrible defense of the car but didn't trip anything for now.

I searched until he find the mobile line number for the car and disconnected for now, I couldn't do much with it, but if I wanted to turned the lights off, or lock up the brake or even turn the car off, I would be able to do little stuff with this.

I now sat in the car, head still swimming just a bit as I sat upright from leaning forward to jack into the car, seeing that the two scavs seemed to be nearly done talking.

With the skinny one heading back to his car, while the larger man got on his motor cycle he had pull up in whatever time I had been in the car.

The skinny man finally gets into the car looks back at me and just states for a few seconds.

"Hate to break it to you, but looks like we just about filled the quota already. But we shall see what we want to do with you."

"My head and hand hurt, can I have something for the pain if I am good."

"No, and if you try anything, it will be your last. You are not as needed as I thought you might be, even if you are smarter then the others."

I sat there as the car seemed to file in with 2 other cars. As we made it to the gate, I could see bodies laid out on the ground around it.

The guards had likely not expected people from inside the wall to attack.

We left the community and about 5 minutes down the road the cars split off going in other directions.

It was at this point the car was now entering Night City.

It was night time and the city looked beautiful in that way that the neon and metal the city was made up blended together as we were driving.

I was losing hope on getting away when the car was turning down a small street, looking down the street I saw no one.

I instantly pulled up the mobile line number in the command line in my eyes, deciding what to do with it.

First I sent a simple command to flicker the headlights a little, and then I killed the engine.

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"Fuck, this piece of shit died again! It better not be anything to horrible this time!" He said as he was stepping out of the vehicle.

"If you move, I will know, so best stay still" He said As I saw all 5 lights light back up.

He moved to the front of the car, and opened the hood.

At this point, I didn't know what else to do, so I pinged the car.

Just as I had hoped I saw dozens of golden lines shoot out in multiple directions, but the important one was standing in front of the car looking at the engine.

I silently testing the door and found thankfully it was not locked, so I slightly opened it.

And with a final deep breath, I sent out a copy of the Lights Out Daemon on the pinged link.

Unfortunately, having been connected to the link even through the mobile line, It would still come back to me, but it would take a few moments.

In those moments, I saw the skinny guy step back from the hood as he was grabbing his head, and with knowing it worked on him, I took off down the main street we just came from.

I got to the intersection when my left eye failed and sparked, sending pain through my head, making my head swim slightly again.

I kept running for about 5 minutes, losing myself in night city when my right eye was failing and flicking out, so I found an alley and hid behind a dumpster.

Upon sitting down, not even 10 seconds later, all functions in my eyes had stopped.

I sat there for a moment, hoping on hope that my eyes would come back on.

But they never did. I was now in a part of the city I hadn't recognized when I could barely see.

And now I only have darkness and the sounds of the city to accompany me.

I sat there trying to decide what I could do when the weight of it all came down on me and I just started crying.

Letting everything wash over me for the next little while, I wept for an unknown time.

After finishing up crying, I sat there for a long time just looking to see what can be done.

I couldn't call, use the map, view recording, or worse of all, see.

I was lost in a part of the city I don't know and even with sight it might have been hard, with out sight although, I knew I was pretty helpless.

Having stumbled my way down the alley a little I could hear the jiggle of an XL burrito vending machine, and went up to it.

Now realizing I was even more screwed, I didn't have much money, but I could have certainly bought some food from vending machines.

But the transfer didn't go as I stood in front of the machine, so it was likely done through the eyes.

Hooking into the vending machine I found the security of it was actually a lot better then the skinny mans car.

Sighing, I just sat down next to the vending machine.

Well this is going to be a tough one, but I don't have much choice as to what to do next.

I didn't know what to do, I had found food, so that is good, but I didn't have access to it and who knew if I could even hack the machine to be able to get any, any time soon.

The sound of the jingle for the XL burrito coming from the machine were drowning out the other noises around me, so I moved away from the machine.

There wasn't to much in specific that I could hear, it was more of a mass of noise that anything else.

But after wandering around I was very likely at the edge of the Alleyway as everything in front of my sounded as if it opened up and was alot louder.

Stepping out of the alley I walked with my right hand trailing the building on my right until I came to the end of the building and another one was only feet away if I could hear right.

So letting my right hand drop from the build, I started stepping forward slowly feeling out in front of me.

Finally after nearly a minute as I was going slow, my fingers touched the new building, so I put the building on my right and follow this one.

My right hand touching a door as I went, I felt it push in slightly from a light touch, so the door was unlocked.

Pushing the door the rest of the way open, I went in hearing machines running.

I could smell some fruity smells, sour body odor, and steam a little.

Thankfully this was familiar and I know about where I was hopefully.

Being inside a laundry Mat would be good, so I entered and went to the back of the location by feel.

After the last machine on the right, there seemed to be a little indent beside one of the dryers.

I tested it and I could curl up there and sleep, so I had found me a place inside to sleep, at least for tonight.

So I started to explore a bit more.

There was a jingle to a vending machine I didn't know, so there was at least that.

But as I was exploring I found something very important, a water fountain.

I don't know why it was here but thank god.

Without food for so long, my stomach was growling, so I drank my fill until I felt nice and full.

I couldn't do that to often as I might get sick but for now it felt nice.

So I made my way slowly back to the back right corner and slide into the little indent.

I sat there for a little while just thinking.

While doing so I let sleep take me, after such a long day, a good sleep is exactly what I needed.
