Chapter 24: Long talk

Chapter 24: Long talk

I gave Momona a green potion and several rectangle shaped things that I thought might be a phone.

Momona downed the potion and took a few minutes to rest. She tried to calm me down the whole time by playing off what happened.

My Angel also apologized to Momona and received forgiveness via head scratches.

I went off to the bathroom to wash the blood of my face, but Momona kept talking to me. "It was a bad idea on my part to both wake you up alone and without food."

"How were you supposed to know I would try to drain you in my sleep?" I replied as I tried to wash her blood off my face. It was not going well until I used the stuff she used on me earlier.

"Echo mentioned that you had an urge to feed on her, which really surprised me because vampires can't eat food, but you ate a potato and a liver no problem so I wrongly assumed you would be fine until brought to the kitchen." I glanced over to Momona. She was digging through the rectangles for her phone until she grabbed a plane of plastic glass and made it light up. So that's a phone.

Now that I wasn't freaking out about almost killing Momona, I didn't feel nearly as sore as I thought I would. I was walking just fine, and my head only had a weak thrum of pain.

I went to take the bandages on my shoulder off and registered that Elpis is now so large that she covers my shoulders and chest. "When did you get that big?"

"Could you get off of me for a bit? I need to shower." Elpis didn't respond, so tapped them several times to try and rose them, but even that didn't work.

I should ask Momona. I walked into her speaking to someone over the phone. I couldn't quite hear what the other was saying, but it was easy to hear her.

"Yeah, could you over soon? She'll need to wash off all of the muck from her jaunt with you before we show her around, but I would like to talk to a bit before we leave."

It was someone from full moon based on what she said. "What are you talking about?"

"Ah! Echo and I were going to show you around to help you get your bearings. I hope that's fine." Momona got up and would have fallen over if I didn't catch her.

"Are you sure you're going to be able to like this?" I sat her down on the bed and watched as held her head with a confused face.

"I'm not sure why I'm still woozy. The potion should have replenished my blood, and you stopped the bleeding."

I bit my lip as I stared at her. It wasn't out of hunger, but worry about what I might have done to them. Momona noticed my worry. "I told you I'm not upset. Don't worry."

"But..." I didn't know if I wanted to share my experience with Tanny or just keep quiet.

Momona's demeanor shifted slightly as I struggled to say it. "Do you know something I don't?"

"I'm worried that just blood loss isn't the only concern."

"Do you think you have a disease?" I almost felt offended at the question before I remembered where I came from.

"I literally escaped a human testing lab. I don't have high hopes, but that's not it." I sighed and thought of the best way to put this without saying i might have turned you into a monster.

"I had a dream where I was taught how to taint something and consume it to change it." I removed Tanny from the explanation, hoping it would help, but her reaction told me it wasn't great.

Momona face flickered between disbelief and horror. "And you consumed me. So I'm changing?"

I shook my head and explained what I thought. "No, I think you would be very different and not just woozy. I gave you some of my blood and put you back since it felt wrong."

She froze and gaped at me before yelling. "So when I felt a searing warmth on my neck that went away shortly after... that you was claiming my damn soul?!"

I flinched at her exclamation and nodded timidly. I really didn't like the phrasing of claiming someone's soul, but I didn't know how else to put it. "P-probably."

She took a deep breath and calmed down frighteningly quickly. "You don't know what's going to happen, right?"

"No I-" My heart felt something burrowing into it and spread out like roots. It really hurt, but the pain was surreal and felt half fake.

I screamed under the pain, but it went away before I could scream anymore, turning into a weight on my soul that faded into almost nothing. "What's wrong!?"

You have marked 'Momona Telldor' as your second knight.

"Uhhhhhhh." I stared dumbstruck at the message. Wait, why second knight? I never did this before?

"A knight? What the hell is this?" I turned to Momona, who was staring at open air, probably at her own message prompt.

"You see it too?" Momona looked at me and back to the air a couple of times.

Momona stopped frowning, and a grin crept on her lips as she turned to me. "So should I call you my lady then?"

I cringed at the name and decided I didn't need to hide my name from her because I basically claimed her. "I... Call me Marri when we're alone or when I'm not in saint mode, I guess."

Momona nodded, then seemed annoyed. "Wait, why would you make the two names so similar, and does anyone else know?"

"Coincidence mostly. Mera is just short for chimera since Yggdrasil called me that. Also, yeah, all of full moon knows." I replied then remembered why I came to talk to her in the first place.

"Why not something a bit longer then?" Momona wanted to tease me some more, and the suggestion wasn't a bad one, but my priorities were elsewhere at the moment.

"Could you check on Elpis? They aren't moving." Momona stopped teasing me and focused on Elpis for a moment.

"Their just sleeping." Momona said in a calming tone that I was starting to think was her default tone.

"Then why can't I wake them up?" I gently slapped Elpis, and we watched them jiggle but still not wake up.

"Slimefolk are almost impossible to wake up without hurting them. Why do you want to wake them up? Are they too heavy?" Momona glanced over to my panther, who was leaning into me, trying to get me to pet her.

I relented and petted her head. "No. I need to take a shower, and I don't want to hurt her with soap."

"Ah, good point. Let me help you get her off after I get a place to put her." Momona got up again, surprising me at how much better she was walking after a few minutes of sitting. Has to be Yggdrasil.

I opened my status to see what changed. I assumed I probably got something in that last fight before I entered the bunker.

I grimaced at how high my hunger was, but I was happy at how many points I had now.

I swiped the status away and started looking for clothes in the shop to change into after the shower I'll have.

I really didn't want cheap clothes that broke down after a few minutes. I'm not sure I can blame the clothes.

I unconsciously asked for durable clothes, and the store popped out a tab with the search. I couldn't bring myself to be creeped out anymore and just kept looking with the new selection. The clothes had an extra durable mark on them with a price of 2 to 5.

I glanced at the skirts and made them go away, same with panties. I don't like them... I wish I knew why, though.

I selected something named Sport Underwear, saw a preview, and liked it more than panties that barely covered anything.

I pick some black sweet pants and a T-shirt with a gold depiction of a Greek chimera. A black hoodie with a red inner layer was my next pick. Oh, I need shoes, don't I?

The last thing I got was some black and red sneakers and long purple socks. I hope I didn't overdo it on layers.

The total cost of everything came to 13, and I pulled it out of my angel's mouth without warning her. She gave me a dirty look, I chuckled and said I wouldn't do it again.

I put the clothes in the bathroom as Momona finally came back with a small tub that had a little water in it. "Alright, one makeshift Slimefolk bed coming up."

"Why the water?" I watched Momona peel Elpis off of my chest then staggered under the weight of the slime.

"God, you were carrying them this whole time? So heavy... Right. Slimefolk needs some moisture to sleep and heal properly. They were using you for that and will probably continue to do so when they wake up because you're her only way to recover." We finished putting Elpis in the tub. I wondered what she meant by that, but I wanted to clean myself.

The sound of footsteps outside the room perked me and my panther to alertness. I tensed when a knock came from the door.

Momona glanced at me with concern and went to answer the door. "It's Echo, Marri."

I calmed down a bit at that, and the rest of the way when I saw it really was her. She was wearing the tan trench coat and actually had the top popped open so i could clearly see her face. "Hey Mona! So what... what happened?"

I winced at the look of concern Echo gave Momona and hoped I didn't ruin my connection with her. I was about to tell her what happened myself but Momona spoke over me. "Hey Marri, why don't you take the shower now? I'll explain things to her and make sure there aren't misunderstandings."

I hesitated for a few seconds, but I nodded and went to take a shower. Leaving them to talk about what happened.
