Side story: Halloween Breakfast

“Li, do you want to go visit mom and dad’s grave tomorrow?”

My younger brother, Lu, said as he opened his laptop. So early in the morning and the first thing he does is check the internet. I know we rarely have time to visit even on their anniversary so I understand him wanting to visit during all souls day, even though we’re miles away from our home country, but.

“Can’t. Halloween concert.”

I said after sipping coffee. He stopped typing and looked up. He forgot, his eyes definitely says he forgot. For someone who’s as organized as him to forget. Is he getting senile?

“… old man…”

I said and he silently hanged his head and lamented. I took another sip and saw his soft black silky hair glittered from the morning sun shining from the window. I held my hand and patted while his laments became audible.

“I forgoooooot!!! Liiiiii…”

There’s nothing wrong in forgetting, we’re also done with the preparations so it’s fine. Maybe he felt too relaxed after last night.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

“There there…”

I continued to pet the sprawled Lu.

“Here, breakfast! ANDI!!!”

Nadi called the youngest. She placed four plates on the table with sausages, eggs, salad and toast. From the inner room of the hotel suite, a sleepy Andi walked out with bed hair and dark circles under his eyes.

I’m not one to restrict hobbies but at this state…

“… playing till late at night is bad.”

“Sorryaaaaaahhhn…”

He answered with a huge yawn and rubbed his eyes. Breakfast was ready. I smiled feeling glad that they keep their promise. Our promise to always eat together, as a family.

“Big sis, can we wear the halloween costume I made? You know, the pumpkin motif one?”

Nadi excitedly sliced her sausages. I want to say yes and I know I spoil them a lot so I’m worried about what the production might have to say.

Tonight’s concert is for our band, The Red Letter. It was a joke boss thought up when he formed our band— instead of a love letter, it represents an assassination notice. We are a four man mercenary team that contributes greatly to Dragon’s Eye so he thought up this weird cover for us to enter the country where our targets are.

I prefer solo war missions but I’m already hot on the wanted list so I guess I can’t say no to this. In then end, I had to dye my hair and be on support until the heat cools down. So now, we four siblings, perform as the popular internet sensation, the masked band— The Red Letter.

“Let’s ask Mary later.”

I said spreading butter and the runny yolk on my warm toast. Breakfast was peaceful. Yes, meals with them should always this peaceful. And as hypocritical as that may sound, I want nothing more than this peaceful days to continue.

Maybe I’ll visit mom and dad after this.
