Prologue I - Reincarnation

The blazing sunlight was burning the sidewalk as I ran around the street without really any care in the world, while holding a precious light novel I just bought.

"It's finally here!" I couldn't help myself from smiling as I kept on running. I went on, ignoring annoyed stares from strangers on the sidewalk. I couldn't care less about public ethics.

The red traffic light stopped me in my tracks as I waited to pass the street. I looked over the cover of the light novel I was holding with a grin. It's a precious book that I've been waiting for two years already.

A little girl beside me looked curiously at my behavior as we waited for the traffic light to cross the street, however I paid her no mind as I waited patiently.

As soon as the light turned green I sprinted immediately to pass the street. The little girl gazed at me and followed suit. She walked slowly and tripped.

I've already crossed the street in a flash before I saw the little girl tripped in the middle of the zebra crossing. As the crosswalk was devoid of any people, she was standing out so I couldn't help but notice her.

I tried to slowly walk back and help her until I saw a truck blazing toward the empty street recklessly, even though the traffic street clearly was red.

I glanced at the truck driver seat and saw a sleeping driver that couldn't even hold the steering wheel.

"That idiot driver!" I dashed toward the little girl as she stared blankly at the incoming truck headed toward her. I could briefly see a silent tear falling out from the little girl's terrified expression.

I immediately pushed the little girl away from the truck's path before falling down toward the ground as I dropped the light novel I was holding.

It all happened too quickly that I didn't even process what had just transpired. A great thud was heard before I fell down as the truck knocked my body out.

I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open as I saw the little girl's shocked expression before falling down unconscious. The grotesque incident was probably too much for an elementary student.

"At least you're safe.." I muttered with all of my strength. The pain was delayed, but it finally kicked in as I processed the blood all around me. The burning sensation was something I never experienced before.

I could only lie helplessly, without any strength to do anything. Before my eyes gave up to open any longer, I could see the cover of the light novel I was carrying before stained as its pristine color was tainted with blood.

The thought of dying felt so surreal that my brain couldn't keep up with anything as its only focus was the last thing I saw, a cute blue haired anime girl with adorable cat ears at the cover of the bloody light novel sitting beside me.

I don't want to die.

Save me, Sekai-chan.

"Welcome to my room!" A warm smile greeted me with the presence of a petite yet beautiful girl as she waved her hand swiftly toward me.

My head was in great turmoil as I looked toward the girl in front of me, a cute 152 cm height girl with blueberry cake as her favorite meal and blue as her favorite lucky color charm as she wore it into her personality everywhere, including her panties.

I looked around at the surroundings beside me. It was a comfy little bedroom in a house that could be found anywhere in the modern world of Japan. There was particularly nothing that stood out except for the fact that every furniture and the bed were all colored with a hint of blue in it.

The window was closed with a light blue curtain, while the girl standing in front of me flicked her adorable cat ears as it matched her movement cutely.

I sighed in surprise and relief. I glanced at a mirror to my right. My expression is completely pale. I slowly but surely regained my composure. I viewed the situation before me and made a simple conclusion, this is all just a dream.

"Well then, good night!" I jumped at the bed beside the girl as she stood there shocked.

"Don't just escape reality like that, you cabbage!" Screamed the girl in a crude manner as she grabbed me from the bed.

Ah, being scolded by a cute cat girl as she tried to wake me up, truly a bliss.

"Do you want to perish, you lowly cabbage?!" The girl yelled as she took her hand out to reveal a knife in her hand as she took an intimidating pose.

Aah! She said the thing! My heart cried out as I stared at her eyes excitedly, maybe a little too close.

"Sekai-chan! I love you! Please marry me!" I said without hesitation in my words at all. This is the greatest gift ever.

She sighed at my behavior. I could pick up some hint in her eyes that she might be a little bit upset.

"Will you just calm down for a sec?!" Her eyes stared at me down like how a parent discipline their children.

Although she said that, I couldn't really see the point in it, as I am perfectly calm in every aspect in my life. I am the calmest person I know in my life.

I took a deep breath once more as I looked around the room again. The layout of the bedroom is something I recognized from a series of light novels that I followed. The main character inside it, Sekai-chan, was dressed exactly as the girl in front of me.

The only not-so-logical explanation would be that I was transported somehow after I died getting hit by a truck.

"Well, you're right! Here's a pat for your hard work at figuring that out!" Sekai-chan patted me with a caring expression.

That adorable pat was a signature move from Sekai-chan whenever someone in her group is feeling down. I felt happy to receive it, but I wished she could bite my ear instead though.

"Don't just casually classify me as a lewd girl in your mind!" She threw a light punch at me. It tickled a little but her expression was so cute that I could only feel the sweetness from her punch.

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

Being transported to my favorite light novel universe is amazing!

She sighed, "You're still in this universe, you know?" The girl reached out and opened the curtain window as it revealed a beautiful scene of outer space.

It was beautiful, everything about it, yet at the same time it felt lonely, as there was practically nothing that could be reached by hand as everything was so far away.

"We're on the edge of the universe." The girl calmly said without particularly any emotion.

I could only wonder the reason why I'm here, or what's the point of this at all. She seemed to be able to read my mind, but the character Sekai-chan shouldn't have that ability. However, the body language and word choice of both of them were similar.

"To put it simply, I'm going to reincarnate you to another world! A fantasy world, be thankful! As you are one lucky human being, you're special, you can live again to find the perfect happiness for you," She laughed as to how Sekai-chan laughed in the light novel. Hearing that, a part of me somehow felt hurt.

"Do you just say that to every girl? you playgirl! I didn't know Sekai-chan is like this…" I pretended to weep my non-existent tears as I teased Sekai-chan.

Although I was happy at the idea of being able to live again, at the same time I didn’t know whether I would be happy. As with a lot of people, I was enslaved with the modern industry of anime entertainment, with no need of outside interaction.

All my life, I wasn't completely unhappy. That being said, it wasn’t like I found perfect happiness on earth, and there were countless other people like that. I wasn't the main character, therefore there must be countless others that were also reincarnated too. It felt hurt to hear someone say I was special for something I was not.

"You're wrong!" The girl said with a smile.

No, I'm just a person, a human being, a completely useless one at that. I'm so insignificant on this place called earth.

"You're the only human being who has the chance to reincarnate into another world," Sekai-chan explained.

Eh?

"Not just that, you're the only creature in this universe that can visit another world," Sekai-chan further explained.

Eh?!?!

"Hold on, what?!" I exclaimed in surprise.

No, this must be a mistake. There was no way someone like me deserved something like that. In the first place, who is this girl? Although she looked like Sekai-chan, she was clearly a different entity from the Sekai-chan I was reading.

"Who are you?" I asked, followed by an immediate sigh from the girl.

"Took you long enough to ask that!" The girl shouted, her manner is still similar to the Sekai-chan I know.

Suddenly, the atmosphere around her changed. Her body language was still the same, but there was something about it that felt scary, sinister almost.

"I am the universe. I'm here to send you to a different universe from here," said the girl, still with Sekai-chan tone. However, it no longer felt as playful as before.

"But why? I'm just a normal college student!" I shouted in denial. I've never done anything significant with my life, no job, no boyfriend, just someone living her life peacefully. The only heroic thing I did that I could remember was saving the elementary student just now, but that was it. My life was sincerely a pebble compared to others.

The girl chuckled with a smug expression on her face, "You see, that little girl you saved will later invent a way for humankind to travel into the realm of space and galaxies!"

"I see..." I could only sigh weakly.

Does that mean I got to be able to reincarnate because I saved her in which she would let humanity travel into space? But what about other lifeforms? The girl said that I was not just the only human who can reincarnate, but the only creature. Surely in this gigantic universe, humans aren't the only ones who can travel between galaxies.

"You're correct, humans aren't the smartest creatures in this universe, other lifeforms had intergalactic travel for millions of years," The girl replied.

Then why? Why did you choose to reincarnate me?

"It's the method that matters, the little girl you saved, would discover teleportation! Something that has never been done before in this universe! The most intergalactic travel could do for now is moving faster at the speed of light, however fifteen years from now, that little girl would discover teleportation which would evolve the universe!" The girl explained excitedly.

"Huh..." I could only listen in amazement. Nevertheless, the one who did all the work was the little girl, not me. I still don't deserve to be reincarnated just because of that. I don't even know why I was still here, shouldn't I move on from life, or sleep forever?

"You're the one who saved yourself, Yuzu." Sekai-chan said softly.

I couldn't have done that, I was just a human.

"You said it yourself, didn't you? After being hit by a truck, 'I don't want to die', and 'save me, Sekai-chan', because of how precious the little girl you saved is, the universe answered your call." The girl smiled sweetly. She gently caressed her beautiful blue hair as she continued.

"I'm the result of your determination to live, normally the universe is just a single entity from everything that's inside it, it doesn't have consciousness, however now I can talk to you via the character you really liked to read a lot when you were still living," Sekai-chan gently explained as she licked her finger, mimicking the gesture of Sekai-chan from the light novel.

"Do I get something like a power or ability? since you mentioned it's a fantasy world." I asked curiously.

"Of course, you would have half of me, which means you'll be immortal! Just like me" The girl nonchalantly replied.

Huh?

Huuuh?!?!

"Hold on, Isn't that too much?!" I protested.

"I mean it sounds like a fair compromise isn't it? Don't worry, no lifeforms would be lost," She answered while giving a thumbs up. She stared at me for a moment before continuing.

"Do you know how big the universe is?" The girl asked. I could only shake my head.

"It's infinity minus one, that's how big it is," She answered with pride.

"That doesn't make any sense though," I muttered while sighing.

"That's just how big the universe is. It's beyond what humans could even think at the moment, which resulted in many parts of the universe unexplored, and unused, which is why the discovery of teleportation would really help the universe to develop even further," The girl said with a lot of confidence.

Half a universe, huh. At the end of the day, what do I really want? I just wanted to have a peaceful life watching anime and light novels. I could live again, but what's the point of that? What's the point of anything?

"Didn't I just mention, you could find your happiness with that!" The girl said cheerfully, however there was a hint of loneliness behind her voice.

Afterall, what comes after that? In the first place, what was I supposed to do anyway? Saving the world like some sort of an isekai light novel protagonist? Or help the residents of the world to have a better life? And then what? Living forever seemed too much for what it's worth.

"You don't want to live forever?" The girl smiled brightly, however there was something hidden with her smile, it was as if she knew the answer already.

"No, I do want to live, but-" All of the sudden, she held my hands with sincerity.

"Then that's enough, isn't it? If you're tired of it, when that time comes, then you can just sleep eternally," Sekai-chan's ear twitched adorably as she talked.

Her hands felt warm as her expression was sweet. Looking at her, I couldn't have possibly refused anything, she was just too cute to say 'no' to.

"You don't have to do anything special, you can just live inside that world peacefully, as how Sekai-chan would live in that novel," The girl stared at me as she awaited my response.

Sekai-chan was a character in a slice-of-life light novel titled 'Moonlight Cat'. The novel was filled with a heartfelt relationship between Sekai-chan and her friends as they lived their middle school life. There was no particular important plot to it. However, the interaction between them sold me into reading and following all the volume of the novel.

"Because that's what you wanted, right?" Sekai-chan asked.

It's something that I haven't thought much about. Perhaps, the reason why I read so much of that novel and other similar slice-of-life novels was because It was something I desired. Sekai-chan smiled playfully. It seemed that she knows just about anything about me as a whole.

"Of course, silly! You were once a part of me, so I know everything about you already, and now half of me would be inside you, are you ready?" The girl urged me to continue.

"Yes, I do." I replied.

"Do you want me to do Sekai-chan goodbye special as a farewell gift?" She asked, her cheek is visibly red.

"I… don't know what that is." I answered in embarrassment, even though I was a massive fan of the light novel, I had no idea what she was referring to. Although it could be something from the latest volume of the novel, which I haven't read yet considering I just got hit by a truck after buying it. The girl nodded as if affirming my thoughts.

"Well, here it goes." The girl closed our distance quickly before I could even react.

Her lips felt soft as it touched mine. It tasted like blueberry, and her scent was sweet like cotton candy.

"Farewell." The girl said, with tears leaking out of her eyes, until everything went blank.
