Part 6- Aftermath of the Vision

Part 6- Aftermath of the Vision

He woke up staring up at a familiar ceiling.

Cody always had problems waking up in the morning, and it seems like waking up after having a vision was no different. Cody knew what happened. He remembered touching the motorbike, putting his Essence into the vehicle, and the vision that came.

A motorbike. That piece of metal was the frame of a motorbike. That’s what it’s called.

“What?” He asked, instantly realizing how raw and dry his throat was. Cody saw the morning light and realized he must had slept through the night. He moved the blanket off his body and realized that he was in his underwear. Someone had taken his clothes off.

Cody slowly sat up, blinking his tiredness away as his thoughts caught up to him. He remembered the feeling, and knew it was no dream. It was a vision. Cody had heard stories of cultivators having visions from old ancient items, read stories of them from books, seen movies of heroes having an epiphany from them, but nothing had prepared him for the real thing.

All the stories paled in comparison to the real thing. It was as if he was right there. More than a source of powerful, it was a vision of freedom. It was something that call out to his Soul.

Cody leapt to his feet, put on a pair of pants, a T-shirt and ran out of his room. He saw his mother sitting at the kitchen table. She looked tired and worried. She looked like she was waiting for him.

Nancy immediately walked over and hug her son when she saw him.

“You scared the hell out of us last night. Are you okay?”

“Yes, I think so. What happened?” Cody asked.

“We were hoping you could tell us. According to Chuck, you push some Essence into a strange device he has and then went into a fugue.”

“A fugue?”

“Yes, according to him you went over to the worktable and started to draw all kinds of blueprints. Chuck says he tried calling out to you several times, but you just kept on drawing like you were in your own world.”

“I don’t remember any of that. Where’s Chuck?”

“He’s out in the barn.”

Then, Cody heard the sound. A sound he had never heard before last night, but one that was both familiar and wondrous. He immediately rushed out of the house and look for the source of the noise. It was obvious where it was coming from. He ran for the barn. Cody entered and a shocked gasp escaped him.

A beautiful sight greeted him.

It was a motorbike.

A working motorbike!

It was euphoria, exhilaration, excitement, all of them and above. Cody could hardly describe the feeling he was having, the words to do so didn't exist. His legs felt weak as he watched Chuck inspecting the motorbike. It was breathtaking and inspirational. Cody felt the Essence in his body stirred at the sight of the vehicle.

How did Chuck get the thing to work?

Then, Cody noticed the differences. The motorbike Chuck had was different from the one in Cody’s vision. It had the wheels, tires, brakes, frame, but some things were different. Chuck’s motorbike had no exhaust, and the smoother and deeper rumble of the engine was clear to Cody. As Cody walk closer, he saw the reason.

Chuck’s bike had a cultivation engine!

Instead of one that runs on ancient fuel, this motorbike ran with a cultivation engine. Cody realized that not only does the bike not have an exhaust, it also did not have a fuel tank. With a cultivation engine, there was no need for them.

Wait, how did I know all those terms?

As Cody walked closer, Chuck finally saw him. He stopped his inspection and quickly gave Cody a hug. Cody was surprised. Chuck was never a touchy-feely guy and knew that he must had scared his parents badly last night. Chuck ushered Cody to a chair. Both of his parents sat Cody down and demand that he explains what had happened.

Cody did not have any explanation to give them. He did not know why it happened, so he could only tell them everything he remember from his vision. Cody did not remember anything else from last night, but Chuck was there, and he told Cody what had happened while he was under the control of his vision. Everything was pretty much as Nancy said, but Chuck provided some extra details.

He had the blueprints!

“Wait, I drew these?” Cody exclaimed as he looked at the blueprints Chuck handled him.

“Yes, it was as if you were possessed.” Chuck was nodding so hard Cody fear his head could fall off. “You were drawing for over half an hour and only stopped when you ran out of paper. Then, you started working on the frame.”

“I did? I build this motorbike?”

“Motorbike? Is that what’s it’s called?” Nancy asked, a question Cody answered with a nod.

“Not all of it.” Chuck said. “You were screaming about missing parts and poor conditions of the frame while working. I didn’t even know what you were doing till I took a look at the papers you had drawn and realized they were blueprints of some sort of vehicle. I ran to get Nancy and when we returned, you were still working on it but you were getting more and more agitated. We were afraid you were going to hurt yourself so...”

“So, what happened?” Cody asked.

“I knocked you out.” Nancy said without a hint of apology. “Then, we carried you to bed, and while I look after you, Chuck came back and looked through the blueprints you had drawn.”

Cody looked at his father and asked, “You went through the blueprints? How are they? Can you build them?”

“No.” Chuck answered with a shake of his head. Cody was surprised, especially when there was a working motorbike in the barn. Chuck explained. “At least not the way you drew them. Your blueprints were good and detailed, and I could see you were trying to build an ancient vehicle of some sort, but certain parts of your blueprints were impossible to follow.”

“Why?” Cody was surprised by how upset he was at that. He had no idea why, but he wanted to build motorbikes. More importantly, he wanted to ride them.

Chuck had to explain further. “We don’t build the parts you had drawn anymore. You drew more than one blueprint, for more than one of these motorbikes, but all of them had an ancient engine that we no longer build. I had to check on the Cultivation Net to even see if the designs were correct. They were but no one used them since the start of the Cultivation Age. So, I have to replace it with a modern cultivation engine.”

“Chuck spent the night redesigning this motorbike. He hasn’t slept yet.” Nancy said while giving her husband the side-eye.

“You didn’t sleep just to redesign the motorbikes? Why?” Cody asked Chuck, his father was hardly the most hardworking cultivator he knows.

“Don’t know.” Chuck said with a frown. “It felt like something I had to do. Can’t explain better than that.”

“I know the feeling.” Cody replied with fear in his heart. The vision that had affected him had affected Chuck as well, and there was a deep silence after that.

After a minute, Chuck continued. “I also remove some parts of the vehicle that were unnecessary due to the design changes I made. Luckily, I have a working cultivation engine on hand, and since you had already finished a good portion of the vehicle, I could take over and finish it.”

“Does it work?” Cody asked about the motorbike. He was almost vibrating in his seat.

“I think so. I haven’t test it, but your blueprint was clear and as a Novice-Three cultivator, it wasn’t that hard for me to redesign it. I think it should work.”

For once, Cody did not cut down his father for his bragging. Not every cultivator who entered a Sect makes it to the top. Most do not and are stuck in middle-management as Sect Seniors. Even that was an achievement. Due to a variety of reasons, most people who entered a Sect washed out before reaching that stage.

Chuck was one of them.

Chuck had enough talent to enter a small Sect after high school, but he never went very far. According to him, it was not his fault. It was just business.

The founder of the Sect Chuck entered had a cultivation path that was focused on construction of cultivation items and taught his cultivation system to his disciples. However, a few years after Chuck joined, his Sect was taken over by a bigger Sect. According to Chuck, the founder of the Sect he was in was offer great terms and willingly sold his Sect. The founder was now an Elder in the bigger Sect, and in charge of his own department.

It was great for the founder but when a small Sect is taken over by a bigger Sect, there would be redundancy and Chuck was one of the cultivators made redundant. Since staying was not an option, Chuck left with a golden handshake.

Surprisingly, Chuck wasn’t bitter about the whole matter. He says this happens all the time in the Sects and it was just business. To Chuck, this was normal, but it was one reason why Cody did not have a good opinion of Sects in general.

However, Cody was fortunate Chuck still had his skills and the fact that his father managed to put the motorbike together in one night was nothing short of a miracle. He told Chuck that and Chuck admitted he was surprised how fast he managed to do it. His father told Cody he felt inspired when he was working on the motorbike, like it was something he was born to do. Cody had to smile at that.

Like how I was born to ride.
