Chapter 12: The Four Specially Attended Students

Ye Feng leaned back in his chair, gazing out the window at the sky.

Unconsciously, he realized that he had truly integrated into this world.

This world, after all, was just a mortal realm, devoid of any cultivation systems. Without cultivation, there was no way for anyone here to break through the limits of lifespan. Ye Feng, however, was already at the Golden Core stage, and his lifespan stretched over thousands of years. As time passed, his friends and loved ones would inevitably fade away, leaving him behind.

The people of this world had no spiritual roots, and the only reason he could cultivate was due to a portion of his soul’s power from his past life. Essentially, his body existed because of that soul—he was the only one capable of cultivation in this world.

“It’s been so many years since I last refined pills. I wonder how my skills have progressed.”

A bold thought crossed his mind. Since he couldn’t change this world, he could at least change those around him. Through alchemy, he was sure he could help his friends and family transform themselves. However, this path was long, and he would have to slowly experiment.

“Big Brother, dinner’s ready!”

Hearing Ye Xueying’s voice, Ye Feng smiled faintly.

“This life is so good.”

He stood up and left his bedroom, heading towards the dining table in the living room.

The next day, Ye Feng arrived at class with just a backpack. Unsurprisingly, the other three—Han Yi, Li Mubai, and Wan Tianle—did the same, carrying the bare minimum. Compared to the bulging bags of other students, the four of them looked remarkably out of place.

Chen Zhendong looked at the four of them with satisfaction, then turned his gaze sharply towards the other students, his tone harsh and unforgiving.

Especially towards one girl, who was carrying a suitcase, a bag, and a purse. Anyone who didn’t know would think she was moving house.

“Ye Feng, Li Mubai, Wan Tianle, Han Yi—since you four performed the best, I’ll be personally leading you.”

As soon as these words left his mouth, the other students immediately gave a collective sigh of relief.

Once the groups were finalized, it was no surprise that the four of them received special attention and were taken under Chen Zhendong’s personal lead.

Group 1 Members: Ye Feng, Han Yi, Wan Tianle, Li Mubai

The four of them followed Chen Zhendong, breaking away from the larger group.

Dusk.

In the depths of a forest outside Peng City.

The Hexi District, once on the outskirts of the city, had been abandoned after a demon invasion battle. Even now, demons occasionally appeared here, although most were ordinary or low-tier beasts.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

There were still a few mid-tier demon species in the area, but they were rare.

“You’ve all been walking for quite a while; you must be tired. Let’s stop and rest for a bit.”

After confirming the area was secure, Chen Zhendong turned to address the four.

However, as soon as he turned around, he noticed that the four of them had already sat down near the riverbank, resting.

“Who told you to rest without my command?!”

Han Yi gave him a look that said “I’m not stupid” and replied, “Instructor, after you stopped and looked around for a while, there were no demon traces nearby.

Plus, we’ve been walking for so long, and this spot is perfect for setting up camp. Isn’t that what you intended?”

For a moment, Chen Zhendong couldn’t find a way to refute him.

No wonder he’s from the military district—he’s young but already knows a lot about battlefield tactics.

“Brother Feng, can you start the fire?”

Li Mubai pulled out a sealed packet of raw meat, and Ye Feng took it, opening it up.

With a whoosh, flames rose, and in no time, the meat was roasted to perfection. Ye Feng grabbed another piece and did the same.

As the four of them dug into the sizzling roasted meat, Chen Zhendong was secretly stunned.

He had spent years in the wild and knew just how difficult it was to get the timing right when roasting meat over a fire.

Ye Feng not only roasted it perfectly in no time, but he also controlled the fire with incredible precision.

His fire control ability was even more refined than Chen Zhendong’s own.

But soon, the thoughts of what Sun Lanxue had told him began to surface, and anger rose in his chest.

With such talent, why is he wasting it on a lazy, good-for-nothing attitude?

If I had this talent, I could be a top-tier mage, even breaking into the super-tier!

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became, and his gaze towards Ye Feng turned colder, filled with barely contained killing intent.

Ye Feng sensed the growing tension and inexplicably felt a bit guilty.

Has he figured out my true identity?

But quickly, Ye Feng dismissed the thought, realizing that Chen Zhendong’s anger wasn’t because of his identity, but his wasted potential.

This look... I’m too familiar with it.

Chen Zhendong sat down by the fire without saying another word, grabbed a piece of meat, and bit into it. The taste was surprisingly good.

“You four, take turns keeping watch tonight.”

Chen Zhendong gave his orders and then found a comfortable spot to lie down and rest.

Although it seemed like he was sleeping, he was actually watching the four closely, observing their behavior.

And then, he was dumbfounded.

The three of them simultaneously turned their gaze towards Wan Tianle, who was chewing on his roasted meat, and he immediately understood their unspoken request.

A summoning circle appeared, and a few skeletons rose from the ground, which Wan Tianle placed strategically around the area as sentries.

“I can’t believe I forgot that one of them is a summoner!”

Chen Zhendong could only shake his head in resignation, though there was a small smile of approval on his face.

He then decided to leave them be for now.

The starry sky above was brilliant, but Ye Feng lay on the grass, staring at the sky, not intending to sleep.

“Brother Feng, you look like something’s on your mind. You know, you’ve got this same distant expression as when I’ve seen families of the deceased bury their loved ones. Are you thinking about old friends?”

Wan Tianle walked over and asked, his tone curious.

Ye Feng smiled faintly and replied, “I suppose so. It’s more of a regret, I think.”

Wan Tianle watched him, feeling that this was the first time he had seen Ye Feng show such a look.

For some reason, it reminded him of the way his grandfather looked when reminiscing about the past.

Ye Feng gazed at the starry sky, a familiar figure flashing through his mind.

“I’ve accompanied you through this lifetime... and that’s enough.”

With a deep breath, Ye Feng closed his eyes and drifted to sleep. But unbeknownst to anyone, a single tear quietly slid down his cheek.

He still couldn’t forget...

The next morning, the four continued their journey under Chen Zhendong’s lead.

They passed through the forest and came upon an abandoned grass field. In the middle of the field lay a demon horse.

It was pitch black, with blood-red eyes.

“A mid-tier, one-star demon horse. Do you four think you can take it down?”

Chen Zhendong turned to look at the four, who all simultaneously shook their heads.

“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re doing. You’re trying to act timid to get me to offer you some rewards.

Well, if you can kill this demon horse, I’ll give each of you a low-tier magic artifact.”
