Chapter Four

After we hand finished our food, Jekyll said “The next step for you in the use of the elements is going to be electricity, it’s a lot like fire in the way that you cast it but instead of making it a steady flow you let your mana become unstable then you shoot it out at your target. Instead of trying to make a stream of electricity we will be focusing on just casting an explosive ball instead, as the stream of electricity is a harder thing to do.”

After Jekyll had finished his explanation I closed my eyes and did as he said I directed my mana to my hands, trying to force it to become unstable, the mana in my hands began to become unstable but it wasn't enough yet, so I forced more into my hands.” AHH!” I yelled,”What happened Gust?” Jekyll said with a concerned look on his face, I stood there holding my hand in pain and said,”I was doing what you said then my hand began to hurt, almost like it was cramping up.”Jekyll then responded “ Ah yes, once again I have seemed to missed an important detail, you don't want to try and over do anything, especially right now as you aren't skilled enough and you can hurt yourself trying to over do anything.”

I stood there for a second then said “Have you forgotten anything else I should know?”Jekyll then responded, “Ok so I've missed a couple important parts, but the best way to learn is by making mistakes, now go again and dont over do it this time.”

I closed my eyes once more and began to make my mana move to my hands, I could feel the mana become unstable, I forced it out and a barrel noticeable sizzle came out. Jekyll looked at me and said “Don’t be afraid of it, you have to find the perfect median between it being almost too much and enough to where it actually can do something without you hurting yourself.”

Standing there again I tried to build it up longer, it was better than before but I knew it still wasn’t enough. “Go again.” Jekyll said. I kept this up for probably six hours, it had gotten better but it still was not good enough.

“Alright Gust, clearly you're not going to get this right now, that's fine, but you do need to practice your fire element as you seem to be more naturally gifted in that aspect, it will be your best offense.”...I stood their, sweating profusely already tired from trying to learn how to use the electricity element.”Can we take break for a second, I'm exhausted from training?” Jekyll responded “No, this is the best way to build up your mana levels.”...”Ugh, Alright but don’t expect anything amazing out of me.” I said, Jekyll then spoke in an annoyed tone ”There is NO halfling any training sessions, if you ever expect to get stronger you must go all out every time.”

I stood their and started to concentrate then Jekyll spoke again,”What do you think your doing?”,”Im concentrating?” I responded a little confused,”You won't just be throwing fire balls into the air, this time you will have to try and hit me.” I responded,”Are you serious, what if I hit you?”.”I highly doubt you could actually hit me, let alone hurt me.”Jekyll said,”Alright but don’t get mad at me if I do.” I stood there and began to prepare my attack. I threw my hand to my side then pushed it out launching a stream of fire at Jekyll.

Before my fire had even got half way to his location Jekyll had disappeared with a flash.

I stopped my fire stream and began to look for Jekyll, I couldn't spot him then I heard a whistle above me. I looked up and spotted him staring down at me, “ You're gonna have to be faster than that if you want to even get close.” I stood there wondering how he had gotten up there, I didn’t even see him move. Then it hit me, he must have used his mana to make himself faster. “How do you expect me to hit you?” I said, “I'm going to let you figure that out on your own.” He said, In anger I launched a fireball at him. He opened his mouth and launched one at mine. They collided in the air making a small Burst of fire. I stood there trying to think of a way I could follow his movements. I stood there thinking for a few minutes then I had an idea.

I know he's using mana to make himself faster, even if I could be as fast as him I still couldn't see him, so I wonder if I can use mana to make my eyesight better, I began to shift some of my mana to my eyes, It began to work, I looked around and could see the leaves falling in slow motion and the grass moving slowly, I began to power up a fireball in my left hand while in the other I began working on one, I threw one of the fireballs at him. Just like I hoped when Jekyll went to dodge I could see him, I reached back my right arm and threw a fire ball where he was planning to land. Jekyll then cast a fireball at mine destroying it, as soon as he had landed I began another assault, this time I led with a stream of fire using it like a machine gun but I still wasn't fast enough.

Jekyll then did something I didn't expect, he launched a fireball at me, I lifted up my arm and tried to shoot one at his. I barely got it off in time but the explosion launched me on my butt.

Jekyll then stopped and said “Good job Gust I, I'm surprised you figured that out that fast, let alone actually doing it to the success you had with it.” “I had no idea you were going to attack me!” I said “You never know when you could be attacked you must always be prepared to defend yourself” he said, I began to speak but was interrupted by Jekyll “ You need to get some rest I’ve got some big plans for tomorrow” I did what he said and followed him back to the den.
