Day 29
So… I’ve been ‘hunting’ this past few days and I found that the most common monsters in the forest are:
1. Horned rabbit - white fluffy angora-looking rabbits with red beady eyes and a small horn on their head. They’re a lot, so I wasn’t surprised that this is the territory’s specialty. They taste awesome and I can say for sure that Li will love this very much! Ahh~… I want to cook for her.
2. Peach fox - they’re basically fennec foxes with colors ranging from light pink to orangey-pink? What was it again? Salmon? Is that Nadi’s hair color? Bah, I don’t know… men aren’t supposed to know that much color, but for the sake of records I shall do my job diligently.
3. Ground Bear - even my cute aesthetics are touched by this creature. It has a rugged-edgy appearance and texture like that of cut stone but it’s shape is roundish that it triggers my ‘cuteness is justice!’ virtue. It’s smaller than normal bears (If such a thing do exist in this world. I even question my own brain, sometimes.), since I haven’t found any cubs around so I guess this is it, just a bear, no cubs. Warning: don’t be fooled by its appearance because it will maul you when your guard is down due to its cuteness.
4. Breeze Wolf - I guess they’re named like that because they can use wind magic. But at least change it to gale wolf! That motherfucker almost blew me away! Friggin’ breeze doesn’t even cut it! I digress, it's pale green in color with a fluffy tuft on its chest and forehead like a pompadour. XD
5. Meldrid Deer - they’re rare and often seen north of the river. They look like normal deers and have spots but instead of white spots like common fawns, they have rainbow jewel like things embedded on them. Stags are even luxurious, instead of typical antlers, it looks like a giant gemstone carved into a jagged set of antlers. Their fur also varies from white to pale blue and the color of the gem depends on the magic they are able to use. Yes, they are able to use magic. Seems like the king of the forest is strong on this one. Haha. They can also hop on air, like what I would imagine Santa’s reindeers would do.
So far, they’re the only ones I’ve encountered. I’ll update more next month. I heard there were other kinds of bears though…
Now for magic. I’ve made some experiments after reading the book ‘Beginner’s guide to magic’. Hey, mister author. Can’t you at least give it a more enthusiastic title? It’s sooo boring!
Anyway, it said that practicing magic by yourself is dangerous and should have a tutor watching over you but since I don’t have time nor money for such luxury, I never listened.
Besides, I’ve managed by myself! I sat beside the river in the forest when practicing fire! I tied myself to a tree when using wind magic! And I stayed far away from any bodies of water when using water magic so I wouldn’t drown. Earth was the easiest but I never died! I got injured though, but it doesn’t hurt! Promise! (It hurt…)
I go off tangent, but ta-da~! Here’s the result:
Observation 1: Magic is based on an image — It can be said through incantations like asking the elements to form this and that. They say it’s a trigger but chant-less magic is easier for me. The book said that chant-less magic is trickier compared to the other, but it isn’t rare. Only those who have deeper understanding of the elements are able to use it. Mostly elves and daemons.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
Observation 2: Magic can be anything — since there is already a preconception that you can only use the four elements, only a handful can use secondary elements by combining two classical elements. As for my case who studied chemistry, I’ve become omnipotent? I can basically control nature from normal control through growth and accumulation, materialization and dissolution. I can bend the law of nature with my will due to my knowledge of science! It’s a huge help with my job too, because now I can make unlimited runes without using any materials! Yay!
Observation 3: Mana is used in magic — mana, which has a great correlation to any fiction I’ve ever watched and read to magic. After mastering my omnipotent magic, I delved deeper into mana. And as I thought, it is very similar to qi and another disturbing element, aether. Aether or the fifth element is in most theories, anti-matter. But mana is even more complicated than aether, since it is inside your body and outside your surroundings, it is possible to circulate those inside and tap into those outside. Li’s use of qi proved mana is similar to qi. With qi, Li is able to boost her strength and her speed, she can also hasten her self-regenerating ability to an unimaginable rate, which led me to try and study the human body (I quit though, too gruesome for an 11 year old). Which means, qi is the purest form of mana, an empty paper, uncorrupted with the colors of the elements.
With this knowledge, even though I’m not capable of circulating qi and strengthening it, since I was able to learn how to tap into mana from outside, I was able to understand the mana flowing into me. A little different from Li’s way of using it where instead of circulating it inside, I wrapped myself with it. So, strength and speed boost are a piece of cake! Except for regeneration. I was able to use the mana outside like a game-like skill called heal and cure but circulating mana to speed up my self-regeneration is too hard!
The effects of both are too different. For example: if there was a wound made by a poisoned dagger, in magic, I first need to cast cure to remove the poison then cast heal to close the wound, I used the light element here but I heard that combining earth and water elements can have the same effect with lesser results. Blood loss will still remain and if I forgot to use cure before hand, the poison will remain and slowly kill the wounded. In qi circulation, anti-bodies will be created to fight the poison, blood will be supplemented and while all of that is happening, I can heal the wound simultaneously. No mana was used or wasted and works faster than magic. Qi is undoubtedly better but learning it is next to impossible.
Anyway, back to aether! I made some experiments — and of course I used a strong barrier. When mana isn’t converted to an element it can be used as ‘force’ like attack. Y’know, the force? Haha! But when I tried to compress it, as thin as a strand of fine hair, I triggered a small scale super nova inside my barrier. I made the barrier like a contamination chamber, so I wasn’t hurt or anything but the reactions were the same as supernova. It was vacuum sealed so no other element were present aside from a tiny pebble I placed inside. I was surprised that I left a huge crater inside the forest.
Though antimatter remains a theory or stuff of fiction, but what the heck. I’m no physicist so what do I know? And besides, MAGIC IS REAL! I’ll say it again.
M A G I C = R E A L WOOOOOOOOT!!!
Observation 4: My mana - I’ve tried many experiments and used a lot of mana, but it seems like some people only have a limited amount. When I started, the book said to feel for the mana outside so I went with the logic of using mana outside to use magic. Apparently, one isn’t able to do so and can only used the mana inside their bodies. So what the heck am I doing? I absorb the mana outside and convert them into my own? Does this mean I’m bottomless? Rather, my mana is bottomless? Am I that awesome? But wait, will there be a shortage of mana in the atmosphere if I absorb all of it? Will this planet die? Will it wither or fall out of its revolution from the sun? Or worse, will it trigger an implosion that will decimate the whole planet? Haha… it won’t right? Yes, yes… it won’t! I’m sure it won’t!
What should I do if it comes to that? Will it be my fault? And what’s up with dark magic?
