GENETIC RESHUFFLING COMMENCING
These short messages blared in front of [Indora], genetic reshuffle? he thought.
He took too long to react to the messages as his domain was being attacked by the insects and though their efforts were pointless, they were still distracting.
He had only heard of red system messages from his elders and they barely told him anything.
Why there was a warning was kind of weird. The system was an omniscient and omnipotent entity and had no care for the life and death of mortal beings. The genetic reshuffle program was also weird, a system function he was not aware of, and he prided himself on his long-lived clan’s repository of knowledge accumulated over the eons.
Still lost in his thoughts [Indora] realized the monotony of his life was changing in front of his eyes. Something new was happening, and that was always appreciated.
By the time the counter reached 0, [Indora] had yet to move. He soon regretted it as his instincts shrieked into his very being that he should move. Instincts that had barely been a whisper in the back of his mind a moment ago were now an uproarious call of doom.
Trying to shift his position, [Indora] was at a loss. He was on his last few steps in his domain, completion and any movement would destroy years of work. Once he had established his position, he was sessile as a rock and any shift in his spatial positioning would affect the telemetry of his domain, a very sensitive domain.
The warning and his instincts told him to move, but he was stuck and could only move after the planet crumbled and his domain fully set.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Where was he supposed to move, and how?
Making a decision, [Indora] decided to trust himself and his skills.
Abyss shield activated. Personal Shield in taking energy from the domain.
Home of the well buff activated. 2x mana regeneration
Last stand skill activated. 2x health regeneration
The world is my anchor activated. Repel the first attack and redirect it to the monarch.
Constitution Buff activated. 10% reduction in physical damage.
Ether buff activated. 20% reduction in magic damage
Soul lantern set. Anchor point reduces soul damage by 7%.
All of this happened in a matter of microseconds as a world eater’s instincts of self-preservation went into overdrive, and he made the most ideal decisions.
…
The pain that ran through his body was inexpressible. A scream of agony in an instant that fell silent just as fast. Time slowed as he got a front-row seat of his demise. It was an out-of-body experience where he lost all his senses. One moment he was in pain and the next nothing.
A notification flashed in front of him as he watched the energy he had accumulated over the years plummet into oblivion. His skills barely helping as the destruction was two-fold, body and soul. Gradual cracks formed on not just his vessel but his soul too.
Damage to the souls of entities beyond a certain threshold was both hard to do and hard to repair. The fact that his soul was unraveling and breaking apart would have been interesting if he wasn’t sure, it was probably happening to him. He was dying in body and soul and in that moment and yet he felt nothing.
Thoughts still concrete, he observed his recent work. A crumbled domain was the only thing in sight, the remnants already tainting all places it had touched. What would happen after, he knew not and he would never get the chance to find out.
The universal bell chimed as it marked the passing of a major being. Three tongs with one chime to celebrate his existence throughout 3 eons. He was still young and the fact that the bell rang only three times would cause chaos across galaxy clusters as his clan went to war. A sudden feeling of envy sprung as he wished he was there to see his clan together as one, all for him.
Noticing the change, feelings sprung up, ebbing and flowing but with a heavy undertone of fear and a hint of curiosity.
What exactly was killing him?
In his last moments, he did not know what caused his death, and the fury that he felt tried to consume him, but just like his other emotions it fell off slowly until he saw no point in it.
Mustering all that he was left with, he channeled and delayed his demise by fractions of time as he focused on what ended him.
It eluded him up until he saw an insect in his abode. In the corner was one of those humanoid creatures that had encroached on his domain only with darker tones. He had never seen such a specimen and would have loved to add it to his collection.
A moment later, it clicked that the cause of his death was probably this insect. With one last look, he locked eyes with the insect as it seemed to have just woken up. He threw whatever he was left with towards this creature and the weight of his soul remnants pressure brought great distress to the insect.
The look it had, brought a sense of joy that overwhelmed that anger that seethed beneath. He would make sure the creature followed him in his demise. He would face his death with the knowledge that the insect would join him in the samsara promptly. It would not escape his wrath.
