Chapter 7: The Violent Mage
The training ground at the second school was the size of a basketball court and was fully enclosed.
During battles, students were expected to give their all without holding back. The training ground had a protective monitoring system, and the teachers were always watching closely.
This lesson, which would take the entire day, only occurred once every two months.
In the morning, there were two-person team battles, and in the afternoon, solo fights. Ye Feng and Han Yi, being desk mates, naturally teamed up, while Li Mubai was paired with Wan Tianle.
The class had 42 students, making up 21 pairs. Apart from Ye Feng and Han Yi, the other 19 teams consisted of a boy and a girl, and everyone was envious of them.
"No worries, bro! In a fight, guys are way more reliable than women!" Han Yi pumped himself up with a fist.
Ye Feng rolled his eyes. "Next time, could you at least hide your jealousy when looking at other teams?"
Once the teams were assigned, everyone began discussing strategies. Sun Lanxue, the teacher, glanced at the students, her gaze landing on Ye Feng.
She wanted to see how much his strength had progressed and whether he'd reached the target of five stars.
As a fire element talent, he could not afford to fall behind under her watch.
Perhaps eager to gauge Ye Feng’s abilities, Sun Lanxue arranged for Team 1 and Team 12 to face off first.
Team 1 was composed of the best students—Su Xinya, a wood element mage, and Qiu Qizhou, a wind element mage—both of whom had already reached the low-tier six-star level within just two months of school.
Team 12, of course, was Han Yi and Ye Feng.
"Looks like we’re lucky, bro! We’re fighting the class queen and king," Han Yi grinned, cracking his knuckles.
"Teach me, Han Yi." Qiu Qizhou was already curious about the tough-looking Han Yi and wanted to see if he was as formidable as he appeared. The tension was palpable.
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
Ye Feng, however, was bored and stretched lazily. His nonchalant attitude irked Su Xinya.
"Disrespecting me? Arrogant fool!" she thought. She couldn't believe someone who was still a one-star mage two months ago could catch up to her.
Sun Lanxue noticed the rising tension and immediately announced the start of the battle.
Just moments before the battle began, Li Mubai and Wan Tianle had already started a betting pool.
Everyone else, except them, was betting on Ye Feng and Han Yi’s loss, thinking it was an easy win. Little did they know, the two of them were privately laughing at how naive everyone was.
The moment the battle started, Han Yi let out a roar and charged toward Qiu Qizhou, swinging a fist. Qiu Qizhou quickly summoned wind to increase his speed and dodged the attack.
"Leave this guy to me, you take the girl!" Han Yi shouted.
"Got it," Ye Feng replied, stretching once more before dashing toward Su Xinya in a burst of fire.
Su Xinya was taken aback, quickly summoning wooden vines to form a protective shield.
"Break!" Ye Feng’s fists, wrapped in flames, slammed into the shield with a powerful punch. The wooden shield was instantly punctured.
Meanwhile, Han Yi was throwing a series of metal throwing knives at Qiu Qizhou, forcing him to dodge, his speed slowing. Han Yi seized the opportunity, conjuring a metal baseball bat and rushing in.
"Take this!" he swung the bat, slamming it into Qiu Qizhou’s wind barrier with a deafening crash. The barrier shattered, and Qiu Qizhou was sent flying, landing hard.
Fortunately, Sun Lanxue was quick to react, catching him and using healing magic to stabilize his condition.
On Ye Feng's side, the battle was far from over. Su Xinya continued to attack with vine after vine, but Ye Feng was unstoppable. Every punch left a hole in the wooden tendrils, forcing her to retreat.
She was in disbelief. "This is a mage? Fire mages are supposed to be long-range attackers, not close combatants!"
Meanwhile, Han Yi sat on the ground, enjoying a bag of spicy snacks with no intention of intervening.
Ye Feng leapt into the air. Seeing an opportunity, Su Xinya summoned several vines to entangle him mid-flight. But Ye Feng’s right leg ignited with flames.
A move he had learned from his time with San Zhi!
"Devil's Wind Kick!"
The flames instantly burned the vines to cinders, and the blinding fire left Su Xinya in a state of shock. She had never felt so close to death before.
Ye Feng landed gracefully and smiled. "Looks like I won."
The crowd fell silent, then gasped in unison. Both Ye Feng and Han Yi were pure violence incarnate. Their fighting style was more like a warrior’s than a mage’s—were they even human?
Sun Lanxue couldn’t help but smile inwardly. Ye Feng's talent was extraordinary; with a little more effort, he could surpass many other students.
His mastery of fire had clearly reached a middle-tier level.
Before she could reflect further, she was interrupted by the loud laughter of Li Mubai and Wan Tianle, who were counting their winnings and enjoying themselves.
"Next round, Groups 2 and 11 will face off," Sun Lanxue announced.
