ICU Ward, North mark Hospital, Logan City.
In a room devoid of sound, a figure lay on the bed, his body covered in bandages, with many wires and tubes attached to him. The monitors and sensors were recording and observing every movement of his body.
His eyes were closed, and his chest heaved up and down slowly. But then his finger twitched, followed by a low grunt, and he slowly opened his eyes.
His eyes looked lost for a moment as he stared at the ceiling before he turned his head to look around to see that he was in a hospital room.
A tear-jerking pain ran through his body, but he didn't even twitch as he remembered what had happened the night before.
After he used his power, this frail body couldn't bear the burden and began to deteriorate.
Even though he used a minuscule amount of power, it was too much for this body.
He couldn't even use that power to heal this body. But he understood that this world has yet to be exposed to the use of cosmic energy.
The people who live here are ordinary mortals in the early stages of developing their bodies before they could be exposed to cosmic energy.
But he also knew that if he used his remaining power recklessly, he'd be exposed.
So he was left with only one option to get his body healed. To get treated by the doctors of this world.
In addition, he wanted to live his life normally for the time being and adjust to the situation before taking any further action.
His first goal was to avoid being exposed to the overseers of this special world.
But his attention was drawn to the door as he heard hurried footsteps approaching his room, and soon, with a creak, the door opened, revealing a woman in her early twenties dressed in a rose pink uniform.
She had fair skin, round eyes, thin lips, and a lovely face. Her brown hair was neatly tied back, and she wore a nursing cap over her head.
Her steps came to a halt, and her eyes were filled with surprise. But she calmed down and approached the man, looking at him before shifting her gaze to the monitor, which was recording the man's heartbeat and pulse and monitoring his neural activities.
She nodded slightly and looked at the man again.
"What happened to you? How did you get injured so badly?" She asked softly.
She vividly remembered the commotion that occurred in the hospital last night when a severely injured man suddenly appeared in front of the hospital and collapsed.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
But the man said nothing, his gaze fixed on the nurse. However, his eyes were filled with a surprise for a short moment before returning to normal.
There was an awkward silence in the room as the nurse's lips pursed and her face looked annoyed for some reason.
"I'll call the doctor." She gave the man one last look before picking up the record sheet and exiting the room.
The man's gaze was fixed on the retreating figure of the nurse until she left the room, and she soon returned with a young man dressed in a blue shirt and black pants, who was quite tall and handsome. His face was hidden behind a surgical mask, and a stethoscope hung around his neck.
He looked down at the man and frowned.
"How are you feeling now? Could you speak?"
The man looked at the doctor and nodded slowly.
"What happened to you?" the doctor asked as he took the record sheet from the nurse. "Four stab wounds and severe internal organ damage; we thought it was incredible that you survived."
The man struggled to speak and spoke in a weak voice.
"I don't know. I can't remember anything."
The doctor's gaze shifted from the record sheet to the man, and his brows arched.
He nodded slowly and completed a quick check-up.
"All vital signs are normal." The doctor spoke slowly, but his voice was filled with surprise.
"Mr. Jake Miller. Rest up; I'll be back in the evening." The doctor stood up, nodded to the man, muttered something to the nurse, and exited the room.
The nurse had a complicated expression on her face as she took a quick look at the man and exited the room, closing the door behind her.
But the man smirked quietly as he returned his gaze to the ceiling before closing his eyes.
.................
Jester City.
In one of a house in a suburban neighborhood.
A young man in a grey t-shirt and shorts sat at the dining table.
His long, black hair was slightly dishevelled, but he smiled contentedly as he ate the food served to him.
He caught glimpses of the middle-aged man and woman seated across from him, teasing each other.
He sighed and stuffed a mouthful of rice into his mouth.
It's been three days since he has regressed back to this world and he was sincerely enjoying it.
His parents were among the victims when that entity arrived, and disaster struck this world. At the time, he deeply regretted his neglect of his parents.
But, this time, he will not let his parents suffer the consequences of the disaster. Since he was aware of the future. He will help his parents in gaining the ability to survive in a magical world.
"Chris, how was your day today?" A soft voice of a woman reached his ears.
Chris raised his eyes to see a beautiful middle-aged woman in her late forties smiling at him. The middle-aged man was staring at him as well.
"As usual, mom. We were cramming for the semester next week."
The woman nodded. "Don't put too much of pressure on yourself. Just do your best."
Chris smiled slightly and again stuffed his mouth with rice, but he silently muttered.
'There will be no school after four days. Everything will change.'
But after hearing the woman's words, his heart warmed up. His mother was always kind to him, and his father was always supportive.
A few faces flashed through his mind at that moment. His companions, his life partners, who died at the time.
His smile vanished, and his fists clenched the spoon subconsciously before he took a deep breath.
He has decided that once portals appear in this world, he will change everything. He will let no one close to him face the deaths and threats in the future.
After finishing the competing meal, he sat down on the couch and turned on the television, which was showing the news.
The news was highlighting the bizarre murder in Logan City.
He was slouching on the couch when his eyes opened wide and he stood up, his face flushed with shock, and his body began to tremble as he stared at the face of a woman on the television screen, who had also been a victim of a murder.
"Ellie"
