Freeland

Pilot stood there as Fawn finished as the ever growing crowd of mutated humans crawled on all fours toward the group and spitting menacingly.

He felt fear consume his soul as he watched them crawl forward like animals the group stared straight ahead in horror. The man behind Fawn tossed several bombs he had in hands and watched as they exploded and threw sparks in all directions. The screams and shouts echoed throughout the forest as a swarm of rabid creatures started pouring out from the shadows surrounding them.

"Umm…dude with the huge ass axe can you give me a hand?" The man asked.

He pointed in front of him to stand beside Fawn as he grabbed Pilot to stand with him closing is eyes.

"I need you to stand still and not think much," He grinned.

His body started to slowly shift copying every feature of Pilots His body started to slowly shift copying every feature of Pilots down to his shoes till he was a complete duplicate of himself. He reached out towards Pilot's face.

Pilot's body no longer existed becoming nothing vanishing before everyone's eyes. The stranger stared at the empty space where Pilot previously stood.

"What do I do now?" Pilot asked.

"You have one minute! Only one so you better fucking make it count! Pilot you need to run straight through as they are mindless and won't pay attention so you gotta keep going till your body is visible again!" He stated.

"Right…" Pilot whispered.

"I can bide time for one minute so you gotta go now!" He shouted.

Pilot dashed fearlessly through the tunnel of creatures who were once humans watching the confidence on the man's face he wished it was a true reflection of who could be and was not scared.

The tunnel of creatures opened up in front of him as he was greeted by a long corridor of stone walls stretching in either side, illuminated by the light from the distant sun shining brightly through the cracks in the wall.

"How do I get out of here?" He whispered.

He saw no way in sight to exit when he felt an arm placed on his back only to see his body had quickly returned to normal. He turned to face a woman with pink hair and in all black who was grinning at him.

"Well done, boy, we did it, we managed to get rid of all of them! Thank goodness I caught you guys just in time!" She said relieved.

She reached out a hand as she spoke, offering it to Pilot.

"Come with me, boy."

"PILOT!" The voice chimed.

"Get away from her, Pilot!" Fawn shouted.

The woman shoved her broom in front of Pilot's face making a boarder that they could not cross to get to him. She smiled crooked . She smiled crookedly as she watched Pilot slowly walk closer to Fawn.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

Fawn looked at Pilot with sadness, anger and determination etched across her face as Pilot continued to approach her.

"I never thought I would see Freeland the morpher with Fawn in the same place…" She sighed in relief.

"Don't come any closer! Don't take another step closer!" Her expression became dark and sinister.

Her arms trembled, as if her hands were being held by someone else's hands. She looked at her hands as she clenched her fists.

"You thought you could hide the misfit from Master Caym didn't you?" She smiled.

Pilot felt everything was hopeless and that he didn't want to die. His heart sank as memories of everything he experienced over the years resurfaced. He felt tears fall down his cheeks, yet he remained standing tall. Fawn smiled widely.

"I am afraid I cannot let you live…unless you come with me to be of use to Master Caym," She sneered.

Pilot could sense something about the woman was wrong with her, and it was unsettling to him. Something felt so familiar about her, something he couldn't quite put his finger on. He tried to look into her eyes to identify the feeling, but he kept getting pulled in every which direction.

"Mayham, you were human before you came here!" Fawn said.

"Shut up! I am no longer anything in this realm…Caym understands our struggle and I will kill anyone who dares to go up against his laws!" She arched her eyebrows.

Pilot noticed Fawn stiffen when she mentioned 'Caym'. The woman's demeanor changed to a more relaxed position.

"You have one choice you stupid kid!" She huffed.

She pulled the brush off the broom to reveal a knife that glimmered with its sharp edge.

Before he could comprehend what was happening, her hand raised and the blade aimed directly toward him. His body froze instantly, unable to even move. Before Fawn made contact, a flash of white appeared before her slicing the weapon right in half with a quick swipe of the blade.

"Mayham, you dare touch that boy and I will send Caym your head to his very door step or do I reveal something even more embarassing?!" Freeland muttered.

She growled deeply and lowered her hand. The woman was clearly angry.

"Let them pass," She ordered sharply.

Freeland turned to the girl holding her hands up with the palm facing outward, showing that they weren't threatening him. He stepped aside allowing them to pass. As the group walked toward the clearing in front of them Fawn could see that they were covered with dried blood, the remnants of their battle.

"Pilot, I will be back for you…" Mayhem whispered.

She snapped her fingers before disappearing with a puff of smoke. Fawn glanced at Pilot. The girl was gone and Pilot's eyes widened as he took Fawn's hand gently intertwining them. She leaned her head upon his shoulder as they continued to walk.

"Freeland, why is she so scared of you?" Pilot asked.

He smiled nervously not sure how to respond to his question kicking the first up from the ground as he tried to avoid the question in Pilots eyes. He sighed heavily, as Fawn pulled away from Pilot, letting go of his hand. She gazed into his eyes waiting for the response from Freeland. He was trying his best to keep from tearing up. He swallowed hard before speaking again. He cleared his throat.

"Mayham is my daughter…Caym claimed her name and now under his control…" He admitted.

Pilot felt horrible for Freeland losing everything that meant a lot to him. He looked at Fawn hoping for some kind of answer as he waited anxiously for her reaction. Her eyes shifted back and forth between Pilot and the ground while biting her lip.

"Freeland...I am still sorry Caym took your daughter," She replied quietly.

He closed his eyes for a moment taking deep breaths. He wasn't upset, nor did he feel guilty for what happened. He was simply sad that he lost his child to in a foreign land.

"Have you gotten any stronger since then?" Pilot asked.

"If I get any stronger then I will have to kill according to rules here so instead I stayed put…" Freeland noted.

"Kill her?" He asked.

"You are responsible for your kin in this world, but if you are static they generally will not bug the parent if driven into this world…" Fawn explained.

Pilot was annoyed with everything yet it was his responsibility to take down a man with a huge ego in a land that he wasn't even born in. It was a shame he was so young when that happened.

"It's fine. We don't need to talk about it now," He said.

"What happened to the guy with the axe?" Pilot pondered.

"Oh, we sent him a long his way," Fawn smiled.

Freeland sighed before looking up at Pilot who gave a curious gaze back the older man standing in front of him.

"PIlot, I want to go with you on your journey so that when the time comes I will kill her myself," He noted.

"Freeland…" Pilot started.

"Please…it's the least I can do for both of us," He pleaded.

Pilot looked at him. He wanted to help but there was no way he knew what exactly he should do or where to start.

"Freeland, are you sure you want to?" Fawn asked.

Freeland nodded confidently before turning to Pilot again.

"Yes. I promise you my life is yours now. You will lead me to the one person who can help us end

this war with Master Caym forever." He added.

Pilot sighed as he contemplated Freeland's statement. He felt like it was the right thing to do, the only right thing to do. He looked up at him then looked at Fawn before nodding slightly in agreement.

"I need you and Pilot to becareful on your journey then...please do not let yourselves die in vain!" Fawn asked.

"I have Pilot now so it should be fine!" He laughed.

Pilot became nervous hearing Freeland compliment him, even though he himself did not deserve such praise. They walked for a little longer as they passed through trees. There was still so much around them he had yet to learn about.

"This will be our last meeting for awhile then. Freeland please take care of Pilot!" She smiled.

"Of course!"

"Well then I am off," Fawn noted.

Pilot watched as she walked away into the forest. The smile disappeared from his face as he returned his attention to the trail ahead.

He walked in silence for the next few moments until suddenly his stomach grumbled.

"Umm, are you hungry?" He asked.

His voice broke.

"Starving actually…" He responded.

"Well then let me teach you how we will be obtaining food!" He smiled.
