Cody dismissed the thought. There was a long way to go before that come to pass.

When it comes to cultivation knowledge, the Cultivation League was the place to go. Whether it was a new Method, System or Invention, anyone can submit it to the Cultivation League. That’s what Nancy was doing now, submitting the motorbike as a new Cultivation Invention, but the submission process was long and tedious.

Creators need to first hand in a preliminary report to tell the League what was new about their cultivation invention. After the preliminary report, the League would expect subsequent reports on the strengths and drawbacks of the new invention, and what tests the creators had done to verify their claims.

If the League was interested with the reports, they would then do their own tests. The League would test, verify and validate the claims of the creators, and only after passing their stringent verification process would the League seriously considered letting the public use the new cultivation invention.

Experts would be called in to assess and grade the new invention, and the League would publish news about the new invention on their website. This was the big reason why everyone submit their new cultivation inventions to the Cultivation League.

Cultivators are always on the lookout for anything new about cultivation, and the website of the Cultivation League was the best place to find it. More than a few groups stroll the League’s website daily looking for news on the latest cultivation news, and the fact that the information was not free does not deter them one bit.

Unlike public information like the Glory List, a cultivator need to pay to view the news on the latest cultivation Methods, Systems, and Inventions. It was one of the biggest revenue maker for the Cultivation League and as the creators of a new cultivation invention, the Harder family is in line to receive a percentage of any payment the Cultivation League received from their viewers. Depending on how many views the motorbikes gets, the family may make enough to get out of Slamptown. After all, a lot of cultivation creators earn a good living from their cultivation inventions. Why not them?

Cody looked at the speed dial in front of him. Outside the joy of riding, there was another reason why he was riding to school today. This was a test run.

The Harder family was confident that the motorbikes would be approved as a new cultivation invention, but submitting a new Cultivation Method based around the motorbike was another thing altogether. There was no shortage of people who have tried to invent new cultivation methods and systems, and the Cultivation League was very careful about approving new systems for the public to use. It was said that the number of failed submissions could fill entire libraries, but despite this, no one complain. The reason for this is history.

Accumulation, Stimulation and Exhaustion weren’t the only Methods of Cultivation on Earth, they were just the most accepted and practiced. There are other cultivation Methods out there and researchers have been trying to popularizes new Methods for centuries. A few decades ago, a group of researchers managed to do just that.

The researchers discovered a way to draw Essence from one being to another. Called the Draining Method, this cultivation method requires the practitioner to draw the Essence from a living being into himself. The practitioner can use the drained essence to open his own meridians as well as to use it to fuel his own cultivation techniques.

Outside being a cultivation method, Draining also has some great side-effects, the biggest being healing. The practitioner can use the drained Essence to restore his health. However, the Cultivation League rejected the method as they claimed that it was too dangerous.

This was within their powers. The Cultivation League could reject submissions for various reasons, like if the new system was not up to standard, or if there was already a better cultivation system known to the public, or if the new cultivation system was too dangerous. The researchers released the Draining Method to the public anyway.

This was not unusual or illegal.

There are avenues for researchers to release their findings to the public, mostly for academic purposes as even failed research could inspire researchers in the future. What no one expected was how popular the Draining Method became.

This was before he was born but everything Cody read about the incident state that the public were very excited about the Draining Method when it was released. Many cultivators found it useful, easy to learn and questioned the League on their decision to reject the submission.

It did not take long for practitioners of the Draining Method to prove that the League made the right decision.

Within months of the release, cultivators began to abuse the Method. The cultivators discovered that the Draining Method could be used as an offensive technique, draining a victim of all Essence, killing them in the process. The researchers knew about this but did not think it was a problem because it would take a long time to drain someone to death. The researchers did not have imagination. They did not realize the depths cultivators would go for more power.

Practitioners of the Draining Method would kidnap people and hold them in captivity before slowly draining the life out of them. During this period, some practitioners would also conduct highly unethical research to test the limits of the Draining Method. It is rumoured that this was how some practitioners learned to control the bodies of their victims, making them puppets. The Puppeteer System was the most infamous system in the Draining Method. Some practitioners even claimed that draining the Essence from a victim result in a rush of energy for them, making it an addictive sensation.

The Draining Method caused such problems that the Cultivation League had to ban it. There were some pushback from the public, but not much, especially when the League claimed that many of the practitioners were eventually driven mad by it. No one outside the Cultivation League ever verified the last claim, and it sounds highly unlikely to Cody, but the public accepts it and to this day, the Draining Method is banned. The reputation of the method is so bad it is considered one of the most dangerous cultivation methods in existence.

Luckily, the Harder’s new system was nothing like that. They weren’t trying to introduce a new Method, but to add a new System to a Method that was already established. That makes things easier, but you can’t just submit a new cultivation system to the Cultivation League and expect them to take it seriously. The League still expect the reports.

Cody wonders if it was worth it. Not everyone release their research to the Cultivation League. Some Sects, dojos, and cultivation families keep their cultivation methods and systems secret and look down on researchers who gives away their work for fame and money. They think this dilute the purity of cultivation.

However, the Sects and families keep their mouths shut because the practice is popular and it did give rise to the cultivation research industry where researchers, amateur or otherwise, tried to invent new and unique cultivation systems to satisfy the desire of the masses.

Not that most of them succeed.

Making a living from cultivation research was easier said than done. Cultivators may be able view any of the new cultivation systems that tickled their fancy from the League website, but the submission process to the League is so difficult and time-consuming some researchers just outright ignore the Cultivation League.

They keep their knowledge to themselves.

That’s how the Hidden Masters came about. Hidden Masters are cultivators who came up with their own cultivation systems and, for whatever reasons, never bothered informing the League about them. Most Hidden Masters only teach their methods and systems to a few trusted disciples, and Cody would not mind if this was the case for his family. In fact, there was a good chance they would do this if they fail the verification process.

They should spread the joy of riding.

The Harder family would be in good company. Some of the Hidden Masters had submitted their research to the Cultivation League, but their works were rejected for one reason or another. That does not mean their new cultivation systems do not work.

Unfortunately, most cultivators accept the will of the Cultivation League as gospel and look at Hidden Masters with a sceptical eye. Cody used to feel the same, but after his vision, his views on the matter began to change.

Fuck the man.

Cody had no idea what that exactly means, but he remembered the feelings the biker had for those in authority. The disdain the biker felt for them, and his will to do what he want when he want.

Freedom.

If Nancy was correct, and Cody’s improvement was tied to how close he live his life according to the vision, it might be better for Cody if the League rejected the Harder’s application.

Cody cleared his head, thinking about the future was not something you should be doing when riding. Riding was about being in the moment, and it was dangerous not to have full concentrate. Cody enjoyed the air blowing in his face and rode on.

The scenery changed as the suburb of Advancetown came into view. The road into the suburb was flanked by two large white houses with well-trimmed gardens and hedges. The road ahead was clear, but Cody slowed down as he came up to a zebra crossing. An old man and a man in jacket and slacks were standing by the side of the road and they were both looking at Cody with open mouths. They had never never seen a motorbike before and Cody felt an irresistible compulsion to stop and show off. He thought better of it.

At least at first.
