Walking down the streets of one of the empire’s regional capitals, you hear from taverns and shops that a Metang has been causing trouble. It sounds like it’s a minor sidequest, something to handle after your meeting with the governor about his rebel problem.
You’re about to retire for the evening when trouble comes crashing through the front door of the inn you’re staying at. You thought it was impossible for inorganic pokemon to get drunk, but the unsteady Metang in front of you is a living example of just that.
Whether peacefully or not, you manage to subdue them, and then have the option to ask them about their troubles.
Metang’s answer is a telepathic tirade: that they’re not content to sit in some bureaucrat’s office and act as a living computer, especially not when it’s to enrich some man’s coffers whilst so much suffering happens around him. They offer to join you, if only to get away from this place and do something that's actually helpful.
Your many travels and tribulations across the land only strengthen Metang’s convictions. They find meaning in fighting for what’s good and right in the world, regardless of where they are.
The campaign takes you to the furthest reaches of the continent. At one of these godsforsaken corners, news arrives speaking of open revolts in Metang’s homeland; the people have taken up arms against the empire’s rule. Metang is all too willing to fly to their aid.
However, the next stronghold you face on your campaign against the BBEG is exceptionally formidable; enough for the Empire to dispatch a sizable number of troops, commanded by a veteran Bisharp, to assist you. Metang’s prodigious psychic might would be greatly appreciated in the upcoming assault.
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
If you compel/convince them to stay, Metang will effortlessly batter down the outer defenses, allowing Bisharp’s troops to storm the fortress with ease, capturing a sizable treasure and a wealth of intelligence on the BBEG’s plans. However, Metang’s stats will slowly deteriorate, until they desert you, just before the final battle. The epilogue shows that Metang was never seen again, and the rebellion in their homeland was brutally crushed.
If you let them leave, a direct assault on the fortress becomes too costly for Bisharp to contemplate, so your side settles in for a drawn out siege. The fortress is eventually taken, but earns you only Bisharp’s lasting resentment. You don’t hear from them for the rest of the campaign, besides news that their homeland has overthrown their tyrannical governor.
When it comes time for the final showdown, Bisharp isn’t willing to throw his men into another meat grinder for your sake. Without one of the empire’s best commanders, the battle slows to a crawl with no end in sight. The fighting is grueling, the weather terrible, and attrition high.
Things appear to be turning for the worse before a ragtag, battered legion materializes out of the rolling fog. Despite the oppressive conditions, their heads are held high as they charge towards the BBEG’s camp, diagonal cross banners fluttering in the wind. You and the rest of the army sally forth along with them.
This catches the BBEG and their inner circle by surprise, and victory is swift.
Afterwards, the legion’s leader approaches you personally with a letter in hand: It invites you and your party to be present at the victory parade as the governor’s personal honor guard. It also invites you to celebrate afterwards at the same inn where you first met Metang (drinks on them, of course).
A very familiar signature graces the bottom of the letter, accompanied by the ink stamp of a Metagross’ foot.
