The thing about fighting another dungeon is that first you need to actually find the other dungeon. Preferable before it finds you. The other problem being that they've had a thousand-year head start at least. Even if Logan is growing much faster than they did, which might just be wishful thinking, it's still a bit like a child trying to fight adults. Although perhaps he's been going about this all wrong. After all it wasn't the dungeons themselves that attacked the humans. It was the sapient creatures transported with the dungeons. To top it off he has no proof they regard the other races similar to how he regards the humans. Perhaps diplomacy is still possible. At least among the dungeons. Sure, two dungeons were already destroyed but that was a thousand years ago. Besides which no human has even been able to get near another dungeon in over 500 years. Plus, his great grandparents weren't even born yet, not to mention the fact that they lived in another world, so he had nothing to do with the other dungeons getting destroyed. He's not naive though so is still preparing for a fight.
While the recon teams continued their search, they began to notice that with the other races gone the wildlife had started to return. Logan couldn't tell how normal they were or weren't without making huge assumptions based on the name alone. Even if they did have names like shadow deer and wind fox that strongly hinted at magical abilities. For all he knew it was some weird naming thing and shadow deer were called that because they had black fur. There were snow leopards and sand cats where he was from after all, so it wasn't really fair to assume they were magical just based on the name alone. Not that it mattered because a new food source was a welcome sight either way. The small animals they were already catching were good, but more variety was always better, both for the soul and for the taste buds. He did have to advise them to wait at least a few years before hunting them though. In order to allow their populations to get reestablished in the area. They were a little reluctant at first being understandably tired of the same food all the time, but they eventually agreed to do as they were asked since the sanctuary's guidance had worked out so far. Luckily, since they are still arriving from wherever they were driven off to they should breed fast, or at least fast enough that they should be fully reestablished within a few years. This means that after just a few more years there should be plenty of meat of all varieties assuming they only hunt what they intend to eat.
Expanding was another matter altogether. Thanks to all the new people he was able to very quickly grab three more western expansions revealing a road running the entire length of his territory from his southern border to his northern border. Along with another 9 eastern expansions over the following weeks. Granting access to several more houses. As well as a few more farms which makes sense as the one farm he had wouldn't have been enough without dungeon mana boosting the growth rate and yield. Some of the buildings along the new southeast border appeared to be arranged similar to the houses in what he referred to as the residential area. They were only about half the size though, being 6 meters by 7 meters instead of 6 meters by 14 meters. He hoped the road along his western border meant that he was close to the edge of the city on that side but again he was hesitant to make any assumptions. He was still hopeful that there was at least part of a wall around the town he could use. Though, he was prepared to create a wall completely from scratch if he had to.
Meanwhile great strides were made in the field of ranged combat. It was discovered that by combining the right amount of life and water magic during the bow making process they could get a stick to bend and then snap back to its original shape the way they need it to. It took a while to fine tune. Too much water magic and the wood became a wet noodle. Too little and it either wouldn't bend at all or it would just snap in two before getting anywhere near the level of bend required. Even if you did get the water magic just right it was still basically a one-time use thing. That is until Yangus decided to try asking one of the life mages to lend a hand. Getting the amount of life magic just right took a lot more trial and error. Too much and the wood became too dense and sturdy. completely impossible to bend even a little. Too little and you may as well have not added any life magic. Get those two just right though, and you can successfully turn wood that isn't meant to bend into an effective bow. It's not quite up to the point where they can begin mass production, but the basic concept is there.

At the same time Siobhan has started to order soldiers to begin patrolling the area. Unlike before where they just had scouts acting as lookouts these patrols were a force unto themselves. Each one consisting of a veteran who had been with the sanctuary since the early days and 10 subordinates, as well as a life mage for support. There are even bonded lesser, normal, and dire wolves mixed in randomly. There were four patrols for each of the four cardinal direction. Each one having an 8-hour shift, so that only one patrol for each direction was active at any given moment. Realistically, they needed more patrols but even as young as she is Siobhan could tell that just this was stretching her forces thin. After all they still needed to be able to send back up in the event they actually encountered something. Of course, if it came to it, they could always retreat and let the sanctuary deal with the threat. She didn't want to rely so heavily on the sanctuary though. It had already given them so much. The least they could do, she thought, was help protect it. For Logan's part while he does want to protect every last person and therefore doesn't like the idea of them fighting outside his territory unless it's absolutely necessary, he can also understand them not wanting to feel helpless. After all these aren't the same scattered remnants of humanity that they once were.
With nothing much for him to do at the moment Logan wishes he had his body back, not the core but his actual body. That way he could sit on one of the benches Yangus made and just relax ... maybe take a nap. He used to consider naps a waste of time. However, in his current form he doesn't even have the ability to take naps. One of many things he found himself missing lately that he never thought he would ever miss. Not that he regrets anything he's been through to help the people of this world. He just wonders sometimes why he was given this task instead of say a military general or a mayor. Someone that would actually know what they're doing. In the back of his mind, he suspects its precisely because he doesn't want to be in control of anything that he was chosen. His job after all is to protect them not rule over them. A general would probably treat them like assets instead of like people, while a mayor would likely only care about those already in the sanctuary.
The next four months or so passed uneventfully. During this time Logan claimed another 30 eastern expansions as well as another 13 western expansions. Not exactly in that order though. In fact, it was when he got the last eastern expansion that something finally happened. Logan received another spawner. This one was a cat spawner of all things. The initial creature didn't look like much, but that was normal for such a low-level spawner. The creature in question was a house cat on steroids or perhaps a miniature cougar Logan wasn't exactly sure how to describe it. Either way the feral cat was about half again as big as a normal house cat but a lot leaner and more muscular. He quickly upgrading the new spawner to level two and gaining the auto spawning ability. After that he took some time upgrading it all the way to level 9. Along the way he acquired a cougar at level 3. At level 4 he got cougars that could dance in and out of shadows at will. Level 5 brought a tiger that was at least three times the size of a normal tiger. Once reaching level 6 he got a similarly huge lion, but this one had metal claws and an electrical aura that allowed it to temporarily stun enemies with each attack. Regardless of what it was actually called Logan decided right then that he would call this a taser lion. Level 7 gave him a flame lion which while not being able to use magic per say was itself constantly on fire without being affected by the flames. Thus, it could impart flame damage with every attack. Level 8 got him a frost lion which was exactly the same as the flame lion but with ice instead of fire. In fact, it looked as if it would freeze solid if it sat still for too long. Of course, this wasn't true, but it didn't stop them from resembling an ice sculpture if they sat or laid still for long periods of time. More interesting though was what he got when he was finally able to upgrade the spawner to level 9. It was a tiger with plants growing all over it. Looking at its stats he saw that along with being immune to poison it also possessed a healing aura being able to heal any friendly being within 3 meters.
