Chapter eight

“I got one on the line Cal, grab the net.” I said as I was fighting the musky “I’ve got the net take her in slow gust.” I began moving the pole to the side, holding it close to the water so it wouldn’t jump out and throw the hook off. “ GET IT!” I yelled in excitement as Cal dipped the net catching the musky.

“Ughhh” I moaned as I rubbed my eyes, I looked over at Jekyll and tapped his shoulder and asked him to wake up.”Get up Jekyll..” Jekyll groaned and said “I don’t want to get up.” I stood there for a second then had an idea. I stood back and began to power my mana up. Jekyll jumped up and said “Who’s there!” “Haha.”

“That wasn’t very nice, you scared the shit out of me.” ,” You should have seen the look on your face.” I said laughing,” yeah, yeah, let’s get going, we need to find those dogs, where should we start?”, “I figured the best place to start would be behind his house.”

I began walking back to the Village and stayed on the outskirts of town until I got behind the old man’s house and saw a dog's chain about fifty feet behind the house right on the edge of the woods. I picked it up and showed Jekyll

“It looks like the dog's collar was ripped by something.” I said, Jekyll stuck his nose down and sniffed the collar, “ Follow me I’ve got a trail.” Jekyll then stuck his nose down and began to follow the trail. We probably walked for a mile, Jekyll slowed down and I looked up and saw a small smoke stack, I whispered “ Jekyll look, I think there is someone up ahead.”, “let’s get closer, follow me, stay quiet and walk slowly.” I crouched down and followed closely behind Jekyll making sure to avoid anything that would give away my presence.

We got to the edge of a small circle of trees and there was a tent set up with a small fire beside it. We stayed low sitting there for a second then I spotted two dogs chained down beside the tent.”Look Jekyll, theirs the dogs.” I whispered pointing at them, “We need to wait until we see what kind of person we’re dealing with.”

After a few minutes of waiting a tall man walked out and sat beside the fire and began to cook.”Hey Jekyll do you think we should go in fighting?”Jekyll then responded “I’ve got an idea, you walk up and ask him where he got the dogs. If things get bad, then I’ll jump in.”

I stood up and walked out “Hello sir” the man jumped up quickly startled by my sudden presence,”Where'd you come from!?”,"" I was just out hunting and saw a fire, figured I’d come by and say high.” Then the man responded, “You need to watch sneaking up on people like that, it’s a good way to get yourself killed.”,” Sorry sir, hey I was wondering where you got those dogs from?”

“These dogs, I bought these dogs for hunting.” The man responded, sounding mad at the question,” I was back in town and I heard a man saying his dogs had been stolen, heard he was paying a good price for them to be brought back.”,” Are you accusing me of stealing these dogs!”l he said standing up “I was just saying, but you getting so mad about me just saying that doesn’t make you seem innocent.”

“You better clear out or else.” He said “clear out or else what?” ,”Or else I’ll cook you alive where you stand!”,” I quickly jumped back and said “ Go ahead, do your worst!”

Right as I said that I began to flow mana into my eyes. He quickly shot a fire ball at me, using my own fire I blocked his attack and shot a stream of fire. Seconds before it hit him he blocked my attack. I began to power up a lightning bolt, right before I could shoot he stuck his hand out at the dogs and said.” You best not do that or I’ll kill these dogs!”,” Ok, ok, you win I said backing up slightly”

Right as I backed up I heard a crackling noise to my left and saw a flash from where Jekyll had been hiding, he jumped out with a crazy speed grabbing the guy by the neck and broke it with barely any effort.

“Damit Jekyll what was that!” I said with anger “He was going to kill those dogs.”, “ So you KILLED him!” I yelled with anger,”He deserved it, he was a petty thief.”, I walked over to the dogs and unhooked their chains from the tent and began to walk back to the village, “I’ll meet you back where we stayed last night” I said to Jekyll

Jekyll didn’t say anything as I walked away. I was still shocked at the fact he would just kill someone like that with no remorse or second thought. “ I knew he was bad but man.” I said to myself

As I returned to the village I went to the old man’s house and knocked on the door.”Hello sir I’ve found your dogs.”,” Oh my, thank you young man, give me one second and I’ll go get you the coins I owe you… Here you go.” he said handing me a sack of coins

“Thank you sir, would you happen to know where I could find a place that sells weapons?”, “There's a store down from here, they have about anything you would need.” “Thanks again.” I said and began to head down to the store.

As I was walking I spotted the store, it had a sign outside that said “Weapons and more”

“That's a real creative name” I thought to myself as I stepped inside. Looking around I began to browse the sword. There were Greatswords, Katanas, Rapiers, Broadswords, and one Cutlass. I looked over the Broadswords and saw one that was about waist high when the bottom was on the ground, I pulled it out of the sheath. The blade had some weird looking writing on it, “This looks interesting I thought to myself.”

I walked up to the store owner and asked “How much does this cost?”,”Oh that old thing, I'll sell it to you for sixty coins, I've had it for a while.”,”Do you have any armor I could buy for forty coins?” ,”Armour is a little pricey but I could sell you a set of arm guards for that price.”,”Ok.” I said in response.”, He walked into the back and brought out a pair of them, they didn't look fancy but they would get the job done. I handed the man the coin and went on my way making my way back to camp.

I got back to camp and walked into the old house, Jekyll looked at me and saw me with the sword at my side and my arm braces already on.”What do you think I said.” I pulled out my sword and set it on the ground in front of Jekyll. “Looks like a nice sword you got yourself there, how much did she cost you?”,”With the armor and the sword together it was one hundred.”

“Tomorrow you need to start practicing with it, I won't be able to help you to much but it's a good thing to have, also something else, you can flow your mana through it making it stronger but I don't know how to do that, you'll have to learn how to do that on your own.”,”Ok, I think I'm going to go to sleep, it's been a long day.”

I took off my armor and sat my sword down on the ground, I layed down in the same spot as before and went to sleep.
