Chapter 1- Isn’t This Isekai a Bit Too Casual

And so begins a new week crammed full of the sigh inducing tediousness one would expect to find in the everyday life of a high school student. At least this is the opinion of one Caelus Flynn or just Cael as most called him, whose only respite from the mundanity of his existence is in the binge reading of fantasy novels his kind generally being referred to as otaku.

Cael always felt that there should be more to life than simply existing day to day as one cog in the great machine that is modern society, he pondered for a second that perhaps this was the result of his parents giving him a name that wouldn’t be out of place in one of his favourite stories. Nevertheless, there was nothing he could do about it, so with a shake of his head he stopped dwelling on such pointless things and made his way to school eventually finding the correct classroom with almost no time to spare before the bell.

Contrary to his name Cael in fact lived in Japan, his school was a high class internationally recognized private academy aimed at the children of VIPs as a result a large majority of the students were of mixed nationality giving the class roster quite the colourful readout of surnames, furthermore the classes were carried out in English not Japanese simply because it was the most common first language across the globe.

As Cael sat a few people acknowledged his existence such as the class president Yuna Miyuki, it was an open secret that her father was a big shot yakuza making her strange obsession with rules all the more exasperating.

The girl could be described as pretty with her shoulder length black hair and oval face but many in class felt it was ruined by her almost constantly glaring eyes visible behind her half-rimmed glasses. Cael tried to ignore whatever it was she said just now. It was not that he disliked her but for a relaxed go with the flow type like him she was the sort he wasn’t great with.

『Cael, are you listening to me?! I said you should get here earlier or else you’re going to be late for real one day.』

Cael calmly watched her small hand wave back in forth in front of his face while he considered the best way to respond for a moment, luckily he knew her long enough to know exactly what to say.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

『I heard you already the first time you cliché glasses beauty president.』

Yuna blushed for a second and eventually stuttered out a few words while touching her own face.

『D-Did you just call me beautiful?』

Cael felt like he could hear the words in the back of his head but chose to ignore it instead looking to the other person who bothered to greet him after hearing a good natured laugh from that direction.

『Yo Cael! Have you been messing with prez again?』

『Don’t worry I’ll keep it in moderation; I always try to be nice to walking tropes like her they give me the hope to get up in the morning.』

『Hey! This walking trope is still here you know!』

『Hahaha, I see you guys get along well as always.』

It was none other than Cael’s best friend Alexander Heart, Alex for short who paradoxically was both the most popular guy in class while also somehow being even greater of an otaku than himself. Cael didn’t know how he did it and whenever asked, the guy himself would say with a charming smile that he wasn’t that popular everyone was just really nice.

The unlikely duo bonded over their parents bombastic naming sense and became fast friends on account of their mutual interests in reading material. This was much to the chagrin of the classes female population who shared the opinion that he was trying to corrupt their favourite blonde haired blue eyed smiling prince.

For the record it wasn’t that Cael was bad looking if anything you could say he was handsome with his nearly blood red hair and turquoise eyes it gave an exotic look combined with his mischievous smile he had a roguish charm enough to make most girls swoon. The problem lay with every time he opened his mouth, he would only make joking comments and never act seriously no matter what to the point most would feel like coughing up blood after only half an hour of conversation.

The class president and Alex were the only people truly unflappable enough to associate with him. Yuna while emitting a heroic aura would charge forth and try to correct the slacker’s ways while Alex would only smile and laugh no matter what thus all of Cael’s comments simply washed off him like water on a leaf.

『Seriously though Cael you really should put some effort into your studies it will help you out in the future.』

『Eh~ but then I won’t have time for my novels don’t you know the golden rule of hobbies first life second and all that.』

『This guy! Honestly, what am I going to do with you?』

『If class president is that worried you could just marry me~ and I could become a house husband after all my second favourite hobby is teasing the beautiful miss Yuna.』

『Ma-Ma-Marry! Stop speaking irresponsibly you’re going to get stabbed one day seriously!』

『Don’t worry if I get stabbed, I’ll just get isekaied or something or better yet can’t I just get summoned right now?』

As though whispered right by his ear even though he knew for a fact no one was there, a playful voice responded to his nonsensical request.

『I can help with that~』

Such cheery line was the precursor to how the life of everyone in that classroom changed forever none more so than Cael himself.
