Chapter 17 - The Other Side

Date: 7/04/2013

Kosuke sat still and patiently waited as Yellow attached several wires to his head and prepared a strange machine

“This equipment seems a bit outdated, are you sure this will be effective?”

Yellow seems to huff while preparing the machine

“Yes child, it’s effective and all we’re doing is testing the waters, now be quiet so I can work properly.”

“You sure are confident in these pieces of junk.”

“You dare speak to me in that tone?”

Yellow looked up and saw Kosuke had transformed once again and it took them by surprise

“Well, aren't you fascinating?”

The transformed Kosuke seemed to get all relaxed in the chair

“Why yes I am fascinating, thank you for noticing. Oh and I do apologise for my earlier outburst.”

He pointed at his nose referring to the headbutt Yellow had received earlier

“Yes yes all is forgiven and all that, now what are you? And who are you exactly?”

The transformed Kosuke started removing the wiring from his head

“Oh excellent questions, I suppose I’ll answer them but not for free of course.”

“You wish to strike a deal with me? Without knowing who I am or what capabilities I possess?”

“Yes, I believe I made myself clear.”

Yellow was understandably weary but his curiosity couldn’t be held back

“Hmm… very well, I’ll accept as soon as you stop dipping blood over my chair. But before we begin, what is your name? I assume you wished to be addressed differently.”

The transformed Kosuke wiped the leaking blood from his eyes

“A name huh? Alright I suppose Hemlock will do for now.”

“Very well, now can we proceed with my questions?”

Hemlock got comfortable in his chair first before answering any questions

“Oh right, your who, what, when, where stuff, I assume you want to know when and how I exist?”

Yellow responded with a nod

“Ok well I’m just gonna be real simple so don’t expect anything complex.”

Yellow just nodded once again

“Alright, so I was created when Kosuke saw his mother get chopped up in front of him, however I didn’t manifest until earlier today, you can think of me like a parasite that has only just matured enough to start coming out of its host. And then… uh… hmm… I think that’s it, maybe ask some questions so I remember more stuff.”

“I see, so you are a split personality created to handle the load of immense trauma and emotional scarring the boy suffered in that moment, how fascinating.”

Hemlock sat on the edge of the chair kicking his legs that were hanging off the edge and suddenly remembered another detail about himself

“Oh that’s right! One more thing, the reason my other half is so emotionless and such is actually because I pretty much have it all.”

“All his emotions?”

“Yep, although the warmer emotions like joy and such are slowly being reabsorbed, which isn’t a good thing. If he only takes back his warm emotions it’ll affect his performance as a soldier, and that means he’ll hesitate to kill and you guys won’t be wanting that to happen.”

The yellow masked man jotted down what Hemlock was saying in a notebook he seemingly brought out from nowhere.

After some more banter between the two, Yellow had allowed Hemlock to walk out of the room only for him to be greeted by another masked figure, this time it was the one wearing the red mask.

Without a word Red threw a punch aiming at Hemlock’s head however Hemlock didn’t move or indicate any signs of dodging, this of course led to him getting struck on the nose and falling backwards onto the floor.

It was a heavy strike, especially to a 7 year old boy. Hemlock clutched his nose in pain and was now slightly dripping blood.

“Hey! You’re not meant to actually hit me!”

The words spoken through Red’s mask was more distorted than the others

“If an attack is thrown in your direction then you dodge or block, such actions are the instincts of the human body but those who ignore these instincts are fools.”

Without another word Red simply left without offering Hemlock a hand to help himself up.

Hemlock stood up and cleaned himself up a little and turned himself back into Kosuke but not before shooting an annoyed face in the direction that Red had departed in. As Kosuke's eyes were focusing he seemed confused as to why he was back outside but didn’t question it and proceeded to walk through the path he was brought but backwards eventually leading him to the door of the white room.

As he stood there a figure wearing the standard black mask approached him and handed over a blindfold, no words were exchanged but Kosuke knew what he needed to do regardless and wrapped the piece of cloth around his eyes.

Once the blindfold was tightly secured Kosuke could feel a rope in his palm and he made sure to put a firm grip on it. Once Kosuke felt the tug on the rope he knew to follow and after 30 seconds he found himself walking up what he believed to be a spiral staircase, a very long, cold and empty staircase.

Before he knew it Kosuke was walking on grass and when he felt the rope go slack as well as a finger tap on his back, he knew he could take off his blindfold but was immediately greeted by the blinding sun and the door leading to his home.

After Kosuke had left, the masks sat around a table in what seemed to be a conference room, at the head of the table sat the figure who wore the White mask and they sat with their elbows placed on the edge of the table and fingers interlocked.

“Purple, call in your student.”

“As you say Red.”

They poked their head out the door and yelled into the hallway as if they were calling their child to join the table

“Oh little pinkie poo~! Mama’s calling for you!”

Though it wasn’t visible some of the other members were cringing behind their masks.

As Purple’s voice echoed through the cave a familiar looking figure approached the door, they were very short and seemed to be missing a couple of fingers.

Once the small figure entered the room they peeled the black layer of the mask off to reveal a hot pink colour but their hand slipped accidentally knocking their mask off to reveal a very familiar young Japanese boy.
