39. Robinc : Resolution
Running through the old facility it was the same as all the rest. The blueprint burned into my mind as instinct guided me down the illusionary halls. It all came to this. All the turmoil and confusion felt as if it was about to be lifted from my body as soon as I found my objective. It was here I was sure of it. Picking up my pace and passing through another illusionary shroud I confirmed my bearings. It wasn’t far now.
Those orders from so long ago rose to the fore front of my mind. Find the journal. It could have been completed years ago had they given me the location but it was to be withheld until I disembarked from the pod. Now it had been ten long years without any word from those I entrusted with my life. No agent came to recover me and the radio never sparked to life. I was alone but not for much longer.
It was a stroke of luck that Fusion took off into the facility by himself and Lewis mortally wounded by the abyss jaegers. Outrunning Artur was childsplay as he returned to Lewis to watch him die. I wouldn’t even need to stain my hands with their blood. Everything felt to be going to the plan laid out so long ago. Perhaps it was the arbitrator, his will guiding the overwhelming success I was about to find.
Ten years was a long time for our organisation to advance it’s technology in leaps and bounds. They might be altering the very fabric of the zones influence to favour my actions. Either way with the completion of my operation we could finally put all our resources on the end game. We would be the saviours of humanity.
Losing myself in awe over the organisations achievements brought me back to the reality of the situation. Looking around and into the ruined laboratories and offices reminded me as to how the arbitrators project had fallen apart in such a spectacular manner. All of their creations on the loose now the atrocity program was compromised. Almost every creature created from nightmares haunting the area under Entities influence.
Taking the time to tug at my secure suit and make sure the gas mask was handy I remembered the red coral project. A horrifying creation, a recombinant organism that essentially disintegrated flesh to repurpose the very atoms for its reproductive cycle. A cluster could overgrow a city within days if given the chance. The project saw such success that even the arbitrator himself felt a failsafe was required in case the terrifying force was let loose on the world. With the creation of the clapper claws satisfying him we returned our attention to the last operation that I sought to complete.
Even with that failsafe though his ambition was beginning to show. The facility should have been able to at least purge itself preventing such a terrifying organism from ever having a chance of escaping but the concrete halls still stood. Perhaps he decided the other projects were too valuable to lose or maybe the release of the coral stood in alignment with his plans. If it was released too early all would be lost.
No matter. If anything it reinforced that he had absolute confidence my operation would succeed. That would be the only reason to put so much on the line. I would make sure even with the cataclysmic cancer that grew below that all would not be lost. His plan would not go askew. Project apotheosis will be recovered from the depths. The end stage would be reached and our war finally at an end. A war that lasted over a millennium.
Beginning with the the crusades and a group of holy knights finding what was thought to be the holy grail they assumed control of the bounties the technological time capsule had to offer. No one knew of its true origin except for the arbitrator who kept its secrets throughout the ages. It did however tell of the singularity and existential threat it held in store for the universe. It claimed it would never die until the singularity was removed and lived to this day through the hundreds of years it spent built up the organisation.

From the very beginning it recruited those who accompanied the arbitrator to fight against the cosmic evil. Over the years it forged the most elite and adept warriors clad in master crafted armor and weapons that were masterpieces of death with methods unknown to this world. With unbreakable armor and weapons that reaped our enemies we quickly became forgotten by the world as the last with any knowledge of us fell.
Devoting ourselves as children of warfare willing or not we worshipped violence and depredation to further our abilities in combat to fight for the savior who would leave the universe at peace offering us eternal rest for our efforts. Throwing ourselves into the breach we perfected our techniques and catalogued our tactics constantly updating our codex of war with new conflict that was found to be never ending.
We kept the arbitrator safe regardless of the cost while it adjusted the grand plan to every variable that became apparent. Over the years we managed to enhance it's ability from being a simple mortal into something beyond the imagination. With this final objective in the facility I ran through our quest to create a god would be complete.
A cry went out through the facility again. Entity surely detected the reason for my presence by now. Readying my kriss vector the first of the hoard came screaming around the corner. With a barrage of fire the enraged fallen fell without protest. The screams heightened as scrambling could be heard throughout the facility. I wouldn’t have long.
Fighting with unmatched zealous fervour I cut through every fallen or abomination made from those who fell in this place or bargained away their sentience for what they perceived as holding onto their lives. With the skill and knowledge of a millennium of warfare flowing through every action with the smg or machete the corrupt beings fighting under Entities cause fell without incident as they grew in desperation trying to stop my efforts.
Marching over the bodies of many I arrived at the archives hidden away for only those with the knowledge of this place to find. While in a notable state of decay a skeleton laid hunched over a table with a single document on it. One of our legion who died unable to retrieve the document himself. His death would not be in vain. Seeing the title apotheosis I quickly stashed the report in a folder for safekeeping. All that was left was to extract.
Returning along the way back to the massive elevator gunfire erupted from somewhere in the complex. Not the sound of a standard gunshot with supersonic cracks but rather the sound of balls of fluid being launched at high velocity. Approaching the small service elevator next to the main train elevator I looked up to see a green glow generated in tandem with the gunfire.
My hopes ran at their peak. It could mean only one thing. My heart lept into my throat that all my hopes would come true. The gears grinded slowly up the wall as anxiety began to take over desperate for an answer. At the top of this lift I would know for certain if I was abandoned or just left to complete my objective. Grinding to a stop at the top the doors clanked open revealing eight legionaries fighting in the tunnel with one saluting me before asking if I found success.
“Bronci! It is good to see someone has survived! We were sure after we lost contact the operation was doomed. Have you secured the document?” Waving the folder in front of him while I held back such overwhelming relief the legionnaire nodded before commanding the squad forward.
With a final cry we all assualted back through the tunnel at frightening pace regardless of what Entity had brought charging onto our position. The hoard rushed forward desperate to prevent any survivors from escaping with the knowledge to threaten its existence. Plasma bolts tore into mutant or collective cultist to detonate within the flesh causing horrific wounds or outright blasting creatures apart.
Continuing through the river of blood that was beginning to form it splashed over our calves as we charged forth towards the sound of tremendous gunfire echoing through an opening in the tunnel gate that was blown open. The light piercing through once traversed revealed a helicopter hovering silently apart from the rush of air below it and guns roaring from the sides. Descending as the landing zone was cleared we jumped aboard the craft which took off as soon as the last man's boots clanked over the floor.
Looking over the men I saw familiar eyes under their enclosed combat helmets. Reunited again with my brothers in arms the ordeal that was the zones isolation was finally at an end. With the arbitrators will we would finally put an end to the threat the singularity posed. Though it was still decades away the end was now in motion and we would be sure nothing would bring it to a halt.
