Chapter 1: The Beginning

Chapter 1: The Beginning

This is Ennepta, a world filled with wonder, joy and beauty. Where the wildlife is expansive and bewitching to the eye filled with animals of all sort. Where gigantic, ancient mountains stand tall and go beyond the clouds, but also where chaos and evil occupies itself through monsters and humans. Four continents are settled on this mesmerizing world.

TEURU, where the world famous VEIL Kingdom resides in surrounded by a mass of humongous forests, golden fields and dangerous mountaintops but also where Ennepta’s largest mountain resides, the Krysandilis Mountains. A frozen mass of rock that no one is able to reach the top off due to the harsh, frozen environment which hold the remains of a powerful and ancient creature that lived long, long ago.

SEFH, where the treacherous Gamor Kingdom resides in, surrounded by explosive volcanoes and filled with monsters such as Magomians, massive hunks of rock that are filled with lava and can move at ridiculous speeds on lava. Or the Weerq, a dog creature that has three eyes, charcoal black coat, claws that pulsate a burning red colour, a snout that can sense someone’s blood from a mile away, razor sharp teeth made from black rock, and small rings of lava that swirl around their whole body at extreme speeds. The Barren Lands, a large area of land that is covered in laughing trees that are so ominous that they would make anyone tremble in fear but the people who dare trespass into the wooden areas would get swarmed by humanoid monsters, from Wolven kind to lizard borne and shark borne. The Hunter Swamps, also known as the Land of the Undead, are filled with murky, poisonous water that can reach unfathomable depths but also where light cannot enter nor leave, sealing it in complete darkness.

ADELA, where the most astonishing Luminous Forest resides in, ruled over by the astounding Royal Elves who control the forest and monitor everything that happens in it by using the Ekrestean Flower, an astoundingly gorgeous flower the colour of snow that blooms every 100 years. Where fairies, spirits, dryads, golems, pixies, and enchanted beasts live but also a certain sleeping goddess slumbers away, waiting to be woken up one day by someone worthy of her power.

???, the land of nothing, a land that is filled with Dust Waves, powerful tornados that even kill fully grown wyverns the moment they enter as well as powerful dark storms that hover over the continent. A land so barren and terrifying that no one dares to enter its territory due to a certain being living there that is so powerful that whenever someone travelled over there, they never came back, no matter how strong they were or what kind of tricks they had up their sleeve.

Centuries ago, the people of Ennapta discovered Covenants. A special power that each person could acquire from creating a mutual bond with a familiar and each person could only hold one type of bond, resulting in them being able to only control one Covenant. The people of Ennapta used these Covenants to fight back against monsters, to build towns and cities, and to hunt for food. The people of Ennapta gained Covenants allowing them to become more powerful whilst the familiars that gave them these powers in return got to see a lush world become full of life and joy.

However, long ago, a certain man seemed to have discovered the true power of Covenants. The power he had uncovered made him hungry for more. He wanted more power, and more power, and more, and more, and more, until he was the strongest being in Ennapta so he razed and destroyed villages, took over mountains, and incinerated forests, but his lust for power was unsatiable, so he continued, until one day where he took it too far.

The King of Hellfire, as he was called, remembered that there was this little village, so peaceful and quiet, far away from the conflicts of other people but yet he wanted to destroy it because deep inside this village, he found out about a secret that was held within it that would have made him the strongest being. So, he set up an army made up of 10 Commandeers, 10 highly-skilled officials that became the centre of power and were the strongest individuals that the King himself had trained. So he trained them and sent them on a journey to go to this village and completely eviscerate it.

The village was razed and destroyed, the people tried as hard as they could to prevent their destruction but no one could overpower the Commandeers until someone from the army did something so unforgivable that it changed the outcome of the raid.

In a certain house, a mother and her two children in the village were getting ready to run away when one of the Army Captains found the family. He was told to kill anyone he saw on site but he had other ideas. So he played with them, toyed with them, TORTURED them until the mother couldn’t stand it anymore and stood up to shield her children from the Captain. But this only fuelled his maniacal mentality.

The mother begged the man to stop it, but stop he did not and he then beat the mother, over, and over, and over again, until not even the whisper of air could be heard from her lifeless body. The man stood on her body, laughing maniacally, as he stomped on her whole body over, and over again.

An unforgivable act was performed and all that the children could do, was watch, as their mother was beaten over, and over again. After the man was done with their mother he looked over at the children with a crazed smile as he smeared the blood of their mother over his face. He walked over to the daughter who was bawling her eyes out but then, something clicked inside the little’s boy head, something that shone so brightly that the man dropped the little girl but it was not out of interest, but out of FEAR.

The man’s cruelty and despicableness had awoken something inside the little boy and the monster hidden within him had come out. Bright blue eyes, that radiated the shade of ice, an ice cold glare and an aura so powerful that it created a living blizzard around the boy. The man touched the blizzard with his fingers as to see what would happen. He screamed in pain as his fingers slowly started freezing in front of him but that was the first action he should have regretted. The boy lunged at the man and in mere seconds he was bulldozed out of the house and onto the snowy ground.

The man tried to move, but move he could not as his whole body was now frozen to the core, the man showed genuine fear in his eyes and like that the ice broke apart as his body did as well, the blizzard around the boy kept on growing and growing until everyone was alerted about the sudden freezing temperatures. The boy, faced with anger and rage, went unconscious, but his body did not, so he killed, and killed every single soldier he saw that made him feel this rage. The boy went on and on until he passed out and the terror was over. That day over 750,000 people and monsters died creating a massacre called the 'Frozen Terror'. After that day, the King of Hellfire was never seen again in the continent of Teuru and many believe that he locked himself in his Palace to this day. After that day, the familiars gave the power of Covenants to the people of Ennapta but they put restrictions on them, so that without a familiar no one would be able to use the full power of a Covenant and after that, they all returned to the Golden Lands, leaving the people alone to fight for themselves and only the few worthy of a familiar would be able to have a chance at gaining the full power of a Covenant. Yet to this day, no one has been able to access the full power of their Covenant.

“Well, thank you for your attention in today’s History class, remember that I set an assignment that is due in a week, you all got that?” Miss Floydon said in her gentle voice. Miss Floydon was a beautiful woman dressed in black, brown heels, beautiful, purple eyes, long, black hair and porcelian skin.

“YES, MISS FLAYDON” the whole class shouted together. Everyone in the class stood up and started packing away their books.

“Hey Melia, what are you doing now?”

“Hmm? Oh hey Evangeline” Melia responded, smiling. Evangeline looked at Melia. Melia had long, crimson red hair, eyes like fire, bright red fingernails, she wore a red shirt with a brown skirt to her knees and black shoes, and her hair was tied back by an emblem representing a phoenix.

“I was asking what are you going to do now” Evangeline asked. Melia looked back at Evangeline who is a beautiful girl with blonde hair, green eyes, small lips. She was wearing a beige jumper with a necklace of a dolphin around her neck painted in silver, a brown skirt down to her knees and black shoes.

“OH, I’m just going to go back home now as school is finished for me so I thought I might go home and train with my brother some more” Melia responded whilst packing away her books into her bag.

“Oh cool, can I come along with you, I have to go that way anyway since I’m pretty sure my home is on the way” Evangeline responded.

“Yeah, let’s go” Melia said, smiling. The two exited the classroom and made their way into the busy corridor.

“Did they change the corridor?” Melia asked. Evangeline looked at Melia confused.

“No, not really. But they did add the notice board and the student board” Evangeline said whilst pointing at the board on their right. Melia looked around the corridor they were currently walking through and saw that the blue colour of the corridor seemed to have been brighter. Then, all of a sudden, Melia jumped and face palmed.

“OH YEAH, I completely forgot. Now that I think about it my brother is taking part in the tournament” Melia said, shocked that she forgot.

“OH WOW, I forgot that your brother is at that age know, I’m kinda jealous of you to be honest though” Evangeline said.

“What, why?” Melia responded, confused, as they exited the school and entered the city grounds. Evangeline stepped onto the cobble path and thought about it for a second as she placed her finger on her mouth.

“Well, your brother is the youngest swordsman ever to become a master in swordsmanship and don’t get me started about how your father is the KING of the VEIL Kingdom, he’s unlocked his covenant, mastered it, AND he’s a master swordsman” Evangeline said, extravagantly.

“I mean, yeah, I guess so. But like, I’m so used to this lifestyle that I don’t really think about it anymore or how lucky I am” Melia said, scratching her head.

“that’s too bad because I wish I had something similar to yours, my family isn’t anything close to that of a noble family, we are just an ordinary family compared to yours” Evangeline said.

"Well that’s what I like about you, you know. You don’t act all high class around me or try and bring me flowers, buy me chocolate, ask me out on wonderful trip to the outside world and all that crap. I have a sense of normality around you, I guess is what I’m trying to say” Melia said. After hearing Melia’s words Evangeline couldn’t help but hug her dear friend firmly and tightly.

“Thank you, Melia” Evangeline said, hugging Melia.

“Yeah, yeah, I know” Melia said, whilst hugging her friend back.

“OH YEAH, when do you want to meet up tomorrow so we can walk over to the Arena for the tournament?” Evangline asked as she pushed herself of Melia with her hands on Melia’s shoulders.

“Oh yeah. Do you want to meet up around 10:00 at your house?” Melia suggested which made Evangeline look at Melia with excitement.

“Yeah, let’s do that!” Evangeline replied. They continued on walking and chatting and after a while they slowly realised that they had arrived at Evangeline’s house. Evangeline turned around to look at Melia.

“Well, this is me” Evangeline said, smiling. They both hugged each other, tightly, one more time.

“You better be here tomorrow at 10 or I will not be happy you know” Evangeline exclaimed.

“Yeah, don’t worry. I’ll make sure to be here by 10” Melia said, smiling.

“BYE Melia!” Evangeline shouted, excitingly, as she let go of her friend and opened the door to her house.

“Bye Evangeline” Melia said, smiling as Evangeline shut the door to her house leaving Melia alone to walk back to her home.

After leaving Evangeline at her home Melia made her way towards the Royal Palace. She walked through many streets covered in food markets selling fruit and veg, blacksmiths welding swords and spears into shape, a clothes tailor who sold beautiful silk and cloth clothing, and houses made from smooth, luxurious wood with hip roofs and clean, pristine windows on the first and second floors. Most of the houses were separated from each other but Melia kept on walking through the cobble layered streets. As she continued on during her leisurely walk she bumped into someone.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

"Ah, I’m sorry miss” the little boy said looking up at Melia.

“It’s okay, just make sure when you are having fun that you check where you are running” Melia said, smiling, looking down at the little boy.

“Okay, thank you miss. BYE!” the little boy shouted as he ran off with his friends down the cobble path. Melia smiled as she watched the boy run on and continued walking towards the Royal Palace.

She eventually found herself in front of the Royal Palace stairs. She stared up at the stairs that expanded far and wide, surrounded by pillars of stone representing the 4 royal kings and their representative Covenant with King Voydrick with his Covenant of Fire and his Phoenix familiar. King Enhant with his Covenant of Air with his Skarard familiar a large monster with four wings and two claws on each wing, two long legs that held three sharp talons and it had a small head but many sharp teeth and could, apparently, summon tornados with just one screech. King Ishta with his Covenant of Earth and his Diplodocus familiar, an ancient creature from the books that stood as one of the tallest animals to ever walk this land. And last of all King Luim with his Covenant of Water and his Leviathan familiar. These were the four Kings of the VEIL Kingdom.

As Melia made her way up the stairs she noticed they were made from refined quartz and also silver, lining that was melded into the railing at both sides of the stairs. Huge trees and greenery could be seen on both sides of the stairs filled with colour and life. The Palace itself was a humongous building painted in red and lined in gold, with stone statues depicting Phoenices rising from death and being reborn again. Melia continued her journey up the stairs facing the gigantic Palace and came face to face with the Palace doors. Doors that were the size of giants, coloured in red and lined in silver. The door handles, made from silver, were settled inside the gaping mouth of a silver lion.

Melia touched the handle, pushed them open and the doors slowly swung open, revealing a large room with a red carpet rolling all the way to where there were four thrones that stood tall.

As she entered the throne room she noticed that the inside itself was bright and filled with chandeliers on the ceiling made from glass and the shine created from them radiated so brightly that they lit up the room beautifully. Statues made from polished marble depicting the original kings of the VEIL Kingdom as well as a floor made from polished quartz. Melia looked towards the throne and saw that there were banners of each Kings Name and a picture depicting their Covenant that were hung above each throne. Each throne stood tall and wide, made from pure polished gold. A red carpet was laid out in front of King Voydrick’s whose was all the way to the left, a blue carpet for King Luim next to King Voydrick’s, a green carpet for King Iluman, and a brown carpet for King Ishta, who was all the way to the right, were laid out in front of each throne that suited each King.

‘looks like a lot has changed around here, I don’t remember there being this many chandeliers in the throne room. Looks like they are also putting up more banners for the Kings though' Melia thought to herself.

“Melia, is that you!?” Melia heard a voice calling to her from behind her. She turned around to see a familiar face.

“Hm? DAD?” Melia responded, surprised.

“yeah, it’s me sweetheart. If I knew you would be coming here I would have went to pick you up from school” King Voydrick responded. Melia looked at her father, King Bradamis Voydrick, a very tall man with rough, white skin, crimson red hair, red eyes, and had a brown, full beard. He was wearing the specially produced royal robes of the Voydrick family which were made out of a special silk that was taken from the Gargantuan spiders in the forest outside the VEIL Kingdom and were then mass produced, creating a smooth yet impenetrable texture. On the torso, Melia noticed a picture of a phoenix that was stretching its wings out. The robes are coloured in a deep crimson red and a bold gold colour.

“Hey Dad, I was wondering where Malian is” Melia asked, looking up at him.

“Your brother? He’s down at the training grounds getting ready for tomorrows tournament. God I can’t wait for that, it’s the biggest thing that happens every 5 years and the whole Kingdom gathers round the Arena for a fabulous show” Bradamis explained, excitingly.

“Okay, I was about to go there anyway to train, but thanks for the heads up dad!” Melia shouted as she ran off into the hallway passage that was behind Bradamis.

“Goodbye Darling, take care and don’t hurt yourself, you hear me!?” Bradamis shouted.

“YEAH!” Melia shouted back, far away now.

“She’s grown up so fast” Bradamis said to himself, smiling, whilst looking at his little girl run down the corridor to the training grounds. Melia arrived at the training grounds panting and noticed that her brother was training with his sword. Her brother Malian was a well-built man, tall with red, short hair, red eyes, and a phoenix emblem on his shirt.

“MALIAN!” Melia shouts as she walked over to him, waving.

“Whoa, hey kiddo, how you doing?” Malian responded, surprised, seeing Melia in the training grounds. Melia, excited to see her brother, ran up to him and hugged him tightly.

“I missed you so, so, so much, Malian!” Melia said in a giddy voice.

“Yeah, me too kiddo, you came here to train or what?” Malian responded, patting Melia’s head.

“Mhm, can you help me train Malian?” Melia asked whilst hugging Malian.

“Yeah sure let’s do it, you want to spar?” Malian responded. Melia nodded in agreement. The two siblings took their sides on the training grounds and started focusing on the other opponent. Malian smiled at Melia whilst Melia tightened her face so she could concentrate to try and track any sudden movement that her brother made.

“YOU READY!?” Malian shouted at Melia.

“YEAH!” Melia responded. And like that, Melia rushed her brother, swinging her sword from above her head downwards straight at Malian who managed to avoid it swiftly. She swung her sword at every possible angle that she could but Malian managed to block and avoid them all.

“Well done. Seems you’ve gotten better since the last time I fought you” Malian said whilst blocking her attacks.

“This is only the beginning” Melia said as she backed off clashing with her brother and raised her sword above her head. Her sword lit up on fire as her eyes gleamed like a wildfire and her steps became burning hot, leaving an orange fire behind. Melia smiled with joy as she started running at Malian with her full force.

“Impressive Melia, I see you’ve been training as hard as I have, but you’ll have to try harder than that to take me down” Malian said as he raised his sword.

“Yeah and I wanted to show you brother, now here I come” Melia shouted. Almost instantaneously, she shooted forward covering all the space between her and her brother and launched her sword at Malian with her full power in quick succession. Malian recognised his sister as powerful and started to launch his own quick succession of attacks which overpowered Melia very quickly and sent her flying across the training grounds. Out of the cloud made from dust, Melia revealed herself to have been able to take the combo from her brother whilst panting and breathing heavily with bruises revealed on her left forearm and right hand.

“You okay sis?” Malian asked, smiling at the now tired Melia.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine, you got me really good Malian, that hurt real bad. Are you sure you haven’t gotten any stronger since last time?” Melia responded still panting and breathing heavily.

“I mean have I been training for tomorrows tournament and I do intend to win it my dear sister, but that combo that you did nearly got to me you know, that was some really good swordsmanship you got there, my dear little sister” Malian responded, proudly.

“Thanks Malian, I think I’ll take a break now and go to my room before dinner and have a shower, you okay with that?” Melia asked, exhausted.

“Yeah go for it Melia, you deserve it” Malian responded as he snickered at Melia’s remark. Melia left the training grounds and moved through the corridors of the palace until she reached her room. She opened the doors to her room only to reveal a large room containing a massive bed lying in the middle of the room that had its own custom curtains made of a see-through red silk. A blue carpet was sprawled across the whole room, tall windows with hung curtains made of velvet. Melia thought to herself that she needed to take a shower so she headed for the bathroom and showered. After her shower, she left her bathroom, and got dressed in her room as she walked over to her wardrobe. As she was finishing getting dressed she checked the time.

“Wow, its already after 19:00. Guess I should get dressed quick and run over to the dining room”. Melia rushed over to the dining room in the Main Palace and she swung open the door in time to see her brother and dad sitting at a table covered in a white, patterned cloth, with candelabras of pure white placed around the table that were lit creating only a noise of fire, flickering ever so often. Bradamis was seated at the front of the table and Malian was seated on his right. The table was filled with an aroma of foods spanning from glorious turkey and juicy chicken to the steaming hot potatoes, carrots, salad and fish. The table was a goldmine of food and Melia quickly sat down with a smile on her face as she drooled over the amount of food that was presented in front of her now awestruck face.

“What’s the rush darling” Bradamis asked, smiling whilst looking at his daughter fawning over what she was seeing.

“Sorry dad, but I’m really hungry and I didn’t know we were going to have a banquet today, may I ask why the occasion?” Melia asked, smiling.

“Well, since tomorrow is the big tournament of the VEIL Kingdom and our Malian over here is competing for the title of strongest and youngest among those around his age, so I thought that it would be nice to celebrate. The tournament is a big deal in the Kingdom as it not only shows the power that the Kingdom has but it also shows how much our young ones are growing and developing themselves. Also the winning warrior gets a special medal as well as a personal gift from me and the other three kings that will change their life. And such a change will be kept a secret until tomorrow when our winner is revealed” Bradamis responded casually whilst picking up a piece of steak.

“Aw, no fun Dad, you have to tell me, please, please, pleeeeeaaaaasse?” Melia pleaded, putting her hands onto the table.

“No. You’ll find out tomorrow, now as for Malian, I think congratulations are in order my son” Bradamis said looking over at Malian.

“Yes, I agree Father” Malian responded whilst Melia pouted, going back to eating her potatoes.

“Don’t worry Melia, in due time you will also be able to take part in the grand tournament of the VEIL Kingdom and when you do I guarantee that you will be one of, if not, the strongest fighter in the VEIL Kingdom, I promise you that. So don’t worry about it and enjoy the show with your friend, her name was Evangeline wasn’t it?” Bradamis asked, smiling whilst looking at Melia.

“Yeah” Melia said, still pouting.

“SEE. And if anything happens whilst the tournament is going on you have me and the other four kings on the side in case of some kind of trouble, okay?” Bradamis said in a gentle voice.

“Okay, I’ll trust you dad. But you better promise me!” Melia said whilst pointing her fork at her father. Bradamis stood up and raised his silver cup.

“I swear on the oath of the Voydrick Family that I King Bradamis Voydrick will see my daughter in five years compete in the Grand Tournament of the VEIL Kingdom and see her win, that I do solemnly swear, good enough?” Bradamis asked, smiling, looking down at Melia.

“YEP, hehe” Melia smiled and laughed. Bradamis sat back down in his seat and looked over at Malian.

“So how confident do you feel about the tournament tomorrow Malian?” Bradamis asked whilst picking up a lump of steak.

“I feel fine, I’ve seen the power most my age have and its nothing compared to mine at full power so I can’t wait to have fun and show some cocky juniors and seniors how far apart we are. Also I get to see others fight as well, which will help me learn from them as well which I find amazing and definitely something worth doing as to pinpoint my enemies weak spots so I can focus on them during my match” Malian responded whilst picking up a piece of bread from the table, leaving Bradamis smirking.

“Well, just be careful and never underestimate your opponent I say as you don’t know their full potential and what trickery they can perform in the battlefield that can be played in your disadvantage, my dear Malian” Bradamis responded in a serious voice whilst looking over at Malian.

“Okay Dad, I’ll keep a lookout on my opponents and not underestimate them whatsoever, you have my word” Malian responded. The room fell silent yet again except for the candelabras fire that was twitching and flickering over and over again as well as the sound of utensils picking up their food as they scraped against plates made of ceramic. The clanking of ceramic could be heard as everyone finished up their flavoursome food, slowly wiping any sauce that was left on their cheeks with a napkin. The doors opened up suddenly as butlers started walking in to remove the plates, cutlery and the remaining food off of the tables and remove the silken cloth. After they got rid of everything, Bradamis stood up.

“Well this has been a lovely dinner but I have to get up quite early tomorrow morning so if you two want to linger anymore then feel free to, but I’ll be heading off then, goodnight” Bradamis said as he left the room quietly. Melia and Malian stare at each other for a second before the room fell silent yet again except for the silent flickers of the flames that were still fighting on the candelabras.

“So, what are you going to do now Malian?” Melia asked Malian.

“I’m also probably going to head of now to bed as I want to be up bright and early tomorrow so I don’t miss out on the beginning of the tournament as I am part of it and I don’t really want to fight my opponents half asleep because it’ll look even worse on them if they still lose, won’t it” Malian said, snickering along with Melia.

“Yeah, it wouldn’t be fair would it” Melia responded, smiling. The room fell yet again to silence. Malian looked up at Melia and noticed how her left hand was holding her right, nervously. He walked around the table and wrapped her around his arms tightly.

“It’ll be alright chump, you know how strong I am, I’ll win this tournament not just in honour but also for you and to show my dedication to you as your older brother, okay” Malian said, whispering into Melia’s ear.

“Mhm” Melia responded, quietly. Malian softly kissed her on the top of her head and freed her from his embrace.

“Should we go to bed now?” Malian asked, looking down at Melia who now looked up at him.

“Yeah, let’s go to bed” Melia replied, smiling. The two then exited the dining room, snuffling out the candelabras fire.

“Goodnight, Melia. If I don’t see you tomorrow morning I better see you at the Arena tomorrow” Malian said, smirking one last time.

“Don’t worry Malian, I will definitely be there to watch you fight” Melia said, reassuringly. Malian nodded in satisfaction and started walking the opposite way from Melia. Melia, calmly, made her way over to her room walking down the now dark and silent corridor. Eventually, she made it to her room and opened the doors, she saw her room being invaded by the glow of the moon. She silently walked over to the window and drew the curtains, shutting out the moon from her room. Melia got dressed into her white pyjamas as she slid into bed and went under her covers, warming herself up. She pressed her head into the pillow, closed her eyes and fell asleep into the night.
