Episode 3: Chapter 38 - From Black to Blue

I felt the mana around me while it entered my body and passed through my hands. Big sis glowed with glittering black light, absorbing the mana, while color returned to her pale face. Her whole aura looked amazing in pair with her prettiness.

“Well then, I leave my big sis to you.”

After giving her all the mana she needed, I threw a wink at the prince who was standing beside the bed watching what I just did.

“Tell me, what was that?”

Henry, the prince’s sidekick asked in an accusing tone. I rolled my eyes and placed the warp card in a corner, removing all the stuff near it.

“I just gave her mana. Brother said it activates the body’s self-healing capabilities or something.”

I answered and sat on a chair with a soft plop, then I focused on Andi.

“[Andi? Can you hear me? Do you think you could place the warp card on the ground so I can activate it?]”

I called out to my twin. The two visitors who heard my voice quiet down, looking at me with curiosity.

[...Y-yeah...]

A pitiable voice resounded in my head. My brows knotted in worry and my heart was gripped with fear of losing him.

I swear that I will tear the person who did this to you, limb. by. limb...!

[done...]

His tired voice brought me back from my thoughts and I immediately activated his card from my side. As I closed my eyes, I could see the card in darkness tremble. It absorbed my mana producing a thin bluish-black portal beating quietly like a fish’s soft fin.

Then, I flashed open my eyes and kneeled to touch my card. Soon, a silent hum and a thin bright blue portal that swirled and radiated in whiteness appeared. It was connected to Andi’s card, turning his into the same bright blue colored portal. This color change meant that the portals are connected to each other.

I entered the portal in a hurry and like a flash of a camera through a lens, the scenery changed from a victorian styled room to a soil cave-like place.

The whole place was enough for three people to lie down comfortably, it was a earth-bunker spell I made to hide in times of danger. Knowing the size, it didn’t take me a while to find Andi lying helplessly on the ground.

He lied clutching his side while blood dripped furiously. Dry blood crusted on his arm and parts of his body and clothes while fresh hot blood covered his hand.

“Andi!”

I kneeled in worry and took out a bottle from my bag. It was a 1 gallon ceramic bottle filled with alcohol that big brother made.

“Here, bite on this. I’ll pour alcohol on your wound so it might sting a bit.”

I placed an inch thick piece of wood on his mouth and made him bite on it. I knew he experienced pain more painful than this but I had to be careful. I wouldn’t want him to lose even more blood than this!

Making sure he bit on the wood. I poured half of the bottle’s content, making him moan in pain.

“There, there. All we need is to close the wound and I’ll have big bro come.”

I took out a card from my pocket. It was a super heal card. This card will heal any external wounds but cannot heal any diseases nor infections from those wounds, so most of the time, the infected wounds start to fester and fever would ensue.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

We learned this the hard way when I used this on Andi’s infected wound. It was a small cut, something he got when he carelessly hit his knee during our travels around Eloheim. He left it alone without treatment and it quickly festered.

I tried to use heal to close the wound and was proud of the achievement but he soon got a fever. We found out the his wound continued to fester from the inside and had to remove all the pus by cutting it.

It was the yuckiest thing I’ve ever seen! I don’t want to see that ever again! Gross!

I had goosebumps all over as I remembered that disgusting experience. Which was why I generously poured alcohol all over his wound.

Soft bluish-green light floated from the card with warmth coming from each light. Like a firefly, it floated on Andi’s wounds. Each wound glowed with the same color while the biggest cut was filled with converging lights and glowed brighter than the rest.

A little while later, his wounds completely closed and only a pale peaceful humming breaths came from Andi.

“[Big bro, I’m connecting yours.]”

I faced the same blue portal radiating a white glow and directed my mana towards it. Soon, it flickered a little bit and with a silent hum, it connected to big brother’s portal successfully.

A foot covered in snow entered from the portal, then my brother’s face flushed with coldness entered with a serious expression.

In front of other people, he shows a fake kind and polite personality that fit his face, but with us, big brother is just a big whiny baby. But whenever something unfortunate happens, he only react in two extremes. One, he will pretend everything is fine and will be all smiles, acting stupid. The other, he will be so worried that he will either cry or get angry, which will be either a shirt full of snot or a slap, sometimes a punch or two.

Right now, I can see that he was definitely worried. His eyes glistened wet, if he saw Andi’s early state, he would definitely bawl as soon as he saw him.

He looked at Andi with worry and folded his puffy coat inside-out, making a make-shift pillow for him. I placed a blanket on the ground and we both laid him down to rest.

“Nadi, how’s your spells?”

He wiped his tears revealing an angry face while his eyes glowed blue under his glasses.

“I was bored waiting for you two so I made 5 of each. For offense and defense, I have 9 thunder, 10 fire, 5 water, 15 ice, 11 earth and 6 wind. For heal, I have 35 heals, 35 high heals, 24 super heals, 15 purifies and also 15 antidotes of each kind.”

I enumerated my spells as I shuffle the spell cards from my pocket. It was hard to make each card, so for the past week, I was only able to make 5 cards by myself. Production was low this week because I don’t have brother to help me regulate my magic.

My offensive and defensive spells weren’t as specific as the healing spells. I only place elemental mana on the card and assist the creation of magic with my imagination. That’s why Andi and I always named it after well-known elemental skills or magic from Earth, this widens my fighting ability and makes a stable image. Compared to big brother and Andi, even though I can tap into mana outside my body, I don’t have control over my magic, making it unstable and unpredictable. These spell cards makes it easier for me to direct my magic like how wands or staves do.

“Good. As much as I want to go back right away, I’m feeling kind of pissed right now.”

He stood up, his eyes continued to glow looking at the an empty space in the soil cave. He’s probably using his magic enhanced eyes to look for the enemy.

“You sure it wasn’t because of the prince?”

I had my doubts, but for some reason, brother’s attitude towards the prince was different from his usual. He was smiling but I can somehow see a vein ready to pop.

Hearing my words he wore a complicated expression like he was just found out. He scratched his head and he crouched, holding his face with his hands.

“Aaarrgh!”

He let out an unintelligible muffled scream in frustration, then sighed in resignation and looked at his hand. Looking at him, I just noticed that his hair was dripping wet from the melted snow that clung to him.

“I can’t help it! Every time I see him or hear his voice, I feel a creeping irritation from the pits of my stomach. Then, my face would start to twitch while I try hard to keep my poker face on! He was like a pretentious prick trying to act all prince-like with a kind voice, smiling sweetly at everyone like he would protect and die for you!”

He started to whine— a typical hypocritical moment for my big brother.

“You do know that he’s a real prince and you’re basically describing yourself right?”

I said in a huff placing my hands on my waist. Like an imaginary arrow hitting his heart from the back, he clutched his heart with a pained expression.

“So mean! I just wanted to complain! Don’t I deserve to complain even for a little bit!”

Him being like this, it seemed like his worried expression earlier was all an act. But I doubt that’s all it was.

After all, why would we stay and fight if he wasn’t angry at those who did this to Andi. I’ll definitely kill them slowly and painfully!

Unconsciously, a ruthless smile painted my face, excited of what’s about to happen.
