“Mages are a complicated bunch. The name itself doesn’t mean much considering just how many different kinds of mages there are. Technically only sorcerers have to be born with their power, but even that isn’t always the case. The mage college has made it a policy to accept all flavour of mage. Some of the kids brought here don’t even have any magic at all. They just wanted an excuse to send them away.”~Councilor of novices, Greda Stonefist.
Bernin brought Kirrin back to his hospital bed. He was pretty subdued on the way there, seemingly processing the last few hours. It had been a lot as they talked some more about what the next few days will hold for him. She saw Fredrick standing there, ready to receive the both of them.
“Ah, right on time. Kirrin, we packed your stuff back up. We have found you a new home. I’m not sure if Bernin explained the process. For now, just know that there are others like you waiting for you. After this no more moving for a while, unless you want to of course. You can always find me here or ask after ’Fredrick the fabulous’.”
Bernin let Kirrin grab his stuff as she got a quick nod from Fredrick.
“Bernin, why don’t you take him there. It’s one of the novice homes. Purple engravers.”
She nodded again.
“I know it, I’ll take him there in a bit.”
Kirrin looked between the two of them.
“Purple engravers? What does that mean?”
“The novice homes are community homes. Generally there are 5-10 people living there. You can move of course. They are called novice homes as the people living there are novices. What exactly that means will come later.”

Bernin waited patiently while Kirrin grabbed his stuff together. When he looked up at her, she nodded and started walking. After this she also had to go grab her assignment for her next trip. It was going to be a long day.

Kirrin was nervous. That really wasn’t anything new, but he felt it now. He had been moving from place to place for a while now. He hadn’t really settled anywhere. If he understood it correctly, that would change now. There would be others there as well, hopefully they would be nice.
The house they walked towards was a strange house. It began with a flat base, but had multiple offshoots. That almost grew out of it. The house was mainly purple, but he had expected that. What he hadn’t thought about was just how many shades of purple there were. They seemed to flow into one another. Some of the offshoots even had patterns flowing into images. They didn’t make much sense to him, but it sure seemed pretty.
The door was a solid shape of purple with a clear doorknob on the front. As they got closer, bernin knocked twice, producing a clear note. He straightened himself, time to make a good impression.
The door flew open and he saw three people in a hallway. The hallway looked pretty messy, with clothes on hangers that seemed much too high to reach. There were also other items laying on the floor, but he didn’t have time to identify them.
Before he even spoke, the girl in the front squealed and ran forward, grabbing him in a tight hug. It was a blur of different colours and sudden warmth.
“Look at him Henry, he’s so cute. Don’t worry about anything, I always wanted to be a big sister.”
“Stacy.. I’m not sure he can breathe right now..”
“Oh no, that’s probably a bad thing. I know, we have some soup leftover. I’m sure that nothing cannot be fixed by a good soup.”
Before he could respond, he was whisked into the house. A lot was happening, but the girl, Stacy, probably, hadn’t let go of his hand in the rush. She was leading him further into the house. He saw 2 others on the stairs to what looked like a second floor before being whisked into a kitchen.
Her hand felt warm though, he supposed that was a good sign at least.
