Volunteering is better than being commanded to do something, right?

I wiped sweat off my brow.

Lifting four hundred and fifty pounds was tough. No, lifting that much fifty times with no breaks in between was tough.

I released my hold over the weights and crashed to the ground. I turned to the lab coat nerd with a smirk, flexing my biceps. Sadly, she wasn’t even paying me any attention. Her eyes were glued to her tablet.

“Okay, now do the patterns over again. Figure eight, swan roll, and the swallow dive. Fifty reps.” Her voice was dead of emotions for my feelings.

Ten, forty-five pound plates whipped through the air. First doing a sideways eight, shifting out of a curve into a swallow dive. Breaking off the dive five feet above the ground to glide like a swan with legs disturbing the water surface.

I did this fifty times, but the strain on my mind was so encompassing that I had to take a lengthy break. Called quits for the day, even though the mad sci-nerd wanted to keep going. Even though my energy was unlimited, my mind energy wasn’t. Without breaks, I was doomed to pass out or worse.

Get eaten.

So for safety sake, I had no problems with being a testing pig to expand my horizons. Plus I wasn’t all that creative. For example, I had only been infusing my ability into my limbs to make me faster and stronger. While this was all that was needed then.

It wasn’t all that was needed now. Definitely since stronger mutant zombies or beasts could sense me.

After a short nap, I allowed April to help power level me. This was my relaxation time and her only way to bully me. To be honest, I quit after dying in a low level dungeon several times. Or doing pvp and someone camped at my respawn spot. The someone— was her.

How cruel, right?

Over next month, all I did was train, relaxed, eat, fuck, and sleep. How great was my life, right? Sadly, everything had to come to an end and Mrs. Harper was like one of those glowing signs that said.

Your end is near.

One way to hell.

Good evening, sir. Welcome to Hotel Ten Hells.

I clumsily used my chopsticks to put noodles into this super-large spoon. This little Korean Chef told me that the spoon was just to hold the noodles while the chop stick was the real eating utensil. Maybe, sip the broth from the spoon.

Cough, I was born in america. I was raised to eat from a fork like a true brute. Doing something so delicate as eating with two sticks. Please, leave that for the rich folks.

However, the guy sat across from me. Staring at me like I was the next Hokage or something, not giving me any reprieve. So I continued struggling with the chopsticks, having to readjust them a few tens of times.

My lips couldn’t help trembling upon hearing the clacking of heels on the tile flooring. I glanced back and duck my head.

“She is coming, right this way.” Chef Suk grinned evilly

I glance over the top of the booth seat. She was indeed coming this way. I sighed, snatched a gimbap into my mouth with a tendril.

“Chase, stop hiding. Come, come. We have a problem.” Mrs. Harper barked.

Sighing, I loaded a plate with gimbap and followed.

We walked into a room that was vastly more hi-tech then the rest of the compound. It was like watching a military movie and seeing a bunch of computers spread around. People moving in between them, one guy with his arm cross pacing around.

Though this room was more hi-tech than that. There were holographic screens, a map floated in the middle just below waist level, a circular platform surrounded that with screens flickering in and out of existence quicker than the eye can catch.

Even so, I was getting a live feed of data to my mind. It was a side effect, picking up frequencies that is. There was a wall decorated with live feeds of military or powerful beasts.

Mrs. Harper dropped into a chair as if fetching me was the hardest thing in the world. Someone came and brought her bottle of water. She exaggeratedly took a long gulp, fanning herself.

“Chase, this is my Commander of my little force. Mitchell, he has intelligence enhanced ability. So he will be guiding the missions from here on out. Anyway, we have a situation, one of my old friends has just made contact and she stuck there.” Mrs. Harper waved at the screen.

A series of skyscrapers were displayed but one was highlighted in blinking red.

“Okay, I hear you but what does this have to do with me?” I asked, while stuffing my face of gimbap.

Mrs. Harper eyes narrowed slightly. “We need to put together a team to go rescue them. They are low on food and surrounded by more powerful mutant beasts. As one of the strongest metas here, you will lead a team to rescue them. Sounds clear?”

I was about to object but Jada, Autumn, and little adorable April entered my mind eye.

“Okay, give me two. Ralph is one. The second needs to be capable of quick movement in small bursts. Otherwise, they are a burden. We will evacuate on the roof. Swords, daggers, or any cold weapons. Guns are utterly useless.” I got somewhat serious.

Pulling data on the building layout, I began making plans in my head.

Mrs. Harper smiled. “You heard him, Mitchell. Claire, show Chase the prototype.”

I glanced around and the so-called Claire came running from a side office. He grabbed my arm and tried to drag me away.

My lips twitched as I gave him a low level jolt. “Hey bud, don’t just go grabbing people.”

He released my arm and shook his hand. “Sorry, sorry. Please follow me.”

Claire, the man, led me through a series of hidden doors to a lab with actual weaponry. We stopped in front of a greyish suit that looked like something from Iron man or Aliens V Predators. Sleek grey metallic shine.

“This is only a prototype but the gist of it is that it will allow you to communicate with your team. The metal is an alloy blended between titanium and beast bones of a lightning beast Nina killed. Our test can’t reach the output that your ability can but we are sure it won’t melt. Should be extremely compatible with you and provide a layer of defense. Now let me explain how to use it.” Claire dribbled on for a while.

He had grunts help me into the suit and I wondered where they slept. I never saw them in a cafe or maybe they had a secret room. Also, who the fuck was this prepared for an apolocyapse or better yet. What the fuck were they actually doing before this shitstorm happen.
