Chapter 1: The Fractured Lab

Chapter 1: The Fractured Lab

"Alright, class, why are Saints vital to Starlight City?" My teacher called out to the class with his usual way to cheerful voice and wide grin.

A student raised his hand. "Because making and recharging magtec is impossible without them!"

He clapped his hands as a slide popped down behind him with three images on it. "Very good, James! Yes, mana infused technology or the nickname you called it, magtec, is the main reason we are where we are today. Let's take three examples before we move on to the next reason Saints are vital!"

The first image he gestured to showed a car with yellow light billowing out from underneath. "The first piece of magtec is the car it has gone through a massive change from being a land vehicle to air given to us through the Saints!" Next an engine with glowing blue lines all over it. "Second piece of magtec is the magic generator the main source of power in the city by turning the mana given to it by Saints directly into electricity." He enlarged an image of a large with green light emanating from it to cover the whole slide. "And finally, the third piece of magtec, we all know this one, the fracture bunker! It's one of the first pieces of magtec ever made for obvious reasons!" He watched as everyone wrote down notes with his gaze going to me a few times as I took my own.

After we finished taking notes, he spoke up again. "Now then! why else are the Saints vital? I'm looking for two more answers."

I raised my hand at the same time as someone else. he looked me and then pointed to the other student who spoke. "Magical girls also participate heavily in social charity projects, like cherry bomb!"

His grin twitched at the word magical girl before he clapped his hands and the slide switched to showing a few images of teenage girl in a red body suit with a tool belt pink hair in twin buns, with a smile on her face that looked... genuine? "How coincidental that you mentioned Saint Cherry Bomb. Since we'll be using her as a example but they do far more than that, jenn." One was her working in a soup kitchen, another was her putting out a large house fire with a bomb that only affected the fire, and her pinning a guy to the ground while pulling a purse out of his hands. What drove him to steal a purse? "Saints participate in almost everything involving helping people, although there are a few that focus on other things, which leads me to ask another question. What is the last and arguably most vital thing Saints do?"

I glanced around seeing no one raised their hands. He looked over everyone and then pointed me out. "You, answer the question."

I was annoyed, but I couldn't really talk back to him without getting in trouble. Why does he treat me like that? I answered, even if it was less excited than the others. "Saints hold off the fractals since they are the only effective force against the fractals and are the only ones who can close field fractures."

He snapped fingers showing two two people holding something, one clearly being a Saint wearing a pink dress and a tiara, she was holding a wand with a star at the end, and the other was a police officer in heavy gear holding a rifle but he had a X over him. "Correct, . Ordinary weapons stop working on fractals after they hit level 20 so even if a dragon tries to kill one or even if we use anti material rife on a level 20 or higher fractal, it would be completely unaffected... but Saints use weapons that nullify this resistance! Meaning Saints ether have to deal with fractals themselves or give the new seal force the weapons to do so. Which they try to do but it's incredibly expensive to give the weapons to other people and not to mention the low number of Saints compared to new seals in the first place, so it's been a very slow process."

"Alright now -" He was cut off by the bell that signaled everyone, including me, to start putting their notes into bags as he started to talk again. "Make sure to do some research on what else Saints contribute by next week... Oh, and before some of you do something stupid. It is very illegal to both go out of your way to find out and / or expose who a Saint is under their costumes unless you're given permission to by the Saint in question. Is that clear?"

Nobody looked up, but they gave a hardy response. Man, what should I look into? Whatever, my friend is waiting.

The teacher walked over to me as people started to leave. oh, great, this again. "Yes, teacher?"

...

God! I can't believe he suggested that! I was walking up staircases, frustrated, but I was still happy to meet .

I reached the top and saw a familiar door that I flung open and stepped out onto the roof. And was greeted by a long-haired girl waving me over with a radiant smile leaning against a railing on the roof, my best friend, ----. "----! You're here! You look upset, Did someone bother you?"

"No, no one bothered me. Just more assignments." I lied. I really didn't want to talk about it, and more importantly, I wanted to avoid getting her involved since I knew she absolutely would and probably get herself in trouble in the process.

"You got here earlier than me this time. Did you skip class or something to get here before me?" I shot back at my best friend to distract her as I jogged up to her since the roof was so big.

"What do you take me for? It just ended early." I laughed as I went next to my friend by the railing. Good, it worked. I'd rather have this time be relaxing.

I mean, who wouldn't with this view? I looked over the beautiful sight in front of my eyes for the thousandth time but it never made it less amazing as houses and buildings on tiny floating islands glimmered in a way that entranced me every time I stared at them, the constant traffic of hover vehicles on the highways in the sky that was always busy showing how alive the city is, buildings on the ground didn't disappoint either as they glowed with magic lights that always drew my eyes to them.

"Do you know what you're gonna do after this?" She caught me off guard with the question, making me turn to her to see she was admiring the view as well with a small smile.

"Why do you ask, ----? We're " She gave me look and chuckled at my puzzled expression.

"I want to make sure we can stay close, so we should plan ahead so nothing unexpected would keep us apart." I got embarrassed for a moment, but it made sense. I mean, we'll probably never each other if she moves to a different city.

"I'm planning to send an application to Soch when I get out of school." Soch or Saint organization command helper was a pretty stressful job that required you to help Saint organizations cooperate with each other while giving them a plan if they didn't have one for emergencies already but I wanted to do it since .

She looked a bit confused about my answer before she let out a soft "Ah." Realizing why. "That makes sense, but wouldn't you want to become a Saint yourself then?" She seemed oddly serious when she asked me that.

"I can't exactly send Yggdrasil application, can I? I'm being realistic, but I don't think I'll be chosen anyway." I regretted my self depreciation pretty quickly when my friend got mad and started to scold me again.

"Stop saying stuff like that! You're the nicest and most selfless person I know! I mean even at the orphanage !" It took her 5 minutes of me apologizing and promising I would stop thinking that way to get her to calm down. I mean, it's not wrong right? But I guess it doesn't help to think like this either.

"So what if when both of us become Saints, we could fight the fractals and save people together!" She glanced to her side before adding. "o-or if only one of us becomes a Saint we can help them as a personal operator!"

I envisioned the two of us together, saving people and fighting off the monsters known as fractals with mystical abilities that seemed impossible to me or me giving her a plan through a earpiece to save as many people as possible. "That would be amazing... Although I can't imagine you being very good at planning and directing me."

She stared at me in shock and started to pout furiously. "How could you say that!?"

I looked at her and struggled not to laugh, but a grin was creeping onto my face. " You got lost at the mall yesterday and had to call me to get directions to the exit."

"W-well! Then let's promise group together when we become Saints so you can stop me from getting lost!" She was blushing from embarrassment as she held both of her hands together in anticipation of my answer.

I laughed my heart out and wiped the tears from my eyes as my cheek flushed slightly. I nodded my head happily giving her a smile to show her I was serious. "Of course, I would want nothing else!"

She hugged me, which made me extremely uncomfortable but couldn't push her away immediately since that be mean and I was concerned since she knew I didn't liked to be touched much she yet did it anyway. "----?"

She spoke in a low voice, giving more reasons to be worried. "I promise to -------."

The promise made me uneasy, but it made me swell with happiness at the meaning. This is the happiest day of my life, but... "W-what if I ?"

She squeezed me harder before looking me in the eyes with a sad smile as everything went white. "I know --- ."

I awoke to alarms blaring in my ears. It's so loud. I was having such a nice dream, too...

My mind was foggy like I was sleeping for months, and everything felt so stiff as I shifted to get myself awake before I realized something. I'm going to be late for school!

The mere thought fills me with dread, like a mistake I didn't want to go and make again. I won't get to see her if I'm... Who was she?

A memory of a long-haired girl smiling at me is seared in my mind, along with a warm feeling that came with a promise. She's my friend, but why is anything else about her lost to me?

I tried to get up but hit my head on glass, sending the feeling of pins and needles into my skull, forcing away some of the grogginess that kept me from thinking effectively. Wait, glass?

Glancing around myself to see metal surrounding me with a ceiling of glass, leaving barely enough to move around, giving way to the overwhelming need to get out of the box I'm in. Where am I?

I shifted my arms to push against the glass as I did. I heard something creak to my right, but it didn't budge much. I think if pushed harder, whatever is holding this closed will snap, hopefully anyway.

I pushed again, straining myself, but the metal cried, refusing to break and give me my freedom, making the need stronger. It's so close. Maybe if I shift to the right, it will give more leverage.

As I scooted to right and- *BANG* -Froze as what sounded like a bomb went off, and half a second later, yelling erupted next to me.

The yelling soon gave way to screaming, I tried to see what was happening but I could only see the ceiling from my spot, it had different colored pipes leading everywhere highlighting the porcelain white walls and ceiling only illuminated by red lights. There were people next to me?

I strained my hearing while attempting to listen, but the plate of glass and alarm were messing with it. What I did get is that there's no screaming next to me anymore and could barely hear something ripping. *splat*

The glass was splatted with something red that spread out, covering it. Is that... blood?

I couldn't hear the ripping anymore. I'll wait a minute before opening it.

The waiting felt like torture as the need of me wanting out got worse and pushed me to open it now, but I held off for maybe 3 minutes when I decided it's been long enough and started to push. *Creak*

I pushed harder, and the need to get out helped me ignore the pain in my arms that started to creep in. *Creeeak*

I pushed with all I could muster, making my arms feel like they were about crack as the metal started to give. *CreeRAK*

I stopped pushing, instead giving it a strong shove to finish off whatever was holding me here. *SNAP*

The lid flew open, hitting a wall next to her with a softened thud. My arms went limp on my belly as I took shuddering breaths. The familiar sent of blood in the air sent shivers through me with a mix of fear that wraps around my ribcage and hunger that gnaws away at my stomach. Why would blood make me so hungry?

I sat up only to gag at the sight of 3 eviscerated bodies with their innards spilling all around as an instinct told me to feed thumped in the back of my mind. I'm not eating that! What is wrong with me?!

My gaze was stuck on the bodies with a single word echoing through my head. feed feed feed.

Nope, not eating people. Tearing my attention from the corpses to look around the room lit in dim red lights. The room was not small, with it being quite large with it being about half the size of a school gym. Half the room was packed full of machines, with the only ones I could recognize being a centrifuge, a weird 3d printer, and several monitors around me. There were also tables covered in papers, microscopes, goggles, computers, test tubes full of weird substances, and more things I didn't recognize. My eyes landed on a grey metal door that was busted down with a single massive dent in it. I'm in a lab? Why the heck would I be here?

I need to get out of here before whatever killed them comes back. I ignored the disturbing instinct as best I could as I pulled myself out of the container I was in and noticed what was holding the lid closed, a bolt lock, a single metal cylinder the size of a pen was holding it closed and just below was a label saying "FC6".

My feet hit the ground following my knees, confused. I started to push myself up, and I noticed my arm's light shade of grey now instead of the lightly tanned skin I used to know. A horse, high pitched voice comes out of my mouth. "W-wha? I-i... what am I?"

It finally hits me how alien my body feels to me. My body feels smaller with my head barely reaching the tables around me, eyesight is sharper Allowing me to see very well in this awful dim red lighting, hearing is coming from somewhere on top of my head instead of the sides, canines are sharper and longer with something else I couldn't place, and my hair is dark red and, and... I have to think about the rest of this later.

Getting up, I stood on to shaky legs and walked, my legs quickly got more steady with each step. I could feel tears building up as I went towards the door at the other side of the room as my anxiety about myself took hold of me, unable to stop thinking about it. Can I even leave looking like this? Will I be mistaken for a fractal? Do I have to eat people now?

A low ding echoed in my head, making snap out of my line of thinking and looking around frantically before setting my sight on a window that made me stare slack jawed.

My heart thumped in my chest as I read over the word Saint, making me remember the dream I had before I woke up here. My promise... I made a promise to her, yeah, let's focus on that.

Thinking of the promise to her helped me to calm down, and focus on something other than my body and my urge to eat. So a fracture happened, and I think that explains some things like the alarm and bodies.

Reading over the rest of the quest pretty quickly, but the rewards had a weird addition, having a small revelation, I then looked down to confirm my suspicion. Yep, I'm naked. Why wouldn't I be? Focus, you need to focus... I don't even know my own name.

Shaking my head, I walked forward to the door and peeked out. Wall to my right and in front of me, and to the right is... a slaughter.

The hallway to my left went for a while before breaking off left and right. The far more noticeable feature was the dozen or so bodies spread out through the floor, a layer of very fresh blood covering any part of the floor that didn't have a body on it. Why are there so many down here?

Out of them, 3 were in much better shape than the others, with only one bad injury that led to them passing. Why the difference?

Glancing down showed paw prints are made of blood going into this room and out again on the tiled floor. A dog. What's a dog?

I took my first step out trying to again. I heard more bombs going off to the right as I walked to the nearest intact body, trying not to make any noise. What did this? I can't remember what fractals are in particular.

They were slumped against the wall wearing a loose black lab coat with a white shirt and pants that were stained with blood coming from a hole in his chest. I crouched down to take a better look for something I could use. Don't feel bad for them. I was a captive here. I'll probably be killed or caught again if I'm found by these same people.

I saw a card in his coat that said clearance 1, I took it and looked up and stared into the man's cold eyes with his horrifying expression stuck to him. I could feel my instincts telling me to feed as I looked at the man... I closed his eyes and got up. I think I'll call them researchers for now.

My bear feet landed into puddles of blood, making a sickening sloping sound each time I stepped in it. My stomach ached as I passed by the fresh meat- I mean researchers. I need to get out before I... Indulge.

I made it to the fork and heard another bang to the right, prompting me to go left And was greeted by another hallway with several doors, 2 of them having red doorframes and looked like they came in that by the fact of the door being in the hallway, The rest were out of sight. 4 eviscerated researchers were here this time. Eat it. I should retrace the way they came from, right?

I made my way to one of the red doorways. *Crunch*

My head turned to meet the horrible mockery of a dog that was bigger than me in one of the doorways ripping into a researcher. That's what a dog looks like?

It had no fur only slick blackish flesh, it's frame was so gaunt you would think it had nothing to eat in years, a jagged ribcage that poked through its own skin, a long tail covered in spikes that dripped blood, large claws on its feet, pitch black eyes that made me remember what ink and a void looked like, and a jaw full of glinting metal blades that held intestines. Nope, that's a fractal! Just leave before it notices me. Please don't notice me.

I backed up only for my foot to land in a bloody piece of clothing that made a squelch noise. It turned to me and let out a grow that I understood as 'Kill'. "Ah."

The fractal jumped at me as I broke into a sprint down the hallway. It missed me, instead hitting the wall with a thud. I glanced back and saw it was stunned from it. Does that mean it's fragile?

My blood-soaked feet slid on the floor as I tried to get in a room, grabbing the doorframe to stop myself from sliding, and pulled myself into the room. I heard the fractal starting to chase me. I need something to hit it with.

My eyes flick around the room before I dropped the card I was holding and started rushing to a table as the fractal slides slightly passed the doorframe slipping on blood as well. Shit shit shit.

I jumped up onto the table and grabbed a heavy microscope. I turned around, It was charging at me, forcing me to dive out of the off the table, landing on the microscope and I felt a rib crack from the fall. "Gah!" *Crash Shatter*

I could vividly feel where my cracked rib was and teared up at pain as I pushed myself up. turning to the hound, It stunned itself again. I rushed over to its head, lifted the microscope above my head with both hands, and brought it down. *Crunch*

The sickening sound of its skull caving to make room for the microscope came with a burning sensation in my heart, making that made me grin. Before I could pull the microscope out, I got sent flying by a spiked tail.

My body crashed into a machine, making my vision go pure red as my belly had sharp pain emanating from numerous skin deep holes made from the tail and my upper back was bruising badly it made me groan as it throbbed with pain. Could be worse, right? What is it doing now?

I stared at the fractal as it thrashed around violently, hitting machinery and tables yelping 'Can't see.' Over and over. The microscope seemed to crush it eyes as well when I bashed its skull. How do I kill it.

My eyes landed on the leg of a table that broke off, I picked it up and thought about killing it with wrathful fury before I realized what just I was thinking. I can't even get close with it doing that.

I glanced once more at the object I lodged in it brain and how the fractal was leaking a glowing red ichor as I looked over the room again and saw a red bag with a cross on it, next to the door. Handy, that's a first aid kit, right? My memory seems to be very haphazard about what it remembers.

I took a sharp breath as the pain redoubled, grabbing the first aid kit by the strap with my free hand before grabbing the card I dropped and stuffed it in one of the pockets of the kit as I left the room and made my way to a different one. I made sure to check if there was a fractal in the rooms I passed, so I didn't get jumped or caught off guard again.

I found a small room and went in. I used stool in the corner to place the first aid kit on. I placed the table leg to the side and opened the kit, and checked what was in it. 4 Bandage rolls, 16 gauze pads, a container of alcohol, 2 wound gel jars, 25 pain killers, and a... "Mag-Stim"?

The "Mag-Stim" was a red cylinder with a button on one end. I didn't have a clue of what it was in my mind, but it had instructions on the label, hurrah for instructions! "Place on thigh, button side up after basic medical treatment and press down on button to use. Prevents internal and external bleeding, reduces swelling and decreases time of healing of cuts and bruising, fuses any broken bones back together(not completely fixing), and replaces lost blood to a small degree. (Warning multiple uses in less than an 8 hour window of time runs the high risk of cardiac arrest!)" I'll hold off on this until I actually need to worry about bleeding out or broken bones.

I think I remember how to do this. I poured the alcohol on the wound, making me hiss at the burning pain as I asked myself a question to distract from the pain. Is there a reason that a reason they set up an underground lab instead of aboveground when they would have probably lived, since the Saints would have gotten in time to save most of the people here?

I rolled my eyes at the obvious question I just asked. Of course, it's underground. whatever they were doing to me probably wasn't legal, and they would have gotten arrested while the Saints dealt with the fracture. After all, heroes are stationed all around the city to reduce the time as much as possible when it comes to getting a Saint to a fracture.

My detailed my answer was to my own question only made me angry at myself. I put on the gel. It was red resembling my hair. It feels like pudding. I thought as I put it into my injuries. it also seemed to have a pain reducer in it as the pain dulled to point It felt more like a paper cut instead of getting stabbed all over. Why do I remember all that about Saint but nothing else about my best friend besides her smile and half a promise!

My vision started to get cloudy as I realized I was crying. I wonder if she's forgotten about me like I have with her. Wiping my tears away. I finished by placing 2 gauze pads over it all, then I wrapped around my stomach, using a whole roll of the bandage, and kept the pad in place.

The whole process took maybe 5 to 10 minutes. I closed the kit and slung it over my shoulder, letting it settle on my upper thigh. How small am I for it to reach my thigh? Or is the strap just that long? I'm so all over the place right now.

Everything was slowly fading out of pure red and back into the pale red coming from the lights as I peered out of the room and saw and heard nothing. Oh yeah, everything went red... everything earlier is probably wrong color wise.

I didn't bother to Correct my self on other things here soft as I grabbed my improvised weapon with my left hand and checked the hallway before stepping out and turned left heading to a red door way only to interrupted by a high pitched ding made me blink at a white window in front of me. What the?

[Congratulations, you have killed a Lv2 blade hound before even becoming a Saint! You will be given 1 skill point, 1 Stat point, and a T2 Soul bound shop ticket when you become a Saint.]

Curiosity got the better of me, and I checked where I left the fractal. it was slumped on the ground with glowing purple ichor pooled under it slowly losing said glow. "Oh, It bled out and actually has purple blood then? Yay?" I mumbled to myself, not really understanding the significance of any of those rewards.

The smell of the fractal started registering in my mind. It smelled vaguely familiar with rotting fruit being the next closest thing I can compare it to. It made my body ache to eat what was in front of me, even more than the people I passed. Should I? It's not a person. I remember understanding its sounds as words. I'm probably going to regret not doing this later. I took a shuddering breath while turning away to go to the way I had originally planned before I was interrupted.

I glanced through the red doorway to see another hallway with more broken-down doors and more corpses. I'm how many people were down here?

I checked in each room as I made my way to the next red doorframe. This one was also broken down in a similar manner as the last one. Glancing through showed another hallway. Color coded doors, fantastic.

I traveled down 2 more corpse filled hallways with me sneaking past few blade hounds that were distracted by the researchers they were tearing apart. Should I be horrified or grateful that their doing that?

"Hello? Is anyone there?" I flicked my head to a dark room ahead of me with shock at hearing a little boys voice call out in this place. Why would a kid be here?.. probably the same reason as me, a captive.

I hesitated for a bit about if I help them but I knew I didn't want to abandon a kid in this nightmare. I quickened my pace to get there faster, making slight slapping noises when my feet hit the floor. The room was dark, lacking the omnipresent emergency lights that I was growing used to. That might be why he's still alive, or maybe he's just stuck in the box.

Something felt wrong to me as I stepped into the dark room. My sight wasn't affected all that much by the darkness, but the lack of the emergency lights concerned me. "Hello? Is anyone there?" It sounded the exact same as before, but now that I was closer, it sounded off somehow, but that could be the alarms messing with my ears.

I followed the sound, and I peaked around a machine to see a box that was the same as the one I was in. But it was broken into that small bolt lock was shattered, and the lid was open. Why is it open? Wouldn't it be closed if he was calling for people?

I stepped closer and looked inside only to see a boy who was much smaller then me and he had the same grey skin as me but with blonde hair instead of my dark red, laying there with his eyes ripped out. My confusion ended up with me talking out loud. "What? Then who?"

"What? Then who?" My voice was repeated in a distorted tone above me. I felt my blood run cold as I quickly stepped back and felt wind whoosh passed my face, followed by something snapping shut. What was that! I can't see what did that!

I couldn't see anything in the room but now that I was focused on trying to find something, things started to piece themselves together like the sound of something scraping against the ceiling in opposite sides of the room, the smell of rotting fruit tickling my nose, and the general sense of something dangerous was humming in the back of my mind. I can't stay in this room. The fractal is camouflaged or something, and I think there's more than one.

I back peddled to the door, trying not to trip when I heard the boy's voice again to my left. "Who's there? Can you help me!" Then a gruff man's voice came from the right. "That's a failed experiment. Ignore it. Just grab the research samples, and we'll leave." I felt a memory shake loose as I realized what they were doing. The fractal is repeating whatever they hear. That means they just left him?!

I was angry at the thought of them leaving a child to die, but I shouldn't have been surprised considering this whole lab probably conducted illegal experiments on people. Don't have time to think about this.

The only helpful thing I got was from my instincts giving me sense that this fractal was weaker than the blade hound, at least in its defensive and offensive capacities. How would I even hit them if they're invisible? I knew the fractals were attacking me from the ceiling, but I couldn't tell exactly where they were.

I heard rushing wind and ducked to avoid, which worked, but then something clamped onto my left leg. "Oh no."

I yelped as I was yanked off the ground and was bashed against a machine. "Gah!" *Crack* I felt my right forearm arm break on impact, making everything go red again as pain flooded in from my arm.

I luckily didn't lose my grip on the table leg in the process. I got my answer on how to get close. My pain turned to fury at the fractal as I tried to find something to hit while everything was moving. A glimmer of light from the hallway was vaguely bouncing off something like a disk next to my leg. Good enough for me.

I whipped the metal pole at the spot as hard as I could. *Thwack* The pole bent as I hit the spot, and glowing ichor splatted on me, and it gave me a slightly better outline of it since it couldn't hide the blood outside its body. All I could tell at a glance was that it was using a beak to hold onto me. It tried to crush my leg in response, making me scream in agony, but it didn't have enough strength to actually break it with the beak holding me.

I felt it was about to swing me into something again, so I hit it in the same spot to stop it. *Thwack* It shuddered as what I hit broke and did actually stop moving, but that didn't stop me from hitting it again. *Crunch* The pole dug deep into it as its beak dropped me as a ding echoed in my mind as I fell to the ground.

[Congratulations, you have killed a Lv1 Canary before even becoming a Saint! 1 additional Stat point will be given to you after you become a Saint.]

I'm not sure how but I contorted my body and landed on it's feet but I immediately regretted it as blood flowed out of my leg making me hiss at the pain as I forced myself to stand. There's still one more. Where is it?

I heard the wind picking up behind me, so I turned around while swinging my weapon, hitting something hard. *Snap* The pole snapped in half but succeeded in stopping the fractal and making it bleed. I need to stop the bleeding on my leg.

I glanced pole that now had a sharp point instead of its length now and flipped it in my hand to get ready to plunge it into something. I glared at the glowing ichor that floated in the air slightly out of my arms reach. It reared back and launched itself at me, making the familiar sound of wind.

I could tell it was going for my eyes now that I could see the thing. I moved and brought my hand up and waited in anticipation. I hope it can't change directions mid attack. My concern was unneeded, and it let me bring down the sharp pole stabbed into it's disk. *Shunck* It went deep into the fractal, probably too deep. Because it recoiled back towards the ceiling, also taking me with it. I was stuck in the air with no way to hit it as it rammed into things to get pole out of it. My right arm is broken, and my left is stuck holding the pole.

It was also trying to bash me against stuff, but it didn't hurt nearly as much as the first one did. Right, I do have something I could use. I despised the idea, but I had no other option to kill it. I opened my mouth and bit into it.

I felt my teeth skid against something like bone before piercing it. Liquid poured out the fractal and into my mouth. It didn't taste bad it was sweet but incredibly bitter, and I hated that I liked it so much.

I fought the impulse let go and spit out the liquid and clenched my jaw harder letting it go down my throat, I crushed what I was digging my teeth into before I ripped the flesh I had in my mouth out of the fractal.

It wasn't dead, but we were falling to the ground. So I let go of the pole as my body contorted to land on my legs again, but I changed it slightly, so I landed on my good arm and leg. It needs to die for you to be safe. Roared in my mind.

My head snapped to it as I spit out a piece of bone. The fractal was drenched in its own ichor showing that it was a bird with a extremely long neck and massive eyes on the side of it's head one of which had a leg a table leg lodged in it.

A ding echoed in my head as I was about to jam the metal deeper in it. Oh, they bleed out again.

I ignored the window as I spotted the first aid kit in the far corner of the room. Did it get flung there when I got picked up? I glanced at my leg, it was missing a lot of skin letting me see my frayed calf muscles twitching through the still leaking blood. My bleeding was slowing down. Whether that was a good or a bad thing, I couldn't tell.

I dragged myself to the corner to avoid making my leg any worse and opened the kit. I took out the alcohol and poured it on my leg in the same movement. "Hisssss." My body shuddered as the pain multiplied. I covered my mouth and managed to not scream my heart out from the pain but a loud hissing noise came out through my lips. Too much pain, way too much pain.

I grabbed the bottle of pain killers and downed 4 of the pills, inadvertently swallowing more fractal blood. It made me drool from the satisfaction of swallowing it. Why does it taste so nice? People would judge me if I did eat it.

I was forced to ignore the bittersweet blood still in my mouth because of the pain. What was next again? Right it was the gel. I moved on to applying wound gel to my leg.

What the hell do I need to do for my arm? Push it back together of just leave alone? I only had half a jar of wound gel left after I was done getting a layer over anything bleeding.

I had to use 6 of the pads to cover my leg and bandaging it was next to impossible with one arm. How am I going to do this?

I need something to hold it in place... Oh, that should work. I contorted my good leg a bit to use my other foot to hold onto an end so I could wrap it.

I could feel the painkillers kicking in, greatly dulling the pain, letting me calm down and think clearly. Right, that mag stim thing said it could fuse bones together! But that doesn't answer my question about whether I should push them together or if I can use it as is? Let get a splint ready. I thought to myself as I turned to my right arm, I felt a heavy dread seep into my lungs at sight of my arm twitching before falling into a unnatural angle. It just hit me that the first aid kit didn't have a splint in it...

I'll just set it then use the meg-stim. I grabbed my arm and took a deep breath. I started to talk to myself but it was incredibly strange hearing a little girls voice come out of me. "It won't hurt... you took painkillers." And pulled on my arm. I was off as it bent the other way now. Just keep trying. I pulled again same thing happened, so I did it again this time I felt the feeling come to my arm all at once with a *Pop* The feeling of barbwire wrapped around my arm made me feel like I didn't take the painkillers at all. It hurts... Why does it still hurt? Despite the stabing pain emanating from my arm, it felt like it was in place. so I grabbed the mag-stim, placed it on my thigh and pressed the button.

I winced as something shot into my leg and the cylinder started to glow. Oh that's preeeettty. Everything started to get fuzzy and my eyes closed as sleep tried to take me. Sleeping would be a death sentence, right now. It easy to stay awake, especially when compared to resisting the urge to eat the fractals.

I opened my eyes and realized everything was in colors other then red again, and that the pain all over my body was dulled but not gone. Was I actually out for a bit? I dragged myself out from the corner while strapping the kit back onto me and slowly stood up while checking the condition of my leg and arm.

My arm was covered in blue and black spots that throbbed whenever I touched them or moved my arm. My leg on the other hand was in a much worse state with a few of the bandages being soaked with blood and a sense that if I went faster than a walk it would start profusely bleeding again. Fantastic! let's just get out before it becomes a problem.

I limped to the hallway and looked around cautiously. Nothing... I started my escape again with two new injuries and a distrust of random, out of place voices.

I trudged my way through hallway after hallway, dreading each door I passed would have a fractal that would maul me when I can't run. How large is this place, it's at least as big as a school?!

I wasn't sure how long I was doing this but when I turned into another hallway and saw something other then red light coming from a door. I got excited and pushed myself to go a bit faster. Please let it be a exit!

I got to the door and peeked into to check first before I killed for being impatient. I felt extreme dread that made start hyperventilating. I see it... the exit is right there but I really don't like spiders.

What was greeting me was a large door that was spilling golden light from it, the light was showcasing a massive metallic black spider with 8 shiny legs each with 2 thick joints, a abdomen that flashed orange with the sound of a engine emanating from it each time it did, and it's head had 6 glass beads for eyes surrounding a hole in the center of it's face. That's a piston spider...

I went back out of sight of it and slid down the wall. How am I supposed to get passed that?
