Anaya knew she was moving. She could feel the vibrations and sounds that passed through the soft but tight grass she was encased in. It was close to an hour since she woke up and the panic she had experienced when she woke was starting to fade, replaced by a heavy, grim feeling at her core.
The slight vertigo she was feeling suggested she was either moving upward or downward at considerable speed.
She had been left with her thoughts for far too long. They were slowly recessing into the darker and malicious musings. Her psyche slowly inching towards a place she knew would only cause her harm.
She knew this, but every attempt to avoid thinking about her situation, her mortality, her coming back to life failed.
Anaya found herself thinking about the worst that could happen, her mind spinning out of control, the events that had transpired playing in her head, her lack of control in her very life clear as day. She needed to gain control of her life. The thoughts were overwhelming her, and she wanted a distraction. She needed one.
22 hours left till the job automatically assigned.
An interface popped in front of her as if reading her mind. It provided the much needed respite from her thoughts. Too happy and mentally exhausted to ponder the implications of what had just happened, Anaya focused on the interface.
She realized she had been out for longer than she expected. 2 hours had passed.

With a yes, a wheel with all the affinities appeared in front of her. The wheel was divided into different sections, the largest sections reserved for the affinities. In between two affinities was another section that showed the affinities overlapping.
Another smaller section showed the overlap of three different affinities and the last part of the wheel was the smallest, with the combination of all the affinities.
She did not understand the whole process, but she figured that each affinity had a direct impact on her job. Obviously, Anaya thought, the job selection was based on them.
Are more affinities better? she asked herself out loud.
The grass wall immediately shook and a moment later, she felt her speed increase. Closing her eyes, the panic she had shunted starting to peak its head. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself.
“There was nothing she could do but wait.” She repeated the thought in her head.
Eyes opening, Anaya focused on the wheel. The concept was simple: roll for a chance to get a job based on the affinities. She watched as the wheel spun, a needle sized pointer above the spinning wheel.
Rattling to a stop.

The three jobs she could chose from set. Anaya saw the crude designation at the start of the job titles. She was not a fan, anything considered crude was usually not that good. She wanted a god job designation, considering what she had been through, a good job would hopefully make her life better.
She understood that she still had 2 rolls left. She was about to re-roll when she remembered her skill. She focused on the Crude dark farmer job.

Each description sounded unappealing to her, the dark felt like she would be squawking in the dark, doing this and that. The thought of that settled her hesitance. Crossing her fingers, she rolled again.
She watched the wheel in slight anticipation, maybe she would get something better she thought.
She had never tried gambling before but she was starting to see where the problem might come from.
The potential to get something great, something extraordinary based on little to no expense on her part and a bit of luck was a thrill she did not know she had.
She watched the wheel pull to a stop, slowly inching towards the four affinities, excited as it looked like it was going to stop on them. With a mental cry she waited for the system to give her, her winnings.

Her excitement died as indignation took its place. She was being cheated, she was sure she had got the four affinities. She looked at the wheel and her anger deflated as she saw the pointer slightly past the four affinity combination into the two.

The statement she saw in the description of the dark librarian of life caught her attention, it reminded her of the first time she had went to her high-school library. She had always loved reading and the first thing she went to once orientation had ended was the library.
Her dormitory life wasn’t fun as she did not know anyone and kept to herself. The library was a place she had that found that brought her peace of mind.
For a week she lost herself in the books she read, only leaving the library to eat and sleep and coming back the next morning, eager to learn.
It was towards the end of the week, that she found out that she was allowed to borrow books from the library. Her village librarian had never allowed her to take any books home so she had falsely assumed the same in her new school.
Her new librarian had found her, Simone. Her only high-school friend. At some point her library had turned into her new home. She even had a copy of the keys, spending nights burning the midnight oi....
Realization hit her as she remembered the other descriptions. The dark scholar mentioned something about midnight oil, a phrase she barely used, a phrase she had only used when she was with Simone. Intrigued Anaya went tried to remember the other descriptions.
Soon she realized the descriptions matched with major milestones in her life. Her parents were farmers and her first couple of years were spent in the farm. The first things she learned where how to take care of the farm animals, the land and how to sustainably farm it.
She was a farmers daughter. A small garden of herbs thrived on her windowsill. Her grandma had left it for her. Once she’d realized she couldn’t take care of prized herbs, she gave them to Anaya, entrusting her to take care of them.
Anaya had got them late, her grandmothers hesitation and the distance between their homes brought the herbs to her within an inch of their death. She had went to library and researched how to take care of them, a deliberate revival plan enacted soon after.
She did not bother trying to remember the necromancy description, the milestone still fresh in her mind.
The more she thought about it, the more it unnerved her, did the system read her memories?
The implications crashed into her and fear followed. Hastily she read the descriptions again and again. Her whole life was in front of her eyes.
Helplessness overwhelmed her.
What can I honestly do here? she said out loud.
A set of deep breaths later, Anaya with closed eyes re-rolled again.
She figured might as well go for broke, maybe she could get something better.

The excitement she was once had gone, the conspiracy theories still rummaging through her mind. She knew the odd of that pick happening were too low, impossibly low. Was this the system trying to allay her thoughts? Was it trying to work against her dislike? abait her fear?. The crude theories with little evidence playing off in her head.
A sudden jerk and Anaya realized she had come to a stop. The grass slowly started to unfurl around her, light creeping in.
She looked at her job descriptions, and chose the first job. The sudden change making her remember that she had no power her, all she could do was try to survive.
She needed to get home and the only way she could do that was if she could control her own fate. She needed to be strong, she had to use all that she had to do that. She chose an all round boost. She did not know what what was about to happen and the 50% boost to all her affinities might help.
