We prepare ourselves to leave and armor up. Tony prepares a troop of drones.
“Tony, please only bring a scanner drone, a shield drone and three laser drones. They will get in the way and destroyed in the dungeon.” Nelim says as she sees the group gathered.
“What! Seriously!” He shouts surprised.
“The dungeon is far different from the Imp dungeon you all were in. The fish can hide themselves from sensors because of their size and the bubble of water around them. It would be sending our units to the slaughter house to bring more than just a few.” she says then adds to it. "We are also going to catch live fish so we don't need a combat unite."
At this the drones seem to slump lower floating away leaving a single scanner and shield drone and three laser drones.
It makes me wonder how we conceded so easily which kind of makes me worried because of his personality.
I was worried but with most of our preparations done we leave the ship with the five drones and head to the city.
There was a huge commotion at the gate with many angry people leaving the city because there wouldn’t be work now. We had to wait some time before we could approach the gate and get through the process of getting the drones inside. I left Queror since he probably wouldn’t be much help since we were only gathering monsters instead of killing swarms of strong beasts.
We head to the adventurer’s guild and I could see Nelim was really worried but Mirella just pat her head.
“Don’t worry about that stupid lizard. We are coming for something different remember.” She said which makes Nelim calm down greatly.
From there we entered the building. As soon as Nelim entered the place gots quiet as many of them stop to look.
“GET BACK TO DOING WHATEVER YOU WERE AND STOP STARING!” Mirella shouted.
Seeing her shout at them many of them just turned around and went back to talking but kept their eyes on us.
Seeing they were turning back the nerve wrecked Naiad was blushing brightly so to make her walk I put one arm behind her and nudged her in.
She smiles a bit feeling us protecting her and so we were able to enter and head to the counter we talked with the attendant from the first day we were here.
“Well you girls sure seem to have gotten along nicely.” The mermaid said with a smile.
“Yeah...these three are good friends.” Nelim said.
“Three?” the attendant asked.
I pointed to the robot's behind us.
“The one controlling those.” I said.
She looks at the robot's and seems to understand that there was someone behind the robot's so she just nodded.
“Okay, so what can I help you girls with?” She asked.
“We want to go collect bullet fish.” Nelim said in a quiet voice.
“Oh, well then there should be a surplus of storage units in the back. You can use them as you please as long as you return them. Still who will you sell them to?” the mermaid asked.
“We were going to sell them like normal but since we can’t do that now, we will use them to improve our ship since it has a core.” I say which makes the woman nod.
“Well from experience the bullet fish only give 2 mp each fish but since you will catch in the hundreds it wouldn’t matter much.” The mermaid said and then called someone to lead us to the storage units.
The storage units were completely spherical with a transparent material which seems harder than steel but really light. There were two openings, one on top which was completely open which is where the fish will enter. It has a barrier so it will let in 200 fish exactly before its closes.
On the other side is a barrier that allows water to flow out but it blocks the fish from exiting.
“Hmm, with me I think we can gather around five units easy but let’s take three more since we want to have you train Leah.” Nelim said.
With the storage ring I got from Tony we gather eight units and thank the assistant for his help.
As we walk out we a ruckus and surprisingly found the damned lizard doing the same thing he did with Nelim but now he was insulting another junior. This one was a serin male he was sprawled on the ground his eyes misty already almost knocked out.
“Pathetic, to think he tried to direct me and tell me what to do.” The damned lizard said sneering.
As he turned he spotted Nelim it his frown grew even worse as he marched over.
“SO THE WEED RETURNS HUH!!! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING IN MY…”
BOOM!
Suddenly a torrent of water grabs a hold of him and freezes.
“Your what? This guild doesn’t belong to and never will. You are just a two bit cook now return to your kitchen, Krominax!” the mermaid receptionist said as she glared at him.
“Y-yo-u b-bi-tch! Re-re-lease m-me Gl-gloria!” He shouted as best he could.
“Boys, take him away and let him cool down a bit, get the young cook to a healer as well.” The mermaid receptionist said.
“Hey Nelim, I didn’t ask but what position is she and what is her name?” Mirella asked.
“Her full name is Gloria Bishop and she is the head manager of this branch but there is still more higher ups like the guildmaster above her but she is the manager of the lower employees like the cooks and receptionists and so on.” Nelim said in a small voice.
“Nelim sweety, you can go without worrying about that stupid lizard.” Gloria said.
Nelim nods but suddenly pulls out a small seed and walks over to a pot on the reception desk and plants the seed and starts to use magic on it. Rapidly the seed begins growing until its a full red plant that blossoms instantly. She gathers three the seeds quickly and hands the plant over.
“This is red weed, it should make a good quality potion, you can give it to the cook that got hurt so he can heal quickly.” She says and bows before she comes over to us. “Shall we go.” She said with a blushing face and a small smile on her face.
We both nod and I pat her head which makes her blush more before we leave.
I notice the other adventurers were looking at Nelim with warm gazes, even the most intimidating men looked at her like a father looks at his daughter when she did something good. Seems she is well known in town and is well cared for by them.
We head to the dungeon right after we left. Along the way I got a serious shock.
“WHAT!! I can’t use my wand!?” I shout as we walk.
“Of course not. They can cast spells but they in no shape or form help you with manipulating the elements.” Nelim explains as she points her finger forward and a ball of water begins forming from droplets in the air.
It then began to spin and elongate forming a water arrow, then it froze becoming an ice arrow before rapidly melting and turning to speed.
“Manipulating should be a basic thing to understand. How do you expect to make a water shield with a rapid moving current in it when a normally cast water shield is just stagnate water.”
I was starting to frown hearing that.
“Is there a problem?” Mirella asked.
“Um well…” I didn’t know how to say it really.
“Pff! Captain bitch can’t even do magic properly as a mage.” Tony suddenly said insulting me.
I really wish he was a person and not a core cause I wanted to punch him so hard .
“SHUT UP!!”
“This seems sensitive but let’s just try our best ok.” Nelim said trying to calm us down.
You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.
We arrive at the dungeon’s tower and in the awkward atmosphere entered. On the last stop we saw the floor covered in water but a wave of Nelim’s hand it cleared out for us.
“This is a good place to train in environments like this and train water magic. Though most of the creatures have resistance to water and ice it is still a good place for training.” She says.
“Well why not show us how the way to catch the fish is done?” Mirella said.
Nelim nods then closes her eyes a moment fore opening them slowly as her right hand slowly lifts up.
Slowly several dozen spinning vortex begin lifting around us and start to form a barrier around us before dipping down at the peak of the shield.
“This is what it looks like. Though I still need to put the ball below and then make an exit current for the water below.” Nelim says and fabricates a bubble of still water and makes the current continue below returning to the dungeon.
“So it’s like this.” Mirella said checking everything. “Want to give it a shot Leah?”
“Eh? Me?” I asked surprised.
“Of course you, you're a mage so you need to know how to do this!” Mirella said pumped
I could feel a cold sweat form on my brows. “Um…”
“Just do it capt. bitch!” Tony shouted annoyed.
“AHH FINE!!” I shouted.
Nelim dropped what she did and just kept the water from reaching our feet.
I breath in deep and put away the wand in my hand and try to focus. I take several deep breaths and when I spread my magic power into the water to control I try to just grab a bit of the water near me but instantly I take control of the entire room and a lot further into the corridors.
I try to retract the control but it becomes too small. After several minutes I could limit it to half the room but my forehead was sweating a lot already.
Then I open my eyes and slowly lift my hand thinking of a small vortex around us but suddenly several several huge water tornados form sucking up a huge amount of water from the dungeon to rise up to the ceiling and begin drilling up. I push it down but it makes the vortex into a kind of drill that begins burrowing into the ground. Finally I simply removed all control and let the water stop on its own.
I was trembling while holding my own hand. My crew were staring at me shocked.
“Leah…” Nelim said but noticed how scared I was of my own power.
“T-this is why I didn’t w-want to manipulate magic…” I said in a trembling voice. “I can’t control it.” I said in a small voice.
With what I said the looked up and saw how I dug several huge holes into the dungeon’s ceiling that were closing up already.
Moments later we heard footsteps behind us and several people appeared from up stairs.
“What happened here! We just felt a huge vibration as if something just exploded!” The leading man said.
“We are sorry sir, our friend was practicing how to catch bullet fish but she lost control.” Nelim said bowing in a perfect 90 degree angle.
“Lost control! Someone that graduated the academy shouldn’t lose control!” The man shouted and looked up and paled as he saw the holes that were closing up.
“Damn! Kosak must be pissed having to repair these damages…” He complained and let out a sigh.
“Your friend doesn’t look well so you should head upstairs until she calms down.” The man said and my two crew said and hugged me from each said and guided me up.
Upstairs I borrowed a seat and Nelim went and got me a cup of water.
“So what happened?” Mirella asked.
…
I didn’t know how to reply and just sat there looking at the floor.
“Come up captain, this is just like this morning! You speak or you won’t get into the ship today!” Tony said.
I looked up at him emotionless and looked back at the ground.
“My...affinity puts...too much power...when I manipulate.” I said in a very quiet voice.
“Affinity…” Nelim said in a quiet voice and looked at my hair.
“Oh right...you're a tri affinity person.” She muttered.
I nod to her.
“I was tested like everyone...Fire affinity 100%, Water Affinity 100%, Mystic Affinity 100%. My curse is that it makes my magic too powerful to control. To keep the range of my control as small as it was made me mentally exhausted just now. I can barely control 1% of my power which is why I can’t manipulate my magic.” I explained.
The two were stunned hearing what I said.
“Exactly how much power above normal does your magic have?” Nelim asked a bit fearful for the answer.
“Make a water ball…” I tell her.
She nods and points her finger and makes a 2 centemeter wide ball.
“This is basic and uses 5 mp.” She says.
I nod and point my right finger and put my chin on my left hand which was on my leg.
Suddenly a mass of water that formed a ball as large as a 5 kilo cannon ball formed in front of my finger.
“About this much difference.” I said indifferently.
The two looked at the size with their mouths slacked.
“No wonder...there was...such a power difference…” Nelim said muttering.
“You need to go into a heavy training to control this or else it will bite us bad later on when we need to fight at full size!” Mirella said.
“I think it’s a good thing we are in this town, we can train water magic here for a while. Since we can survive off Tony’s mana made food we don’t really need to worry about money which we use to buy equipment.” Nelim said excited at the strange challenge.
“Don’t bother...i tried training it and it ended in disaster.” I asked.
“Wait...a thought came to mind…” Tony said.
We looked at him since he paused a moment.
“What?” Mirella asked.
“Well, if Leah doesn’t have control of her magic then that means its been like that since birth right?” He asked.
I nod confirming.
“Then...is this the reason why your family hates magic.” He asked bluntly.
I frowned and let my head drop to hide the tears in my eyes.
“Seems so…” Nelim muttered quietly.
“When I was born and was cleaned my magic ran wild and caused the water in the tub and in the air to being condensing and flooding. After that fire burst from my body burning the hands of the doctor's that was holding me and finally everything began to fly around because of my mystic magic.
When I finally exhausted my mana everything calmed down but everyone was injured including my parents. While I was a baby I had a magic restraint ring to make sure it didn’t go out of control and I was treated as you already know and my parents feared magic after that point. Though they already hated magic before it was at that point that their disgust evolved with the fear.” I said.
“Let’s return to the ship for now and rest up. Today doesn’t seem to be a good day.” Mirella said.
“Nelim return to storage units to the guild while I take Leah to the ship.” Mirella said and took the Storage ring off my hand and gave it to her.
“Okay I will be over soon.” She says and runs off.
“Come on.” Mirella says.
I comply and get up sulking as we walk back to the ship where after a bit Nelim appeared and made some tea that helped me relax until I fell asleep even though it’s still morning.
“Why is my life so hard…” I mutter just as I fall into the blackness of my subconscious.
