Chapter 5 - Auction

Chapter 5 - Auction

“Excuse me, the Land Auction will be held here, right?”

Arden felt the need to speak to the clerk in the lobby of the auction house. When he looked around, he could not see a large crowd interested in these land sales. He couldn't make sense of it.

“Yes, it will take place in the main hall in an hour.”

"Ahem, if you don't mind me asking, why is the hall so empty?" said Arden.

The attendant didn't seem to want much to be heard, so he leaned over Arden and Matt and spoke in a low voice. “If you ask me, they should be grateful to have found so many people!. Who should pay their precious money for the lands in the middle of these wild lands so that they can rejoice if they can collect a few hundred golds.”

The attendant, who seemed to like the gossip, said, “You can reach the main hall through the big door ahead.” After saying that, he left.

“Well, I guess this looks like we're the only ones excited for land sales,” Matt said.

“I think that's a good sign for us at least there will be less competition,” Arden said.

Arden and Matt made their way to the auction hall. When they passed the big door of the hall, a rather empty hall greeted the duo. The hall was quite large, you could easily fit 200 people. The two friends found a quiet place and sat down. And they started chatting to pass the time.

“What do they teach you in this adventurous Training, Matt?” said Arden. They couldn't talk much about it as he was preoccupied with the inn's business, and Arden was a little curious about the training his friend was looking forward to.

When Matt heard this question from Arden, he started to explain excitedly.

“Everything about Adventurers, survival methods, some poisonous plants, how to fight in Dungen. Most importantly, simple sorcery and melee training”

“It looks pretty good? Shall I join too? How much did you say the fee was?"

“1 gold friend but if you ask me you should definitely attend and the trainings are until noon, you can look at the construction of the inn in the afternoons?” Matt wanted Arden to attend the training. At least it was better to start an unfamiliar business with a familiar face than in an environment where he didn't know anyone.

While their conversation was continuing with excitement, a coughing sound came from the stage in front of them and the attention of the duo was drawn to the stage.

“Ahem”

After making sure that the noises in the hall had stopped, the short Dwarf on the stage began to speak loudly.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

“Welcome to the auction to sell land around Petra”

It was obvious that the Dwarf on stage was quite unhappy with the low interest in sales. There were 20-30 people in the hall.

“There is a number assigned to each land, we will start sales in turn. If you look behind me you can see the land to be sold”

The presenter running the auction had begun to introduce the plots on the map floating in the air behind him.

“Dude, that's the skill I told you about,” Arden said when he saw the same skill being used.

Matt was a little taken aback by what he saw in front of him.

"My friend, this world is very strange, in some things they are hundreds of years behind us, in some things they are ahead of us"

Arden and Matt have talked about this before. While they were still using horse-drawn carriages to go from one place to another, a miniature 3D map could be projected into the middle of the hall like a hologram. This was strange in the simplest term.

“Yes, ladies and gentlemen, without wasting time, let's move on to the sale of land number 1, then. Land number 1 is located just outside the eastern gate of petra. Like all plots, our opening price is 10 gold”

“11 gold coins,” said one of the crowd.

“55 gold”

“Yes, 55 gold has arrived, does anyone have more bids? 1…2… Yes, we sold our first land for 55 gold, don't be sad for those who were not successful in purchasing, we have many more lands. “

The selling price frightened Arden a little. But over time, when the lands a little outside of Petra were on sale, he was relieved to see that the prices had decreased considerably. In fact, some lands were not sold because they did not receive an offer.

“Yes, we are starting the sale of land no. 38. This land is 10 minutes walking distance from petra and right next to the bluegrass lake, the bids have started.”

This was the land that the arden wanted to buy. Although Host had started the sale of the land, no one had made an offer. Finally, at the far corner of the arden's seat, someone raised his hand.

“11 gold”

Arden spoke up, hoping this didn't turn into a bid war.

“12 gold”

His heart started pounding after Arden made the offer. He could go as high as 20, but he didn't want to do it if possible. Fortunately, the other bidder did not continue to bid.

“Yes, I think there is no bidder, I am selling, selling, selling for 12 gold. Yes, our land no. 38 goes to this gentleman.”

Arden took a deep breath when he saw that the sale had taken place.

“Congratulations, man,” Matt said, putting his hand on Arden's shoulder.

“Thanks, man,” Arden said.

Arden's mind was still on land sales. He had reserved about 25 gold coins to buy the land, and he was able to get the job done for 12 gold. After some thought, the sale of land no. 39, right next to his own land, was started. He wondered if the others would increase it if he offered this land.

When the sale of the land began, he raised his hand and spoke.

He said "11 gold"

If someone made an offer, he wasn't thinking of fighting to win, he just wanted to take his chances.

“Yes, for 11 gold the same gentleman is buying land 39,” said the host.

“What are you doing, man,” Matt said when it was all over.

“Think of it as an investment, my friend, if Mr. Kurt is right, I can sell it back for 10 times the price I bought it.” said Arden.

This got Matt thinking.

“What do you say, should I get it too?”

"I don't know man, Mr. Kurt might be wrong, it's a bit risky so you know"

After some more thought, Matt decided to bid on lot 40.

“11gold”

"12"

“14”

Because Matt wasn't as lucky as Arden, he was able to close the land next to the land that Arden bought for 14 gold.

Arden and matt stayed until the end of the auction. More than half of the land that was put up for sale was unsold. But the city council had clearly earned a large amount of gold. That's why the Dwarf on the stage was smiling.

He left the stage after saying "You can come and get the title deeds to the City Council building tomorrow".

Matt and arden happily made their way to their inn. They were planning to reward themselves at dinner tonight.
