Chapter 11 – A friend lost

I have been doing this routine for about 2 months, I am getting closer to having the 8000 eddies to get some discount eyes from one of Larz's Friends.

Larz was the big man that worked at the gas station. it seemed that the gas station was not very active thankfully, so sometimes I would just hangout with Larz or listen to the radio.

But if he saw a customer pull up, I would have to either wait out back or just not be inside as he handled them. Some sounded a little rude or violent but I never heard that from larz.

I would be lying if I didn't fall into a kind of a loose schedule of sleeping to around noon, and then doing old jobs for larz before assisting with the trash and ending the day eating and drinking before going to sleep.

I did end up going back to the laundromat to get the thick blanket I had felt in the lost and found, and a largish plastic/leather jacket I rolled up and tied a sock around it to keep it as a roll I use as a pillow.

I was still sleeping on the ground in that little hut, but it was much less cold and I didn't wake up with a headache everyday now.

After that the days were starting to meld together. I learned that larz is in a gang, but won't tell me which.

From his accent I can tell it shouldn't be TC unless he was born in NC and just didn't have the accent.

He didn't sound drugged out and crazy, so likely not a scav thankfully.

I just couldn't remember all the gangs of Night City, and without access to my eyes for clues, or my Records for the same reason, I couldn't tell.

Today as I was setting with Larz talking about some of the music that people liked to listen to in night city, I let it slip that I disliked most of the music.

Larz was a little surprised at this, he shared my sentiment regarding the music saying it use to be much better which I can only agree to as Johnny Had made some good music.

"One of these days I will just have to replace all this bad music with some real good stuff!" I said in a proud manner.

Larz just chuckled "yea sure kid, I can see it now. "The best song in the world, written and produced by by Jason from the street.""

"Nah, How about Carry on my wayward son by Jason Reath. I will make sure people remember the name!" at this Larz got quiet.

I could tell something I had said set him on edge. It was at this point I heard a few cars pulling up so I go up from the chair and was making my way back to leave out the back.

When I was nearly there, Larz Yelled out for me. "Get back to the shed now and don't leave until I come and get you."

Slightly worried I went a little quicker and got back to the shed and closed the door and locked it.

I had found the way to lock it from the inside, and it was just as easy to open it from the inside as well.

I waited in there, Drinking on the 1 liter pop from the previous night.

I had become slightly flat, but surprisingly it made it better, it almost tasted like Coke Cola.

Finally after waiting for nearly two hour, more then enough time to close the store, the gate creaked like it was going to open but stopped for a second.

"I don't know if you will want to enter here, smell is kinda bad ahah." Larz said to someone.

"Ya, deff not goin in, but if you catch wind, shoot me a line and we will take care of it, don't want to have to come back."

The person talking clearly was a scav, and this made me grit my teeth in anger at him.

Larz put the trash in the crusher and activated it leaving and closing the door.

I couldn't hear outside of the small shed just yet, but when the crusher finish moments later, I could hear the road of engines as they were leaving.

Lars then came back and opened the gate, looking at my sadly.

"Look kid, I think they were looking for you. And I don't want to get mixed up, so I will just give you the rest your need to get new eyes and get you some place I know you will be safe."

I held out the chip and larz took it from me before saying "Just stay inside, I will move the eddies to the chip and pull my car over."

I stayed like he said. I undid the roll on the large jacket, putting it on. It was 2 sizes to big, but would allow me to move with it more easily even with my other jacket on under it.

Then I tied the ends of the blanket and wore it like a makeshift backpack sling and waited for larz.

A minute or so later, I heard the car pull up, so I exited and reached for the door of the car, finding it was a an old box truck.

I entered and sat on the seat and buckled up, as larz began to drive us.

"Probably best you not come back around, and I know if you walked away, you would just memorize the area. Sorry kid."

I nodded "I understand larz, I know not many people would have helped a blind kid in night city, and that says alot about you. It may be that we never see each other again, but Just be on the lookout for my name in the future!"

Larz chuckled "Ok Jason, stay safe." I could have sworn I heard a quiver in his voice and a sniffle as we pulled up to the place he would drop me off at.

The just loud enough music playing for the location was distracting, but I opened the door and got out before turning and saying "You stay safe as well Larz, you one of the few good people of night city." And closed the door, and backed away.

At this, I heard the the truck pull away, so I turned to face the music, both figuratively and literally.
