* Chapter 26 – The Decision

The weeks rapidly went by until Reyn became used to having the kid around. It was a Friday evening and Ye Ming bites his lips in frustration at failing to beat his last game score. Finally, after a while, Ye Ming closes his laptop and says, “Master, I mean, Aunt Reyn, I know what I need to do.”

Reyn glances up from what she was doing on her own laptop and says, “Oh, and what is that?”

“I want to grow stronger in order to get my revenge,” Ye Ming boldly declared.

Reyn narrows her eyes and coldly says, “Oh and you think you’re ready? Your World Tree hasn’t even grown enough to even begin to absorb mana. What can you possibly do to win against so much stronger and better-prepared opponents that won’t allow you to be killed and waste all my invested effort in you? Besides you will have your revenge, you just need to be more patient or is my word not good enough for you?”

Ye Ming hastily replies, “I know that you are good for you word master! But I just hate standing still, I feel that I’m not the least bit useful to you master as I am. Please, Master, I am begging you, there must be a way for me to grow stronger that much faster?!”

Reyn sighs in exasperation and takes off her glasses to take a closer look at Ye Ming’s World Tree. The kid’s World Tree was almost big enough to begin to absorb mana, but it would be several weeks at least before he could. Not to mention the amount of work needed to retrain the kid from scratch and establish a proper foundation excluding teaching the kid proper fighting technique. Bluntly speaking, what a pain in the a*s!

Reyn is quiet in thought as she remembers a memory from another life. A little demon girl glances up at a much older demon in frustration. “Let me go out, Walter! My people need me!” Reyn roared indignation.

“I would to your majesty, but you are far too young and weak. You are only a weak child,” Walter chided the Demon King.

Reyn puffs out her chest and says, “The people need to see that their Demon King is with them, Walter. Please, Walter, at least let me oversee the battle from the back of the troop lines, far away from the battlefield.”

Walter smiles tiredly and warily replies, “How I wish you would never have to grow up, your majesty, but some things sadly can never be granted.” And so, hand in hand, the two walked away from the sparring grounds towards the battlefronts. Reyn faint smile disappears as she recalls, how Walter would die only a month later protecting her from a human assassination attempt. The assassination attempt would fail thanks to Walter’s sacrifice, but Reyn would be left without her most loyal friend and trusted advisor.

Sighing to herself, Reyn glances up at Ye Ming and knows that she must do. “Alright, but once we start, there is no quitting is that understood?” Reyn flatly declared.

“Of course,” Ye Ming steadfastly replied.

Reyn sighs as she narrows her eyes and coolly says, “Fine, go and pack, we’ll leave tomorrow. But I hope for your own sake, that you won’t come to regret your decision.” Ye Ming flinches at the last statement, but excitedly climbs to his feet and rushes away to pack.

Reyn cracks her neck somewhat eagerly as she glances at her laptop and pulls up camping destinations. After a while, Reyn finally finds a place that seems suitable and makes the payment with her card. Having reserved a log cabin, Reyn sighs as she goes out in middle of the night to go shopping for food, sleeping bags, and the likes. It was going to be a long night.
