YEAR: 2011
Eve entered the house last seeing Kosuke and Izumi about to start eating the sushi
“Hey! Not yet boys, go wash your hands.”
“Aww.”
Izumi was hungry but he followed Kosuke to the bathroom, meanwhile Eve headed back up to her bedroom where Kaito had been waiting in the same position as when Eve left the room
“You sure took your time.”
Kaito’s breathing was shallow and rapid from losing a lot of blood
“Oh calm down you big baby, you’ve had worse.”
“Well excuse me for liking my blood to be in my body rather than it pouring into the bedsheets.”
Eve extracted the last of the shrapnel from Kaito’s leg and quickly patched him back up.
“You could’ve done it that quickly?”
Kaito shot Eve a look of annoyance while also being impressed.
“Yes I could, now put your pants on and come downstairs, I went to pick up dinner with Kosuke and Izumi.”
Kaito stood up with Eve’s support and washed the remainder of the blood from his body. After drying off, Eve helped Kaito with getting dressed since he had some trouble moving his leg
“You ok to walk by yourself?”
Kaito grunted a little as he placed his leg on the ground
“Yeah I’ll be fine, just a little slow.”
“Well you better fix the slow part because Kosuke and Izumi might be eating all the sushi right now.”
As they descended down the stairs Kaito saw both of the boys passed out on the couch, Eve sighed as her eyes also fell on the boys
“Well it is quite late, I’ll carry them both to bed.”
She said while scooping up Izumi in her arms
“Start without me.”
Kaito watched Eve carry both Izumi and Kosuke to their room and he couldn’t help but have a smile of tranquillity spread across his lips, the moment was so peaceful that the events that happened earlier in the day had slipped from his mind
As Eve pulled the covers over Kosuke, he began to stir but calmed down and slept peacefully as Eve slowly brushed his hair, putting a smile on her face.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
As Eve walked out of the bedroom she saw Kaito sitting at the table still holding that peaceful smile
“What made you so happy?”
Eve said while having a similar expression painted on her face
“I could say the same to you.”
Eve began walking over to the table
“I’ll tell you if you tell me”
Kaito let out a small chuckle
“I guess the answer would be you, now it’s your turn.”
Eve let out a small giggle as she stood behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist
“That is such a cheesy answer… but I’m the same.”
She gave him a little peck on the cheek and grabbed herself a plate with some sushi on it.
Eve picked up one of the sashimi on her plate but her hand started trembling and she started tearing up
“We have to send them away don’t we?”
She tried to hide it, but her voice was shaky
Kaito’s smile had vanished as he put his hand on Eve’s while looking into her eyes
“As long as they’re safe, we’ve lost too many from our family already, let’s at least make sure that those children can live normally.”
“Yeah you’re right, I’m sorry I broke down like that.”
Eve wiped the tears from her eyes as she ate some food
“There’s nothing for you to be sorry for, this was just a result of my selfishness, urging us to go on one last mission.”
Kaito also began to tear up but held his composure
“Let’s just rest for today and figure out this mess tomorrow.”
Kaito and Eve began walking to their bedroom but took a glance at Kosuke and Izumi sleeping peacefully next to each other
“I wish it could stay like this forever”
Eve began tearing up again but this time the tears streamed down down her cheek and Kaito pulled her into his chest to provide her some form comfort
“Come on, let’s go to bed.”
Kaito said so in a soft voice as the two of them went up the stairs to their room to rest.
. . .
As the sun began to rise, a very tired Eve got up off the floor as she didn’t want to sleep in a blood-soaked bed. Kaito also woke up alongside her and began to remove the red bed sheet from the mattress and went outside to properly dispose of it.
The two of them stayed outside a little longer to take in the smell of the early morning sea breeze and watch as the sun slowly rose before heading back inside
“Just these few minutes could’ve been dangerous Kaito, it’s possible that organisation is closer than we might know.”
“I know, but they found us really quick, it’s only been 2 years since we took that final job after all.”
“Yeah, but who would’ve thought that a 17 year old kid was the head of an organisation that was made up almost entirely of killers. And what did they call themselves again? I know it was slaughter something but I can’t really remember.”
“It was Slaughter House I believe, and all the members that we caught would call their boss Butcher.”
Eve chuckled a little in response to hearing the names
“At least they have a theme, I remember our camp only gave us numbers, isn’t that right No. 1?”
“Why yes it is No.2.”
Her grin then faded away almost instantly and she then put on a stern face
“Now enough banter, we know they’re closing in on this house so let’s get prepared. Did you happen to contact our old camp?”
Kaito put on a similar expression
“Yeah, I contacted them, but first we have to move the kids to make sure they aren’t caught.”
“Yeah, I’ll go get them.”
Eve walked to the bedroom where the boys were still sleeping, and took a final look at their sleeping faces as she walked towards them and started shaking them gently to wake them up.
“Boys wake up, we’re going to take a boat ride to the lighthouse!”
Both of the boys stirred awake
“The lighthouse? Why?”
Kosuke sounded very confused by the sudden hastiness of his parents as he was still waking up and Izumi also began to get up, equally confused but for a different reason.
“Mmm, lighthouse? Why lighthouse?”
Izumi grumbled a little and as he had woken up a little more looked more puzzled as he turned his head to analyse the room to try see something
“What’s that beep sound coming from?”
All the colour drained from Eve and Kaito’s face as they too picked up on the beeping sound Izumi heard
*beep* . . . *beep* . . . *beep* . . . *beep* . . . *beep* . . . *beep* . . . *beep* . . . *beep*
