Book 2: Chapter 29

The initial hour quickly came and went as they all stood around and talked. It didn't seem like anyone had taken Silas up on his offer and he was simply left alone in the room with his entourage. He had at one point knocked on the Stormbringer's panel but gave up after 10 minutes or so of no one answering. He returned to his room and after another 30 minutes or so of no one visiting him, Silas closed the panel and no one else at the meeting saw or heard from him again that meeting. The vote screen finally appeared and no one in the group bothered to return to their rooms, instead they all simply filled in their votes and brushed the screen away.

World Council

This vote is for whether or not a world leader should be elected in place of the current council. 40 votes are required to elect an individual, otherwise the council will continue as the government of Trenus.

The options are:

Silas.

Stormbringer.

Council.

Who the hell nominated The Stormbringer? All 30 votes to Council.

World Council

This vote is for whether or not a world leader should be elected in place of the current council. 40 votes are required to elect an individual, otherwise the council will continue as the government of Trenus.

The results are:

Silas: 9

Stormbringer: 6

Council: 50

The council will continue as the government of Trenus.

Who would nominate and vote for someone they've never met? Weird. Also, I guess Silas managed to sway some votes his way.

World Council

This vote is for whether or not the settlement founding restricted period should continue for another 4 months or not. There are 65 votes in attendance. You may cast each of your votes as you wish over the next hour. As soon as all votes are cast or a single option obtains a winning margin of votes, the vote will be concluded.

The options are:

Extend.

End.

Abstain.

Felix left Atalus' votes to Noah and voted abstain for The Stormbringer. A few minutes passed since the screen appeared and the vote concluded.

World Council

A winning margin has voted for Extend with 25 votes as 25 have abstained. It is now impossible for the other option to win so the vote is concluded.

The next vote will begin shortly.

Oh thank goodness we don't have to wait out the rest of the hour.

World Council

This vote is to decide on the first Trenus World Event. This Event will take place one month following this meeting and will last an indefinite amount of time. There are a limited number of slots to attend the world event and they will be offered to the first 10,000 people to hit D grade. The options for the world event are as follows:

Ancient Sanctum of Knowledge.

Vault and Tomb Raiding.

Natural Treasure Hunt.

Abstain.

You may request a description of each at will. You will have the next 1 hour and 52 minutes to cast your votes. As soon as a winning margin has voted, the vote will conclude and you will be free to leave.

Felix thought about using his Stormbringer votes to try and get the Sanctum, his preferred option, but ultimately decided against it and instead voted to abstain. Honestly, any of the options were fine for him and it didn't matter enough for him to reveal the whole Stormbringer thing or rather stir the pot. He just liked the idea of ancient knowledge and sanctums.

Felix let Noah dictate Atalus' votes, as always, and continued talking with Martin about planes. Over the course of the 4 months since the last meeting, Martin had run some tests and was more partial to the idea than he had been previously. It was also looking like it was going to be their only option for the time being considering how far the cities were from each-other. They only managed to talk for another 15 minutes or so when the vote ended.

World Council

A winning margin has voted for Vault and Tomb Raiding with 21 votes as 25 have abstained. It is now impossible for the other option to win so the vote is concluded.

Can I leave yet?

World Event

In one of the early integrations there was a man who rose to power very quickly through the use of techniques and abilities that many feared. He and the city he built, became a powerhouse of the universe. They traded with and even sometimes fought the other cities in the multiverse conquering some that had existed for eons. His city lived peacefully and the citizens he ruled over prospered under his protection and tutelage. He made sure to help each individual grow and achieve their potential with training, artifacts and any knowledge he managed to get his hands on through his escapades. This man's name was Erolan.

The peace didn't last and their city expanded their reaches, turning to conflict over trade in more and more with each passing day. Erolan fought both with the people he raised and the beasts he trained, utterly undefeated on his path of conquest. Eventually though, a group of 5 individuals who frowned upon his methods laid siege upon his city making their way through all four walls and finally reaching Erolan's chambers at the center of the town. The war completely ravaged the population of the city. No one bore witness to the final battle, all that is known is the result. Erolan was sealed in his tomb, beneath the city, the five individuals no where to be found.

In an effort to protect the vast wealth and treasures he had amassed, Erolan spread everything throughout the city hidden in caches, vaults and coves. Erolan has now lay sealed away for a couple hundred integrations as his city remained untouched. Erolan's tamed beasts among other monsters still roam the city, protecting the wealth of their master. You, the citizens of Trenus will be allowed to search the city and retrieve anything you find though, be wary of the beasts roaming the city and protecting it's treasures.

Warning: Be wary, Erolan was at the peak of the C grade when he was sealed and the five individuals who finally managed to end his reign were in the mid B grade. Some of the beasts he left behind may be too powerful for any of you to handle, proceed with caution.

Note: Opening the vaults and caches will require more than just raw power. It would be wise to bring a large array of professions and skill sets to be able to handle the vast set of defenses Erolan employed throughout the city.

Woah… I wonder what he did that people disagreed with so vehemently they felt the need to send 5 B grades to finally take him out. Doesn't seem like anyone cared that he conquered cities, just his "methods."

Guess we'll find out.

Felix bid his farewell to Martin and the others then initiated the teleport.

Teleport.

He arrived, with Nova still napping in his robe, in the middle of the field just as he had left it. He still had a day or so to wait until he could teleport back to his tower so he decided to stop by Henry's to see if he could get a head start on vault breaking tools. He flew through the field and over the walls of the city, two of them, that Noah had put in just recently. He dropped down from the sky right on Henry's doorstep and knocked on the large metal door. A few moments passed before a sweat covered Henry finally opened the door.

[E - Common] Human (Lvl 100)

"Felix, I'm not done with the cannon yet… if that's why you're here?"

"Nope. You hear about the world event?"

"Yeah, Noah told me. Told me we might need some tools."

"Yeah, there were three options, the one that got voted in was Vault and Tomb Raiding…" Felix shared the backstory for the event as best he could remember it with Henry.

"So what are you looking for from me? I suspect Noah will have me working on things for the city pretty soon so you probably don't have more than a day or so."

"I think just a hand drill if we can make one out of Starmetal? I'm open to other suggestions too if you have any, you are the expert on metals and stone here. What do you think would be the best way to break into a vault, through a wall or into a tomb?"

"Honestly? A blowtorch for most things. I suspect along with the spell you used on the Starmetal, you should be fine. As long as it's not underwater again…"

"That actually makes a lot of sense."

"By the way, I have metal identification skills as part of my profession… It's got another more common name instead of Starmetal, apparently this is usually called Soul-Steel."

"Soul-Steel? Did it tell you anything else about it?"

Wait, Soul-Steel? Are you sure? Is he sure?

You really want me to ask?

No. Shit, I should have realized sooner, or we should have at least tested it.

Explain later?

Yeah.

"Not really. Says it's real hard and it might require special techniques to work with it. The spell you gave me helped a ton, it makes the material workable sure, it also did wonders for leveling my profession. I just need one more level on my class before D grade."

"Glad to hear it. You better hurry up then, only D grades are allowed into the world event."

"Really?"

"Yup. First 10,000 to hit D grade get an invite."

"Damn. Any idea how many slots are left?"

"I assume most of them. Judging just from the world council meeting, I would guess just under a few hundred or so slots have been taken. However, I think there are a lot of people in the same situation as you, right on the edge."

"Alright, thanks for letting me know. So what did you want me to try and make for you?"

"You know what? Don't worry about it. Just get yourself to D grade as fast as possible."

"You sure? I should have some time today."

"Yeah, don't worry about it. Good luck."

Felix walked to the door of Henry's workshop and started opening it then thought of something and turned around, "Actually, any chance you could whip up some plates for me?"

"Uh… Like… for food?"

"Oh no, sorry. Barbell plates."

"OH! That makes a lot more sense. I take it you need them to be pretty heavy?"

"Yeah, I'll use my staff as the bar for now. It should be able to hold up to any amount of weight I can lift."

"How heavy do you need them?"

"What's the heaviest material you've got?"

Felix and Henry spent a few hours finding the right material and forging it into plates with a staff sized hole in the middle. Henry had a large stockpile of D grade materials in his shop that he had been acquiring and forging with over the last few months. He had upgraded his profession to Arcane Smith, not bothering to do all three upgrades at once since he still wanted to be a Smith. Once he had upgraded his profession, he capitalized on being able to forge D grade materials and made a lot of money. Unfortunately, that was what delayed his race and class evolution for so long.

One of the D grade materials Henry had in stock was called Petralt, according to his metal identification skill. It was a naturally dark green metal with a slight luster, not quite reflective though, and it was exorbitantly heavy which was perfect. Henry hadn't really found any uses for it as it didn't have any other particularly interesting properties so he forged Felix a couple dozen plates. He made the mold out of some sort of wet looking sand and simply poured the metal into it which made the whole process super fast. The plates weren't polished or even finished by anyone's standards, but that didn't matter at all for Felix's use case. The plates were each a couple inches thick and Felix suspected they would last him quite a while, or at least he hoped they would.

It was hard to measure as everything's weight was different than it was before the integration but if Felix had to guess, he would say Petralt was a bit denser than lead. Henry tried to get Felix to take the plates for free as he had no use for the Petralt anyways but Felix insisted and payed him 100k E grade credits. He wasn't sure how much D grade materials were worth, but he hoped that was enough.

Felix didn't bother with plates of lower weights as he would simply use enchantments and spells to increase the weight between the plates. He thought about using spells and enchantments for all of the workout equipment but he didn't feel safe pointing a large amount of force at himself with a spell. With the plates, the force spell he used to increase the weight between each plate would be tiny in comparison. Maybe once he had out grown the plates he would be comfortable just using a spell, but for now he figured the cost was minimal so he might as well. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
