Chapter six

“ I don’t mean to be rude but you seemed to get a little angry after that person ran off, is there a reason why?” Jekyll then responded “I don’t want to get into that..” I didn’t ask him again, I just sat there thinking about what made him so upset

“Sorry I yelled at you earlier” Jekyll said “It's alright” I responded “It’s just… I’ve never been overly fond of humans ever since… It's not a good memory.” Jekyll said pausing for a second “You don’t have to tell me.”

“I should though, it’s not easy keeping something like that built up inside.”, It all happened so fast the pack had no time to defend itself from them…”Jekyl began tearing up slightly” It was night time, everyone was asleep, a group of probably twenty hunters had snuck up on our pack. Our pack did not practice the ways of magic, this left our pack defenseless against the massacre that was brought down upon us.”

“How did you survive?” I asked.”I was just a pup when it happened, my mom ran away and hid me in a fallen tree trunk, that was the last time I saw her, ever since that happened I trained to get stronger so that if I ever saw those vile people again I can slaughter every last one of them.”

After Jekyll had told me this I stayed silent for the remainder of the evening as did he. As night began to draw on the cave I laid my head down against the cold cave floor and went to sleep. “Finally” I said as I stretched my legs from the long drive to the lake, “You ready to get this baby launched out on the lake.” I asked Cal,”Dude, I've been waiting all week for this.” he said as we began to prepare the boat.”

I rolled over and let out a big sigh, my breath turned into a cold frost as it left my body. I sat up and began to warm up the cave with my fire. Jekyll sat up slowly and looked over at me “I've got to get some warmer clothes if I'm going to last very long on this mountain. If you could catch me two deer I could make me a set of clothing.” Jekyll then said,”Alright you just stay here and practice your mana defense, we need food anyway.”

I crossed my legs and began to focus- after three hours of waiting Jekyll returned carrying one big elk,” Damn, I only asked for two deer.” “I figured this would be better, It's three times the size of a fully grown deer and it's got thicker fur.” I stood up and walked over to the elk “Hey Jekyll do you think you could skin this elk for me?”

Jekyll then said,”I'm not making any promises about it being great but I'll give it a go.”Jekyll went to work using his claws like a knife he slowly cut away the hide from the elk. As Jekyll finished I lifted up the hide. It wasn't exactly a great job but I'm not going to be in any fashion show. I grabbed a rock off the cave floor and began to scrape away the fat from the elk hide. After I had done that I laid it upside down with the bare side up, I made a small flame in my hand and began to dry it so it wouldn't rot.

I flipped it back over and sat it on my knee using a rock to punch a hole in it, after the hole had been made I began to rip at the hide making a flap I could stick my head through, and use the flap as a hood. Once finished I stood up and tried it on,” Not too shabby” I said to myself “You'll stay warm, that's what’s important.” Jekyll said

“You need to train more, up on the mountain it will be harder but that will help you.” Jekyll said “What should I train?” I asked “I've wanted to try something, I don't know if it's even possible but I’ve heard stories of humans who were in touch with nature having the ability to join their mana with animals, I had the hunch that you could probably do that but I wasn't sure.”

“How would I even do that?” Jekyll then responded “I'm not exactly sure, but I've had a couple of ideas, well go ahead and start, Cross your legs and sit like you do when you practice your mana defense.” I did as he said then he stuck out his paw and said.”The only thing I know for sure is that we have to be touching each other for it to work, my best idea is that I have to try and use my mana to flow it into your body, it may sound easy but I can't try and force it into you, you will also have to let the mana mix in with yours, it will probably be uncomfortable but I have no idea, let's start if it starts to hurt, stop.” I closed my eyes and began to relax

I could tell the second he started to flow the mana into my body, as the mana worked its way down to my elbow it seemed to be working but then out of nowhere I felt a sharp pain in my arm and yelled jerking my arm away.” Ahh!” Jekyll responded quickly “ What happened?”

“It seemed like it was working but right as your mana built up to my shoulder it hurt bad.” “Well it seems like you can take in my mana, but your body rejected it, most likely because you lost concentration, it will come with time you'll need to get better at mana control before we try this again, also if you do this remember, your using my mana so I will be weaker until I can rest so you need to avoid using it.”

“Ok” I said in response “I'm going to go outside and try and practice my electricity.”
