Oku bounded at the waterfall, and suddenly heard a deep noise. That must be Grogs. So he was real?
There, she saw some sort of hole in the ground. That had to be his hideout. It was right behind the waterfall, not quite inside it like the story of Grogs told. She looked down into the hole and saw Lawrence, he was about to escape with some sort of dove. Just then, the spider turned around, and shot a leg out towards them. She was horrified. Lawrence saved that dove, and she saw his lifeless body get thrown against the wall. Just as she was about to jump down into the cave a sharp pain rocketed through her chest. She was linked to him!
She couldn’t save him…
She could never never save them…
As she fell into unconsciousness, the furry Youkai caught up and picked Oku up, looking down into the hole. He saw the dove, and the spider lose it’s spiritual power.
“Bright lights.”
He softly laid Oku down and jumped into the hole. At the bottom he found the boy, Doro, and a bird. The boy was covered with sticky warm stuff, but they were all sleeping. He picked them up and jumped back out in one swift motion. He was strong if he was anything. The bird was still awake though, and was desperately trying to stop the sticky stuff that was coming out of the boy. Just then, Doro came out of the almost trance like state he had been in after getting injected with the spider’s poison. It didn’t effect the boy and the bird as long, since they were larger, but Doro was basically just waking up. There he saw Gorgo, and some bird. Along with a boy. Holy shit there was a hole in him!
“What the hell!”
Doro slithered out of Gorgo’s arms, and down to the boy.
“Gorgo what did you do to him you idiot!”
“Found him like that Doro…”
“Ugh…”
Doro crawled onto Lawrence’s body and curled around the hole with a huff. With that, the skin started to move, and the blood re-entered his body. He couldn’t bring back everything, but he could repair the flesh and at least get rid of the wound. He’d have to recover the blood on his own.
“If he didn’t save me I wouldn’t waste the energy on him… There. Looks good to me.”
Nobody else was hurt, so he told Gorgo to bring them back to their homes.
“I dunno where they live though.”
“What?”
“Met at the place with big buildings.”
“In town? So the boy is a human… thought he smelled like one. Just bring ‘em to the edge of the woods near town and make sure they wake up safe. That’ll be enough. Oh, right.”
Doro touched Lawrence’s forehead and he shuddered in his sleep.
“Be a good dream at least. C’mon Gorgo we ain’t got all night.”
Lawrence woke up lying next to Oku and the bird Youkai that he’d jumped in front of. That was the last thing he remembered at least. Yet… he didn’t feel like there was a hole in his stomach. Looking down, there was indeed no wound. Where the puncture should have been was smooth skin. Had the bird Youkai not been near him, he would have believed that all the events of last night were just just one big dream. He did have a strange one though, Doro and the furry Youkai were in it. It was like they had met for the first time, beginning their friendship. Making friends… maybe Doro had given him a memory? He just wished he could remember more of it. Maybe if Doro didn’t give it to him as a dream… But it was fine, he seemed to be healed, plus the bird Youkai and Oku were unharmed. Everything worked out for the best. Oh he saved Doro and the bird’s lives too. That’s a plus.

He sat up, looking around. They were outside of the forest, and some berries were laid out in front of them. At least they were near town. He touched Oku to shake her awake, but she disappeared into him once more. Looked like he needed another energy drink. He then tried to wake the bird, who practically jumped up.
“Hey are you ok?”
“The salamander saved you!”
“Yeah the mortal wound I took is gone, you aren’t hurt are you?”
After this the bird started groveling in front of him.
“Wait hey.”
“You saved my life. If I had been the one to take the spider’s wrath I would be dead right now.”
“Wrat-”
“You will now be my master.”
“Wait wha-”
“I shall serve you to the best of my ability, though I will say that my powers are almost depleted. Whenever I use my dove power, I lose a fourth of my mask. With only one charge left, I have practically become powerless. Practically human. However, I will still serve you any way you see fit.”
“Wait I don’t need a servant… shouldn’t you be trying to find a way to get your mask back?”
“I don’t think there is a way.”
“You can’t get it back?”
“I don’t think so at least…”
She’d almost used up all of her life force just to save him, he wouldn’t just turn her away.
“Fine you can come just…”
“Really! Oh my name is Hato by the way, it means dove. Use my name whenever you want!”
Suddenly she seemed to switch from a medieval knight to a playful high school girl. It was strange to say the least.
“Well. Let’s go back. Hato.”
“Where?”
“My… dorm…”
Once he realized how difficult it was has two people in his dorm he imagined all three of them. Not to mention the five minutes total that his roommate would be there. This was going to be difficult.
Once they got back to the dorm Lawrence drank an energy drink to let Oku materialize once again. As soon as she did she looked pretty angry. She didn’t even notice Hato.
“What the hell are you helping all these Youkai for!”
“Wh-”
“If you’re going to endanger yourself like that then you shouldn’t be going around helping whoever seems like they need it!”
“I saved Doro though, and I’m ok now.”
“You got run through by that spider and you think you’re just fine? Yeah I saw that, how careless you were just because that dove was in trouble. You don’t think Youkai killing Youkai is a daily occurrence? You can’t save them all idiot.”
“It shouldn’t be a daily occurrence.”
“It sucks, but there’s no changing it.”
“Then I’ll at least save as many as I can.”
“You’re a stubborn little…. Oh. Hello. WHAT THE HELL?!”
“Hello roommate!”
Oku finally noticed Hato, sitting on the only other available chair in the dorm. She looked very peaceful. Oku pulled him aside.
“I’ve got another question for you. Although you probably may already know what it is. This…”
“Dorm.”
“Yes, this dorm, is quite small. Very small in fact. With three I would call this unacceptable in most circumstances. But that isn’t even the whole story. The other bed is occupied, some nights, by your roommate. I almost never went to the other side of the room. So how did you decide having her here would work out? I’m very interested in your logic on this matter.”
“I barely had a choice! She saved my life by getting rid of the spider.”
“After you saved her life by taking the spider’s enormous leg through your gut.”
“Right, but that didn’t kill me. If she had been hit we would have just both been killed.”
“I don’t exactly see how that affects you bringing her here.”
“She says since I saved her she’s honor bound to serve me or something…”
“Ugh… I hope you’re moving out soon. We need a place that’s at least a little larger.”
“Once Winter hits maybe.”
“Oh. Well. We’ll be gone by then.”
“Yep.”
“Then you won’t be able to see her anyways.”
“Nope.”
“Or me. Unless I’m disguised as a human.”
“Yeah.”
“Fine, She can stay here as long as she understands who runs this place.”
“Sounds good to me.”
“Hey what are you guys talking about over there?”
