Chapter 15: The Butcher - Overwhelming Presence

Chapter 15: The Butcher - Overwhelming Presence

Inside the guild master's room was Zyra, with a grim face looking at the old man who was standing with his back to her, looking out the window.

"Only I will go!" Zyra said determinedly.

The guild master smiled and sighed, "Zyra, it's better to take some others with you. We have very little information about this zombie, but we know he can order other zombies. It would be dangerous even for you if you were surrounded," the guild master said.

"Alright, I'll choose some reliable adventurers to accompany me. I need to prepare and leave as soon as possible," Zyra decided.

"We will do everything we can to assist you, Zyra," the guild master replied.

Zyra then left the room and began looking for adventurers who could accompany her on this mission. She knew she couldn't choose just anyone, as the situation was dangerous and required specific skills.

She finally found a group of three adventurers: a mage, a warrior, and a rogue. All of them were experienced and reliable, and Zyra knew she could count on them in a situation like this.

Zyra saw Lilian approaching, "No, no, and no, you're not going, don't even bother," Zyra said before Lilian could say anything.

Lilian looked annoyed at Zyra and puffed up her cheeks, as if a mother had just denied a toy to her child.

With pleading eyes, Lilian said, "Please, let me go, just this once, I promise to stay far away and just watch you guys."

Seeing Lilian's determined look, Zyra took a deep breath and said, "NO."

With a grim face, Lilian turned around while muttering, "I didn't even want to go!"

Zyra knew that Lilian was a competent adventurer, but she also knew that Lilian had an impulsive and reckless temperament. She couldn't risk the safety of her team and the mission itself because of Lilian's whims.

After carefully choosing the adventurers who would accompany her, Zyra went to the equipment store to ensure that everyone was properly equipped for the mission.

She bought healing potions, magic scrolls, and sharp weapons, everything that would be necessary to face the Butcher Zombie and any other danger that might arise.

When they were all ready, Zyra and her team left the city and headed towards the forest where the Butcher Zombie was last seen. The forest was silent and dark, with dense shadows that moved mysteriously along the path. Zyra led the team, with the warrior right behind her, followed by the wizard and the rogue.

Small insects and worms writhed amidst the animal remains scattered on the ground. The nauseating smell of decay and decomposition filled the air, causing Zyra's team to cover their noses and mouths to avoid vomiting.

With each step they took, they could hear the sound of insects chewing on rotten flesh and the squelching of worms moving through the bodies. A gentle breeze stirred the trees, causing dry bones hanging from branches to clatter like eerie bells.

Zyra had sensed the presence of something and quickly instructed the wizard to prepare a detection spell. The rogue approached stealthily from the front, trying to get a better view of what was there.

Suddenly, the rogue retreated quickly and whispered, "It's a girl, I think it's the one you were talking to, Zyra."

Zyra cautiously approached, ready to act in case of danger. She recognized the girl as Lilian, who had disobeyed her orders and followed them into the forest.

"What the hell are you doing here? I told you not to come," Zyra said sternly.

"I wanted to help, I can't just stay at home while you face a Butcher Zombie. I promise I won't get in the way," Lilian replied, determined.

Zyra sighed, knowing that Lilian wouldn't leave without a good reason. She looked at her team, who seemed to agree to let Lilian stay.

"Alright, but stay behind us and follow our orders. If something happens, you need to obey and get out of the way," said Zyra, looking at Lilian with a serious expression.

Lilian nodded with a smile on her face, clearly relieved to have been allowed to stay. The team then continued towards the area where the Butcher Zombie was last seen, with Lilian following closely behind.

Finally, after hours of walking through the forest, they found the Butcher Zombie. Its skin was completely rotten, revealing exposed muscles and bones. Its red eyes were empty and lifeless, and its mouth was full of rotten, sharp teeth. The smell of death and decay that it emanated was almost unbearable.

The zombie turned and looked at Zyra's team, and then let out a scream that made the ground shake. Suddenly, the bodies of the animals around them began to move, rising from the ground and joining the army of undead led by the Butcher Zombie.

In the presence of the Butcher Zombie, Lilian felt an indescribable fear. She couldn't move, and neither could the rest of the team, even if only for a moment. Even Zyra felt fear.

Zyra took a deep breath and focused, knowing that this was probably a skill of the Butcher Zombie. She shouted orders to her team, instructing them to stay away from the undead animals and focus on taking down the Butcher Zombie.

Ready to fight, Zyra yelled, "Lilian, stay back!"

At that exact moment, Lilian was focused on something else.

With widened eyes, Lilian shouted, "So... So strong."

Realizing that Lilian had noticed something, Zyra asked, "Lilian, can you use appraisal?"

With that said, the other three members of the team looked at Lilian surprised, appraisal was not a common skill.

"Do you have any information that can help us, Lilian?" asked Zyra.

Without wasting time, Lilian shouted, "He's weak against electricity, but be careful, he has a very powerful ability, it's what's making us hesitant, it's called Sinister Influence."

[Sinister Influence; Lvl 2

The Zombie Butcher's Sinister Influence is a dark aura that emanates from the monster's body and has the ability to instill fear and terror in anyone within range of the skill. Those who approach the zombie may feel a chill down their spine and begin to tremble, even if there is no visible threat present.

The stronger the fear and horror people feel, the more powerful the skill becomes, increasing the zombie's physical power and its ability to resist damage. This ability is particularly dangerous in combination with its physical strength, making it even more difficult to face in combat.

The dark aura can also affect other zombies nearby, increasing their aggressiveness and turning them into an even more powerful and lethal force. The effect of the skill diminishes as fear and horror emotions decrease, but the zombie can continue to emanate the aura for an extended period, keeping pressure on opponents even after combat begins. ]
