Volume 4: Epilogue

Unknown

The Adamite Key was found, and just as quickly someone tried to use it for evil. Centus has taken the Adamite Key to an unknown location, where they intend to destroy it.

Centus: To be or not to be…that is the question…

Centus places the key onto the ground

Centus: Some things are better lost to the waves of history, like this thing. Absolute power reveals absolutely, it shows us the people we’re truly afraid of on the inside

Centus goes over to a nearby campfire and begins to spark a fire.

Centus: This world is neither pure nor just, rather it is a vessel of the life put on the Earth by pure cosmic indifference. There is no god beating over our shoulders trying to make us follow virtues and values, we force those values on each other

The fire is sparked and Centus goes to grab the key

Centus: Why would I want to live forever, why would I want to do this. For some the struggle is enough to fill a man’s heart but I’ve struggled for eons, and I’ve found nothing but pointlessness. Living since the very dawn of man has filled me with enough jaded experience and nihilist ramblings to fill a book. I hate that very thing which gives me my immortality.

Centus places the key into the fire, and it begins to burn

Centus: My kill count is in the hundreds of thousands because I’ve lived for so long. I am history's most reviled serial killer because I outlast every single mortal who tries to scar communities. I am an immortal instrument of destruction and war who has fought in every single war waged since the dawn of time, it’s the one thing I’m good at. However, the consciousness I’m also cursed with gives me the right to feel human after all those years. The thing that gives me the right to stand by the Century Corps is my conviction to better my own person. It’s the act of change for someone who should have been set in my ways as long as I have been

The flames consume the key as the flames dance even higher and higher into the sky

Centus: Everyone wants to feel young but when you feel young for millions of years, the novelty wears off. I used to hate humanity for building me and then cursing me with the burden of being their immortal soldier, but now I can forgive them, because I am no longer immortal and of the gods. Now…I can finally rest when I want to rest.

Centus feels their old age kicking in as their cells stop regenerating as fast as they leave the key to burn.
