As my dad was driving us, I was watching as we passed a few houses, I hadn't really noticed, but this little community wasn't very large, maybe 20 houses, but they had some descent defenses.
Names the main one, we were pulling up to now, set into the 10+foot wall was a gate that had cameras set up, with men guarding it.
This seemed out of the normal to me, but clearly was normal for us, since both my dad, and mom didn't seem fazed by it, even chatting with one of two of the guards before going through the gate.
We were now on long road, and less than a 5 minute drive from Night City. The game didn't really put the scale of everything into prospective.
The towering buildings in the city was much larger that anything I had seen in my previous life, and more vibrant with the various neon lights everywhere.
I could already tell I am going to love night city! A city of dreams and nightmares, but one I can't wait to dive into!
Lost in daydreaming about the city, I notice us turn down a side street and arrive at the doctors office.
To me it looked to be a standard run of the mill doctors office, albeit one in a tech heavy world.
As we enter, I see my parents don't stop at the front desk, so its likely I have had this appointment coming for a while.
"Ahh, the Reath family final appears! Mark, get table 2 ready and work through the patients on there, I will take table one, and will be busy for a bit." The doctor tell what looks to be the nurse.
"Right, if I have any trouble, I will call for you."
"Hello, My name is Dr. Micheals, Now come set on this big chair young man, I can tell you may be a little nervous, but as your mom won't stop talking about how smart you are, Is there anything I can help to explain to alleviate some of that." The doctor says while motioning to a chair like you would see at a dentist's office.
I think for a moment, and can't really like of anything, but decide to ask "I'm not really nervous, and don't really have a question. But I did want to see what kinds of things my new eyes will be able to do."
"I understand, I haven't really looked at the specifics for the eyes, but I do understand they are typically the pair an office worker for a corporation would have." Seeing my face change to slightly sad, the doctor wheeled over to a container and took out what look to be thermos.
"That may not sound like much, but would you want to look at them?" The doctor was grinning as he asked.
Feeling a slight hesitation, I say "Sure?"
With a pop and a hiss, the container releases a little bit of fog as the doctor pull the Cap of the thermos away showing that the inside of the cap has a small arm, hold the eyes. "There see, pretty cool right? Nothing to be afraid of as well, just don't touch them, they still need to be sterile."
Closely looking at the eyes, I have to say was pretty cool, I had expected just a machine look to them, but they actually were highly made and the Eyes themselves on the end of the machinery and bundled up wire looked almost real, if not for it being on the end of a machine and missing the head that goes with them.
"They are pretty cool, thanks for showing them to me."
"Ahah" he chuckled, putting the eyes away "No need for thanks, but your welcome! Now, lets get you ready, this shouldn't be to long. Roxxy, Alyn, I would advise to make yourself comfortable in the lobby, or my office, and after I am done, I will come to get you."
My mother, displeased to hear she had to leave my side, begrudgingly left me with my father slightly pulling her.
"No, you get this mask, and I want you to try to count to 100 for me!"
"Ok, 1, 2, 3...... 4.....5.." I drifted off to sleep at that, unable to get as high as I though I would.

Waking up to an unfamiliar ceiling again had me a little panicked at first, but then I realized where I was. With a slight twinge of pain and a heavy feeling to my head, I slowly sat up.
Lightly touching the back of my head, I felt almost no difference, just a few ports were now in my head.
Apparently the movement had caught someone's attention as I was no longer focusing on my head, and saw a nurse next to me.
"You look to be alright, but I will ask. Is there any Dizziness or disorientation?"
"No, nothing like that really. Just a little pain and soreness"
Hearing this, the nurse went to the Table next to me, and pulled out a box from the drawer. From the box she took what seemed to be an inhaler.
Handing the item to me, she put it in my hand saying
"Hold it like this, with your thumb here, and you put this in your mouth, and breath deep when you press the button with your thumb. Like this" Motioning how to to do it.
Following the instructions, I do it like a normal inhaler, breathing deep I can feel my whole body was slightly off. A very slight numbness had settled on my.
After I had done this, the nurse took the Inhaler while saying "I will give this to your parents and if are feeling pain you can another puff after 1 hour. The effect are meant to be pretty instant, but will fade pretty quickly. I will leave this with your mom and if you feel any change or slight pain, we recommend it for a few days. I will leave you now, you parents should be back in a moment, they are just speaking with Sam... I mean Dr. Micheals." The nurse seemed to stammer the last part and was walking away.
Smiling as the nurse left, I laid back a bit, already messing around with the Visual hud of my new eyes.
I quickly find out there are little tabs, for each of the items/actions you could normally do with a smartphone.
Facepalming..... I hadn't realized, but yea, all the items you would normally have on your smartphone, can be done in your eyes.
Well there goes the smartphone idea. My mom now noticing I am up and moving around comes over to me with my dad and Dr. Micheals still talking as they walk.
"Hey, How are you feeling?" she asks a little gingerly, like something might actually be wrong.
"All good mom, Heads a little heavy, but that is to be expected with a chunk of new chrome in my head." I say with a slight chuckle.
Dad and Sam chuckle at this and my mom didn't seem amused "Ok, if you are feeling fine, we will head out! Thank you again sam, I knew I could get the items, but I wanted his first install to be under my watch and you did an amazing job. " She said while ushering me and my dad to leave the room.
"As I said before roxxy, No need to thank me, but you are welcome! Be sure to bring him for regular checkups, and if there is any issue, bring him in!" He said, now heading further into the building, likely for other customers now that I was taken care of.
"Was nice seeing sam again, still a trip seeing him as a standup doctor and all!" Dad seemed to mutter the last bit
"Glad you had fun, even if it was a standard procedure, I didn't like being here to long. I can't wait to get home." My mom said
"Mom, do you not like Cybernetics? I can see you have the eyes now that I look, but do you have anything else?" I asked, genuinely wondering what my parents had.
"Your mother and I have what we need and nothing more, but truthfully, we don't have a lot. Never really needed it to be honest. But just about everyone gets the standard setup you did, its to useful to not get it." Dad was distracted and lightly scratching at his right elbow.
We all hurdled into the card, mom driving now, we all wanted to be home to relax some.
"SC spotted, Live?" Mom asked, I didn't understand, but dad just nodded and seemed to relax in his seat a little.
We started to pull out of the parking spot for the doctors office, and as we made it to the turn to get back onto the main street, a man tapped on the window.
My mom, ignoring the man, started to pull out when the man an other near him were opening up firing at the car! It all felt surreal life, it shouldn't be happened but the bullets were clearly largerand you could feel the hit to the car as they kept coming.
As soon as the firing start, mom hit the gas and was taking off, but the car was making a loud bumping noise, which I could tell was a flat we were grinding against the ground even as we gained distance.
After everything settled d0wn I noticed my heart rate climbing a bit, and had a weird feeling come over me, like going from a cold shower out to a hot summers day.
I hadn't noticed the cool feeling settle over me.
Before I knew it, we weren't far from the gate, when I leaned forward, and tried to speak to my mom and day.
"What was that, why were they wanting to attack us, what do we......"
I trailed off looking in my dads hand resting on his lap, there laid out with his hand on the handle was an Overture. What I can only say is just a big ass revolver overtuned for the cyberpunk world.
"Wow, it looks so cool! Dad, when we get back, can you unlock that and let me look at it?" I said in genuine amazement.
To which Dad, chuckle heartily and mom grumbled, saying something about boys and their toys.
"Sure Jason, set back, we are almost home. And who did you pick the word cool up from, I thought kids nowadays just said everything was "Preemo" or something.
Poor dad, clearly making a dad joke I couldn't help but laugh a bit inside but just said "I don't know, I heard it somewhere and I liked it, so I thought I should use it. Mom is it weird I said cool?"
Giving the Poor defenceless kid face to mom in the rear view mirror, I clearly had her "Oh, sweety, it is an old word but I think you make it sound good! You're definitely cool to me!"
I cringed a bit at hearing her say the word cool like she didn't understands it use.
We arrived back at the house after a long day, and I was tired, so skipping the Gun tutorial from dad, I ate a quick lunch with mom before taking a nap.
