"Hello, how can I be of assistance?" the young woman behind the counter asked the three, then, realising that the demon was none other than Fracius Berevan, she immediately changed her tone of voice "Oh, Mr Fracius, it's you, I didn't recognise you!" yes, she changed her tone of voice, but to a far more awkward one, rather than a more diligent one.
"Just Fracius." he sighed "How many more times do you think I have to tell you, Faffa?"
"I know, I know! Please forgive me, Mr Fracius!" in saying this, she held out both hands to him, into which the demon placed his pirate hat. Apparently, it was good manners to do so.
"There is nothing to forgive, and I repeat, no Mr, only Fracius. Rather, where is your father? I need to speak to him."
"My father? I don't know, he hasn't been home for two days."
"As usual, I take it." he sighed a second time "How many more times do I have to tell him not to leave you here alone to run the guild?" who knows why, to this family all he did was repeat the same things over and over again.
"Don't say that, Mr- Fracius, just Fracius. After all, when my father is away more or less all the guild members help me out."
"Tell him, Faffa!" exclaimed a big man sitting at one of the many tables there.
The young woman caught fire, in the truest sense of the word. A hot, candyfloss-like pink aura enveloped her arms. She was furious, to say the least "Shut up you, Urcro! Don't you dare disrespect Mr Fracius!"
Suddenly, no one dared to laugh at the joke made by the big man.
After she had stopped burning, the conversation could continue. Faffa informed Fracius that her father, the guildmaster, had told her he was going to the shrine of Zarcatin, to pray for his late wife; having done that, he was going to scour the surroundings of the town. Why this last thing? She doesn't know either.
"All clear, that means we're going to look for him. But not before we have you signed up, my dear Sat!"
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Dear? Since when had he become dear? Sat thought. In any case, better that way.
Hearing the demon call him my dear, the young woman finally turned her attention to the human in front of her.
She turned red with embarrassment; she had never seen anyone so beautiful. His straight dark brown hair, his charming grey eyes... Everything about him was beautiful, perfect. Not least, he seemed to enjoy the friendship of Mr Fracius.
Rather, how had she not realised it in the first place?! Of course, it wasn't like she could just stare at anyone who spoke to her, she had things to do, papers to sign, money to count... And it was embarrassing too. She realised herself that she was rather strange, indeed peculiar. Who knows, maybe he might have liked that.
Interrupting her thoughts was Fracius "By today, if possible."
"Yes, right away!" so she ran up the stairs to the first floor to fetch everything she needed. She returned within a few minutes, papers in hand "Sorry, but it took me a while to find them." at least, the short journey had allowed her to calm down.
"That's alright, there's no hurry." Sat replied to her, making her blush point blank.
"Oh, well... If you say so." the tips of her ears caught fire, again in the true sense of the word.
"Fuck she's weird." Sat thought. Finally, he signed where there was to be signed, getting in return a bracelet with a tag saying 'Adventurer's Guild: City of Scelevo'.
"Your name and surname will be added as soon as you have completed your first assignment."
"Alright." he put the bracelet on his right wrist, it was made of metal.
After that, Faffa explained to him in detail what he needed to know. Like the fact that there were no less than five levels, which from lowest to highest were: Fifth level, fourth level, third level, second level and, who knew, first level. They hadn't been very imaginative, but at least they hadn't used absurd names either, which was good, according to Sat.
He also learnt that one could not advance to the next level until one had completed a certain number of assignments of one's current level.
"If we're done here, I'd say first go have breakfast..." Fracius turned to Faffa "And then go find your father."
"What?! Me too?! But... I can't, I have to look after the guild... And also-" they were gone, apparently Mr Fracius didn't mean her as well. She sighed, hurt.
"Thank you again, Fracius, for all you have done and are doing for me."
"And that I will do, don't forget."
"If I may... How come you're so nice to me? I've done nothing to deserve it."
"What, you must be joking, I hope." he lowered his voice "You are the third hero of the Fraradar kingdom, that and more for you."
Yeah, he knew, he knew he was the third hero "Dricea?"
"Yes, my hero?"
"It was you who told him, wasn't it?"
"And who else?"
"Whatever, if it's all right with you, I don't object."
"Thanks for the vote of confidence, my hero."
"Just one thing, call me Sat, when we're not alone." he turned to Fracius, who was listening "My hero it's embarrassing."
