66th Day

66th Day, Year 135 of Helan Phorro Xamium

I, Moloj Phorro and Guardian Horskul ventured outside within our boundaries. While Horskul stood guard, Moloj Phorro and I tested the water, soil, and air. Like on Irrdnis, water, soil, and air contain life. Unlike Irrdnis, they all harbor dangerous quantities of toxic elements that will certainly kill us if we had no suit to wear. We originally thought the air’s toxicity was due to the crashlanding fire, but it does not appear to be the case anymore. What is making this alien environment so lethal? Was it always like this? Even with the fire and such toxic levels, we managed to spot and categorize fifteen different plants and animals. We would die unprotected, but how many plants and animals from Irrdnis would be able to live here?

I studied the stars after the setting of the sun. Most obvious, a single day on our home world is equivalent to two days on this planet. Referencing previous day and night patterns, and by looking at certain cosmic points, if anything is close to our cycles, a single year on Irrdnis is double the length of time on this planet.

By second daylight, I, Tonglok Phorro and Guardian Tempun were leaving the ship to perform some gravity and atmospheric experiments outside, when we were greeted by several examiners upon opening the outer hatch. They followed us at a safe distance as we made our way. We were conducting our studies, with myself requesting the aid of Tempun to help in the gravity experiments, and Tonglok Phorro working by himself on experimenting with the surrounding atmosphere. I was directing Tempun in some drop tests, when I realized most of the examiners were congregated around Tonglok Phorro and his equipment. Amazingly, they were allowing him to make physical contact as he let one of them hang on to his finger, which he lifted off the ground but not too high to avoid any possible accidents. The crawlers posted nearby didn’t seem to be in a mode of aggression. I moved towards Tonglok Phorro with Tempun close behind, but when we got close to him and the examiners, the crawlers directed their barrels at me. Tempun was going to raise his gun at the crawlers but I stopped him from showing any aggression. I continued watching the interactions between Tonglok Phorro and the examiners from a distance. He studied them and wrote notes on his tablet as they did the same. He let them look at what he wrote, which of course drew their curiosity towards the tablet. Eventually, the examiners left us, and we finished up our testing before heading back into the ship.

I, Tonglok Phorro and Moloj Phorro discussed what transpired and it was settled that Tonglok Phorro was to dedicate his studies fully on the examiners if it was to happen again. As for the gravity and atmosphere experiments, they do confirm my theory on why we feel slightly weighed down, sluggish, and achy following our arrival on this planet. The gravity has a greater pull and the atmosphere is thinner than on Irrdnis. The differences are just enough in where we can see possible joint and back issues if we stay on this planet for too long.
