When a (hidden) formula based on her Character Level and Relationship is high enough, she will make a comment about needing just one more push to evolve. At your next non-story-travel Long Rest, in which case your Tav can choose to engage in a mock battle with her, at the end of which she will evolve. If you lose, she will accuse you of throwing the battle for her sake, and tell you that that was not necessary. If you win, she will tell you that she is beginning to respect your strength.
A similar sequence will play out after obtaining the third Netherstone.
Each of the evolutions will be accompanied by "resting in her coils" if you have courted her well enough.
Depending on what combination of those fights you win/lose, she will either see your Tav as needing her protection, a protégé, or an equal.
