(this is a Maze Runner fanfic!)
Shuck it. We finally get through the maze, we think everything is amazing, then Bam! We get dropped in the scorch.
“ Minho! Look!”
It was Chuck.
“ Huh, what? What's happening?”
Chuck was almost ecstatic. His face was shining, his eyes were lit up, and he was jumping up and down, which caused a lot of dust to travel everywhere.
“ There's a building! Finaily!”
I could understand Chuck’s excitement. We had been walking for what felt like forever under the shuck sun, and everyone would welcome a bit of shade, no matter where it came from. My skin must have been sunburned a thousand times over, my saliva was starting to cling together, and each foot fall felt like a punch to my overheated body. My thoughts were interrupted by Alby’s sharp voice
“Well, who wants to check it out?”

Thomas tentatively raised his hand.
“ I don't know why, but it feels right for me to go.”
Well that sure was weird. At least Thomas could handle himself if there was trouble. But when I heard the sound of pounding footsteps, and looked up to see Thomas was sprinting towards us, looking flushed and terrified, and I instantly doubted my previous statement.
“We have to go. Now.”
Before I could ask him what was wrong, Thomas muttered something about telling us when we were a safe distance away, then he bolted in the opposite direction of the hut. After We got a few miles away, Thomas stopped and started to explain, but was cut off with a loud ‘boom!’ Followed right after by a bolt of lighting only a few feet from Alby. Before I even had time to think, my runner instincts kicked in, and I found myself bolting to the nearest building, which was a couple hundred feet away. Everyone else soon followed suit realizing at the same time what was happening. We were in a lightning storm. I could smell the electricity hitting the sand, and it reminded me of burnt toast, and the sound of the loft thunder and lighting was a loud beat in the inside of my brain, followed by an electric snap.
Somehow, even with his limp, Newt had gotten in front of me. Suddenly, lightning struck only a couple feet from newt, and I felt something. Worry for my best friend? Scared of dying myself? Before I had more time to think, a bolt of lightning hit a couple inches behind me. The world seemed to tilt as I fell forward into the dust and dirt. I tried to get up, but another bolt struck nearly a foot away from my arm, and I was sent sprawling again. The last thing I saw was Newt's concerned face, before I was swallowed in a world of nothing.
