Chapter 18:old man

Chapter 18:old man

After seven days of waiting at the altar, Arthur noticed that the frequency of demon summoning through the magic circle had increased considerably. The magic circle would emit a faint glow, followed by various odors wafting in from the void. Arthur discerned that these summoning attempts involved sacrifices, and the type of sacrifice used played a crucial role in their success. Sacrifices with a strong scent of blood or internal organs seemed to yield better results than those without.

Arthur suspected that many summoners who failed to attract demons were often using less appealing sacrifices. However, even in successful summonings, some demons returned injured. The wounded ones likely had encounters with powerful foes in the demon world but managed to escape, albeit with injuries.

Arthur also noted that certain summoners employed high-quality souls as offerings, which attracted more potent demons. He hypothesized that many summoners didn't truly understand what demons desired, leading to misconceptions and alterations in the summoning process.

As Arthur patiently waited, some summoned creatures returned with contented expressions, having savored the offerings, while others came back wounded. Arthur observed that injured demons might lose fragments of their souls during the summoning.

On the seventh day, the old demon finally reappeared at the altar in a gruesome condition. He had lost one of his horns, and his body bore numerous wounds, including a grievous gash on his abdomen.

After he climbed out of the magic circle, he naturally noticed Arthur close to him for the first time. Although the old demon had blood on his face, he still screamed threateningly at Arthur.

The old demon suspected Arthur had ulterior motives, so he didn't welcome him warmly.

Despite his tough talk, the old demon seemed uneasy.

Arthur got straight to the point, speaking in the devil's language, "Answer my questions, or face death!"

Since few demons could communicate like this, Arthur's devil language wasn't perfect, but it got the message across.

As he spoke, Arthur scraped his claws on the hard stone, sparking to show his lethal ability.

Seeing Arthur's strong muscles and claws, despite Arthur's smaller size, the old demon, severely injured, gave in and asked, "What... do you want to know?"
