“So Feffy what now?”
Seph yelled over to Fefnir as the wall of wyverns grew larger.
“There’s not a way past that now is there…”
At this point the wyverns filled up almost the entire mouth of the cave, screeching and clawing at the ground before them. They weren’t stupid creatures, and had sadly learned quite fast just how dangerous Seph and Fefnir were. At this point the boys were going to have to be the first ones to attack for the wyverns to even retaliate. As Seph was still thinking he heard a noise from the sack.
“Gah!”
“Huh? You awake?”
“You threw me in a sack and knocked me out!”
Fefnir quickly sliced the sack open and tore it off the girl.
That’s all well and good, but we have a bigger problem. How do we deal with this exactly.
“Wyverns…”
“Yeah! Wyverns! Now whaddo we do?”
“Well… we could go out the back door…”
The swordsmen blinked. This was the first time either of them had heard of a cave having a back door after all. Fefnir was the first to recover from his stupor.
“Wait.. you’re saying that a cave has a backdoor.”
“Cave?! This is my house you rude brute!”
Shaking his head, he heard the wyverns starting to close in.
“Just take us there!”
“Fine let’s go!”
The wyverns had realized that they could simply close in on the group without breaking their wall, then kill them as they got closer. Luckily Letta opened the back door quickly, and they were able to escape quickly. Locking it, they ran back towards the town, screeches being heard from the cave. Suddenly Seph had an idea. Running back to the front of the cave he took out the ice cube from his pocket. Throwing it at the ground a wall was made in front of the opening, trapping the wyverns inside.
“Hell yeah! Haaha!”
“Not bad at all, but let’s get out of here before they break through!”
Seph quickly knocked a piece off the wall, giving him access to another wall should they need it, and soon they arrived back in town. People still didn’t seem to be all that scared, not even by the wyvern attack. It was one thing to not really care about Letta being a dragon, but wyverns could rip apart a town like this in minutes, especially a group of them like that. Fefnir decided to ask the question.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
“Letta, why aren’t the people here afraid of you?”
A few of the passerby’s even waved at her as they walked near.
“Hmm? These are the people of my town. I’ve known them for a long time!”
“So… you aren’t a dragon?”
“I’m a dragon! Dragons aren’t all just beings of evil you know!”
“Oi, that still don’t fix the wyvern problem though.”
“Seph has a point. Letta, is there any way we can get rid of them? If they escape the cave they’ll likely follow our scent straight here and rip the villagers apart.”
“If only I could change back into a dragon…”
“Why can’t you exactly?”
“Some stupid Youkai put a curse on me! It trapped me in this form, unable to change… I haven’t been able to find it in ages.”
Seph wiped his hand across his face. He’d had quite enough of Youkai, hoping that this trip would be more beast oriented. He’d almost gotten his wish at least.
“Guess that leaves us with no choice huh. We just gotta fight em head on.”
“Seph are you kidding me… did you even see how many of them there are?”
“Nope! Neither did you!”
“That doesn’t give me any more confidence you know.”
“Wait, you two can’t be serious, right? You’ll get ripped to shreds!”
“I’m afraid we took an oath as exorcists of the LeVay family my dear. No harm should befall the weak anyways.”
“I just wanna fight!”
“And Seph enjoys fighting, yeah. If I remember correctly though, you aren’t that great at it though. Something about a man hiring you to take credit for his exorcisms?”
“Shut it! That’s a lie. I took down Hachiman dammit!”
Fefnir just laughed and shook his head, looking back towards the hill. Seph’s gaze drifted there as well and they waited. It was going to be rough with Joyeuse. Fefnir was probably hoping for Excalibur to come in handy but… Seph was going to have to disappoint him. There wasn’t going to be some stupid overpowered sword coming out of slumber. Well, not today at least.
Watching in disbelief, Letta decided to give up. It was die here or lose her honor. Honestly she valued her life above honor, strangely for a dragon.
“Fine. You can have it. Just… promise to save them.”
Seph looked back at her, suddenly surprised.
“W-what? You’re…”
Before he could even respond Letta had taken Gram out of her personal space. It gleamed in the sunlight, crisp clean blade sharp against the table she laid it on. Fefnir was first to respond.
“It’s a bit more normal than I expected.”
The blade gleamed, well taken care of, but the handle was some sort of brown dull metal, scuffed, with a few chips out of it.
“Yes, well the blade is what matters. The hilt has just been scuffed around a bit.”
“Looks powerful enough to be! How’s this work now…”
“How does what-”
Before Fefnir could retort, Seph had put the blades of the swords together and Gram disappeared in an instant. Seph smiled. Joyeuse had also changed, becoming a double handed sword with a chipped brown hilt and beautiful blade.
“They fused?!”
“I’ve never heard of Excalibur having that-”
Luckily for Seph Fefnir had been cut off again, but this time not by himself. A screech was heard from the hill, meaning that the wyverns had probably chipped their way through the large ice wall. It wouldn’t have held them forever anyways, as only the ice cube in Seph’s pocket didn’t melt. Otherwise they may have just been able to leave the wyverns in the cave until they died. Sadly, however, they had to fight. Seph held the sword up.
“Sadly it looks like we’re gonna have to fight Feffy.”
“You don’t think this is sad at all…”
He smiled back at his friend.
“It’s all I coulda asked for!”
