In two swings Butcher’s knife cleanly detaches Eve’s fingers from her hands, her now bright red blood had immediately begun to pool around her hands. After the cut Butcher picked up each individual finger an brought them over to show the kids
“See, isn't this cool? First I’ll teach you about the skeleton part of the fingers, the scientific term for finger bones is the term ‘Phalanges’ which I’m sure you’ve heard of before!”
He winks at the children, and although they’re now pale and somewhat nauseous from witnessing the detachment of Eve’s fingers, they still managed to shake their heads
“You don’t know? Man your parents didn’t raise you right, not like they can do it now either, that’s on them for not doing their jobs properly though. Ah you know what? I’ll just teach you about the entire hand first, that’ll be a lot quicker than going by each body part.”
Butcher heads back over to Eve and casually severs her hands from below the wrist and brings it back over to show the kids along with the finger
“Ok here we go again, now like I said before the finger bones are called ‘Phalanges’, each finger has three phalanges except the thumb which has two. The phalanges are connected to five other bones called ‘Metacarpal’ bones, these bones are located in the middle of the hand and then the metacarpal bones are connected to ‘Carpal’ bones which make up your wrist, can you guess how many carpal bones there are?”
Izumi spoke up trying to be brave
“Six?”
“Bzz! Wrong! The answer is eight! Here’s punishment for getting it wrong!”
Butcher unties Izumi’s right arm and pulls it in front of him. Izumi didn’t feel too scared because Butcher didn’t look as scary as when he cut off Eve’s fingers, Butcher gently grabbed Izumi’s finger and moved it around in a playful motion until suddenly Izumi’s screams pierced the sky
“AIIEEEEE! My finger! My finger!”
Izumi’s finger now lays on Butcher’s tongue, and then he begun to chew
“Mmm, not too bony but not a lot of meat, although…”
Vulgar slurping sounds came from Butcher’s mouth
“What sweet blood! Not too rich or thin either, it’s perfect!”
Kosuke watched in horror as Butcher continued slurping and chewing until the inevitable swallow
“Man, that was good! Kinda wanna keep you around just so I can have more, oh you fainted, guess I’ll take the other pinkie.”
As this reached Kosuke’s ear he immediately tried to break free to help the unconscious Izumi
“No! Stop hurting him! Stop hurting Izumi!”
Kosuke continued to flail about until he managed to loosen an arm
“Alright that’s enough for you.”
Butcher whacked Kosuke with the side of the blade, a crack sound could be heard and he was knocked out instantly.
Butcher turned back around to Eve who was still paralysed on the ground
“Since those two are asleep I think I’ll finish up with you first.”
Butcher began to live up to his name as he started to dissect Eve’s limbs joint by joint while she was conscious. At least fifteen minutes had passed by while Butcher was happily cutting away at Eve’s body until a singular bullet was shot into his chest, just under the collar bone and almost immediately after, another bullet nicked his ear. Butcher immediately dived for cover behind the plants while moving behind the shine for better concealment.

While behind cover Butcher pulled out a compact telescope that was in his jacket, he attempted to locate the sniper but didn’t have a clear trajectory he could go off of before another shot flew by his head, he managed to spot a small boat offshore with a flag bearing the symbol of twin pistols surrounded by a red circle, Eve and Kaito’s old camp had arrived.
As Butcher continued to survey the boat he noticed something strange, there seemed to only be two people aboard the boat, one holding the sniper rifle and another at the helm. Before he could properly piece together why there seemed to be too few members, a stun grenade rolled in from either side of him going off immediately, though the flash barely hindered his eyesight Butcher’s hearing was impaired as a loud ringing echoed in his head.
“God damn it!”
Butcher yelled in frustration as he retreated back into the forest he had chased Eve through and dragged his knife along with him, in his retreat a barrage of bullets fired in his direction but to his fortune the trees provided enough cover.
As it seems clear that it’s now safe to move, two men in black gear came up from the very area that the car fell from and approached the shrine where the children sat unconscious and where Eve’s now dismembered corpse now lay
“Sadistic bastard, she never deserved an end like this. Number 6, collect the children, we’re taking them as recruits.”
The shorter man, Number 6, released the children from their bindings and placed them onto his shoulders
“Shall we call the cleaners Number 3?”
After one last regretful look at Eve’s corpse he turned around to leave
“Yeah, but tell them to carry the bodies back to base so we can give them a proper send off.”
As they proceed to head off Number 6 feels something warm and wet drip onto his face
“3! We have a problem!”
Number 3 turned around to see blood coming from Kosuke’s ear and his expression shifted to that of worry
“He might have a brain bleed, we have to get him medical attention as fast as possible!”
Number 6 nodded in agreement
“There’s a problem, the closest medical centre is a clinic and nearly 40 minutes away, not to mention that that maniac is still loose.”
Number 3 takes Kosuke from 6’s arm
“If it’s the only option then we’ll have to risk it.”
As soon as these words were muttered the two men began an intense sprint in the direction their map pointed for the clinic.
The roads were empty as nearly all the residents were gathered at the demolished home making travel more convenient but also difficult as most cars were locked without keys and neither of the men knew how to hotwire a car.
As more time went by Kosuke’s complexion and heart rate were both rapidly declining, as a last ditch effort Number 3 ditched his heavy equipment aside from the navigation, because of this rash decision Number 3 managed to reach the clinic in 5 more minutes and as soon as he managed to reach it he immediately shouted for help
“GET A DOCTOR! I HAVE A CHILD WITH A BRAIN BLEED!”
All nearby staff immediately rushed over to take Kosuke into emergency medical care. A few minutes later Number 6 entered the clinic with the still unconscious Izumi and the equipment that Number 3 dropped
“You get him in time?”
Number 3 let out a heavy sigh
“I hope so.”
“But it’s strange, even though I’ve worked with you for 4 years yet I’ve never seen you react to something so emotionally before.”
Number 3 gestured for 6 to take a seat
“I suppose I should tell you a story about the legends of our camp, Numbers 1 and 2.”
“What’re you talking about? I’ve already heard about them.”
“Oh yeah? Let’s see what you know.”
“I heard they were absolute legends and saviours of the camp, the best assault and scouting agents.”
3 let out a small chuckle
“Kid that barely scratches the tip, first off Number 1 agent Hino Kaito and Number 2 agent Eve Park were called saviours on our side but to the enemy they were known as the Devils of Brain and Blood. Number 1 was unrivalled in any weapon field, he knew so many ways to kill a guy that he came up with his own methods just because he was bored and Number 2? She was the master of tactics and scouting, all the strategic maps we have were all made by her. I wish I could tell you more about them but you had to see it to believe.”
6 nodded along to 3’s story
“Hearing you praise them this much makes me wish I joined earlier.”
“Yeah well… They were somethin’ else.”
