Beware of Zombies
Make me more powerful, you say? I will be a God, you say? Say no more..

Make me more powerful, you say? I will be a God, you say? Say no more..

Stretching out, I hit the pause time on my phone.

Tsk, six minutes and twenty-four seconds.

This is all the sleep I managed to accrue after days of being wide awake.

I cursed at myself for experimenting with my performance like this. Those pesky sci-nerds are really getting to me.

Slumbering out of bed that wasn’t mine, I dressed quickly. I had this odd feeling that I should flee fast. The moment I opened the door and took a second to stretch through another yawn, Mrs. Harper’s nerd crew flew around the edge.

“Oh, Chase! Chase dear, don’t run.” Mrs. Harper laughed.

They picked up speed and I thought about running but their thoughts intrigued me a bit.

“Hey, hey. You love me, right?” Mrs. Harper snatched my arm.

“No, why would I love such a weirdo like yourself?”

Mrs. Harper touched her chest with her other hand. “How dare you proflame me like so!” Her face couldn’t have broken out into a wider grin than if I called her the most beautiful species on the planet. “Oh, yeah. There is a thunder storm about to happen in two hours. It’s about an hour and half flight out that way.”

“And?” I asked.

“We believed that you are at a point where you need a strong source of energy to finish your transformation while you are still undergoing the transformation process. Otherwise, this would continue to be your level of power.” Sci-nerd one said.

“Oh, but what if I die instead?” I raised my eyebrow while questioning.

“Well, the voltage would be a lot higher than siphoning electrical currents from power lines…” Sci-nerd two paused. “But your other option is sucking up huge amounts of electricity at once which is a lot more dangerous considering it might leave you defenseless.” She shrugged.

I licked my lips in thought. These nerds really were all or nothing for the truth. I could tell that they thought this would only have a forty percent change of completing my transformation. Replacing my human genes and potentially making me the first immortal being. Well the first within their hands, they had news that the military had a couple users that could control elements on periodic tables or skin tougher than certain metal.

The most important point is that the military drowned a water meta and he now has the ability to transform into a water like body. However, the same attempt to do that to earth users, burying him in a lot of earth.

Killed him. Deader than dead.

Fire user. The screams were still replaying in Sci-nerd one mind in the background.

Though I was stupid to admit this, but I wanted to give it a try anyway. I felt that I was different, haha. How many books protags said this before being cut down like wheat?

“Okay, get me a ride and food.” I made my demands.

The wind blew through my hair, whipping it back. As the best man on the helicopter, I had to position my good side, at all times. My dimpled smile, blue eyes were always at their best position. Occasional flickers of electricity help me maintain that friendly yet unapproachable look.

Aye, I bet the ladies were just eating it.

Sci-nerd one thoughts: I wondered if he can safely take a billion volts? If he dies, I wonder how much of his body would be usable study material. I better make a plan in case such a thing happens.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

Sci-nerd two thoughts: He can’t fly. So I wondered if he knows that for him to get struck that he has to send up positive lightning to attract the cloud leading bolt? Hm, I should be on standby with a medkit to take as many samples as possible if he passes out again. Don’t want to let a chance for samples to pass by. I’ll use the big needles.

Cough.

I glanced back to see them both touching their lips like they were in ecstasy. I shivered and now know, whatever I do. I need to learn to fly or teleport or something. Cannot pass out in front of these weirdos.

We appeared quickly in an area where thunderclouds were riling up. I gazed up in fear at it looking like giant leviathan, stretching far across the horizons. You couldn’t make heads or tails of the beginning or ending of the thing.

The flickering of lightning within the midst was plenty of indication that it was starting up. I glanced at the tallest skyscraper which was just a pillar at the top. It would be the best location but there was a dome then pillar extending into the sky.

It was too damn wide to wrap my arms around. Have they lost their bloody minds?

I dug through my bag, preparing myself for the worst.

Clicking my tongue, I double check my grappling hook and two hiking axes positions.

Sighing, I bend my knees.

Gathering power.

I heard the first sound of thunder, taking it as my note to blast off.

I smirk, the helicopter dropped a few feet before stabilizing.

I cut great distances out of my climb, landing more than fifty percent of the way up. I slammed my axes into the pillar and began a slow slide down.

My slide jerking to a stop before I lost a lot of my gains.

I lick my lips and look down. I couldn’t even wipe the sweat fears off my brow. I started the climb up, using pure arm strength. This was the most daring I've ever been in my life.

Never again!

I climbed to the top of the oval pillar and stood upon the surface that looked bigger than it seemed. Plenty of room to sit down, legs cross. I unraveled my hook, wrapping the rope around my body, tying off the ends before plunging the hook in the gap between my legs. Deep into the pillar.

Now I was ready.

Time to psyche myself up.

Lightning crackled in the sky, the greyish-purple clouds were within arm reach. My heart was in my throat. Did I really want to be invincible or immortal?

Yes, who didn’t want to live forever.

Did I want power to be the strongest?

No, didn’t really care about having the strongest power. Just the strongest means to protect my life.

Just looking around, I could see the back of four giant beasts resting in their territories within the big city. Smoke rose up like shadow claws, buildings tilted or existed in the form of rubble. What about those that haven’t even made it into populated areas yet? How much stronger are those beasts?

What about the shit in the ocean that was bigger than boats? Will we see a true Godzilla? Did I want my life to be in the hands of the supposedly stronger? Did I want to have to rely on men that were safe to determine if I was worth saving or not?

I, honestly, wouldn’t have minded before I had these powers. Did this mean that I should take the chance to ensure I was my own God?

What the fuck am I saying?

I am a mobster!

When have we ever lived by the rules that are only there to make sheep of people for smarter men to control? I will be my own God. My life will exist in the palm of my left hand. My death in the grasp of my right.

Fuck it!

I swallow back down my heart but it shoots right back up.

I still channel electricity into my body. Thinking, positive. Positive.

Flash!

Bang!

The strongest pain that hit me, first came from my eyes. They pop like popcorn in the microwave.

Flash!

Bang!

I was falling, I knew that.

Flash!

Bang!

Darkness was all that I felt.

No pain.

I didn’t even know if I was screaming or not.

I didn’t even know if I was still being struck or not.

Blank out.

Damn, I should have known.

Blank out.

Hm, wait—. I’m still alive?

Flash!

Bang.

Black out!
