A chorus of bird calls broke Anaya out of her reverie.
Upon dealing the killing blow, all the adrenaline and tension left her body. The sudden win against what she now knew was an Avian abyss had calmed her. The abrupt calls reminded her that she was still in danger and that she should get to safety as fast.
She had let her guard down, and she was beating herself up for it.
Before she could move, the sounds grew louder.
Listening closer, Anaya noticed that the calls were coming from upstairs. The nonexistent door made her understand the predicament she was in. The entrance to the chaos outside was open, and she needed to close it up.
Anaya started to pick up the table and pushed it towards the door as quietly as possible. The sound upstairs died as soon as she moved to the table. A loud scraping sound echoed as the table fought against her efforts of stealth.
Seconds later, a quiet buzz of what she assumed were wings beating followed.
Recognizing it was pointless at this point, she shoved the table as fast as she could. The large table ran across the room, as the resistance she expected wasn’t as pronounced.
She almost face planted but caught herself with a grace she could not recognise.
Telling herself she’ll process that later, she pushed, but by the time she was at the doorway, a loud buzz was making its way down the stairs.
She looked up and what calm she had tried cultivating fled as a mass of flying creatures were coming down the stairs towards her.
With a heavy heave, she pushed the table into the doorway and made a run for the hallway. She had hoped to avoid the corridor but the door would not hold for long and it would be her death if she stayed in that room.
Better to take her chances than face certain death.
Anode in hand and staff in hand, Anaya ran.
She reached the doorway and peaked outside. Coast clear, she chose the direction away from where the shadow had come from and followed another corridor that curved into a door wall with two doors on both sides.
She ignored the bone door and went into the metal door. Happy that it was unlocked, she peaked in.
At the far end of the lit room was a row of 4 barred rooms. The space leading up to the rooms was empty except for the chair and metal table that sat at the center of the empty space.

Seeing no one else around, she stepped in. With caution, she walked to the table, picked the chair up, and ran back to the door to seal herself in.
The avian abyss would have a hard time going through a metal door, but something with hands could come in. She needed to avoid any encounters as much as possible.
She put the anode on the table. Then, one by one, she took out all the things she had in her inventory, identifying each one at a time.

Skill level up: Observe level 2
Her skill level up was a pleasant surprise and she hoped it would be more helpful. More information would be great. She went through all the items and identified them again.
She hoped for another level up but deep down she knew that was wishful thinking. It would not be that easy.
Proving her right, the skill level stayed the same and she put everything that she did not need to use immediately back into the inventory.
Curious, she opened the inventory interface. Essence stone in hand, she hesitated as she was not sure of her idea. She pushed her hand into the interface.
The interface rippled and her hand disappeared into the ripples. Panicking slightly she pulled back her hand and after careful observation of her hand, she found there were no problems. Partially fascinated and still cautious, she pushed her hand back into the interface.
She let go of the stone and with the stones leaving her hand, she immediately pulled her arm out. She checked the interface and noticed the stone in the inventory.
She put her hand back into the interface and with intent, pulled out an essence stone. She tried again, and the essence stones disappeared into the inventory. Like a child with a new toy, Anaya went on to take out various amounts of stones in and out of the inventory, fascinated by the very action.
A soft chuckle broke Anaya out of play. She looked around and staring at her through the barred room was a creature. A loud bellow of laughter followed when the creature realized Anaya was no longer busy playing, sword and staff in hand. The laughter was a clear mockery and before she could stop herself, anger made its way up out of her mouth.
What are you laughing at?!
The words seemed to catch the creature by surprise as the loud laugher came to a halt there and then. The smirk that was on its face was gone.
